The second one, hands down, simply because I can put my level 4 stat bonus in the 15 to give me the +3 for my best stat.

I'll pick the first option.

Justification:

- I like a character that has one or two really good areas of ability.

- I like a character that has one decided area in which they are substantially below average (or at least low...many of my characters have an 8 or 9 in one thing or another).

- I dislike a character that is just kind of really above average at a bunch of stuff, no real weakness. Classic student athlete...I dunno, I just never picture that as illustrating the complex character concepts that I usually am looking to model. Not that it's impossible, it's just less intuitive for me. Ironic, because I myself am irritatingly well-rounded.

I'd say #1. Since you've got seven scores, I can drop the lowest (8), and come out with a more focused attribute spread.

I like the second one better.

Depends on the character. A MAD one I might be forced to pick the second.

The second oO
Why do you ask? I feel like there must be something to it

Considering that most of my characters literally only care about their three highest stats? First one. I would also prefer a hypothetical third set where there were even a single 18 and all the rest were 8. Two HP at level one with a wizard may sound painful, but lets be honest with ourselves. What wizard player doesn't expect to die immediately getting successfully hit at low level anyway?

No real preference. Considering you rolled one extra (Unless you're going with some hidden seventh stat), they're both really the same "Kind of above average, decent at most everything" sort of guys. The former might take the edge for the power aspect of having one starting at 16. But neither is really compelling to me. Like Ryu I'd favor a hypothetical 18, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8. Or even worse and have something like 18, 10, 10, 8, 6, 4, as they fire up my own creativity a bit more, and depending on class like Spellcaster or Not, would still probably end up being a lot more powerful in the long run.
