Vile Plague Lord

GAME RULE INFORMATION
Vile Plague Lords have the following game statistics.
Abilities: Constitution is the primary score for this class. Strength and Dexterity are also useful.
Alignment: Any Evil
Hit Die: D6
Starting Age: As Cleric
Starting Gold: As Cleric

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Vile Plague Lord

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies:
All Simple and Martial Weapons, and Great Crossbow. All Light, Medium and Heavy armor (including Mountain Plate, Battle Plate, Interlocking Plate and Interlocking Scale), Tower shields and all Extreme shields.

Spellcasting
Spontaneous Divine, CON based casting.

Vile Plague Lord's know all of the following spells as soon as they are able to cast them:

Immunity
A Vile Plague Lord is a terrible creation, whose internal anatomy is butchered, with vital organs kept isolated and healthy while venom and sludge pool and collect within every other part of their body, a racing immune system keeping their flesh just strong enough to keep them alive. A Vile Plague Lord is immune to magical and non-magical poison and disease. A plague lord is also immune to being sickened from any source.

Rebuke Diseased
Rebuke those suffering from certain diseases. Works the same as Reuke Undead.

Cancerous Companion
As Cancer Mage

Toxin
The body of a Vile Plague Lord is a terrible creation, for it leaks virulent acids from every pore, and is covered in sores that run with the most toxic poisons know to exist. At 3rd level, a Vile Plague Lord selects an ability score, and his body begins producing a contact poison that deals both primary and secondary damage to the selected ability score as shown on Table: The Vile Plague Lord.
This poison offers a Fortitude save with a DC equal to (10+1/2 HD+CON) to negate it's effects. This poison leaks out of every pore of the Vile Plague Lord's body, running across his armor and over his weapons, making them all the more deadly. Any of the Vile Plague Lord's natural weapons, his unarmed strike, and any weapon that he has held for at least one round, delivers this poison. If a creature is in a grapple with the Vile Plague Lord, then it must save against the poison at the beginning of the Vile Plague Lord, every round.
This poison however, is very short lived and cannot exist long after it has been made, making it so that the Vile Plague Lord cannot bottle this poison for the use of others, and making it so that only the first attack made during any given round can deliver this poison.

Unnatural Body
Fortitifcation levels, 25%, 50%, 75% at each stage.

Viral Ally
As Cancer Mage

Augmented Toxin
Eventually, the venom that flows through the Vile Plague Lord's veins putrifies to the point that it can turn a creature into rot in multiple ways. A Vile Plague Lord selects an ability score other than the ability score he selected at first level for his Toxin ability. Now, whenever a creature fails a save against the poison the Vile Plague Lord's body produces, it suffers damage (as shown on Table: The Vile Plague Lord) to both this ability score and the ability score the Vile Plague Lord selected at first level. Each time the Vile Plague Lord gains this ability an additional ability score is selected. This additional ability score damage applies to only the primary damage of this poison, not its secondary damage.

Plague Leadership
Gain Plague Leadership as a bonus feat.

The Vile Plague Lord adds his Strength bonus to the total Swarm HD pool to determine how many swarms follow his command.

Plague Leadership
Requires: Dedication to R'ta'nakk'k, Character level 6+
Benefit: Gain Followers and a Cohort based on Plague Lord Score.
Plague Lord Score is your HD+CON Bonus.
Feats that improve Leadership Score may be selected to improve Plague Lord Score instead.
Feats that improve your number of followers may be selected to improve Plague Leadership instead.
A character may take leadership or any similar feat in addition to Plague Leadership.

Gain a Cohort of the maximum level indicated on the table below, but no higher level than Your character level-2.

Gain a pool of swarms under your control with total combined HD equal to your HD pool as indicated on the table below. No individual Swarm can have a number of HD greater the indicated Max Follower HD.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies:

Toxin, and Augmented Toxin
The Vile Plague Lord's focus has shifted from altering his own body to that of others. The Vile Plague Lord loses the Toxin and Augmented Toxin abilities.

Cancerous Familiar
The Cancerous Companion is replaced by a Cancerous Familiar. The Cancerous Familiar gains the plague bonus listed under Cancerous Companion but otherwise functions as a Sorcerer/Wizard's Familiar.

Plague Chronicle
The Vile Plague Lord no longer spontaneously casts spells. Instead he memorises spells from a spellbook just like a Wizard.
At first level he selected 3 0th level spells and 1 1st level spell per point of Constitution bonus he possesses. These spells must be chosen from the spells available to Vile Plague Lord (see base class).
At each level he may add 1 more spell from any spell level he is able to cast from the Vile Plague Lord spell list.
A Vile Plague Lord may learn any Divine or Corrupt spell just as a Wizard by paying the appropriate scribing cost.

Spell Knowledge
The Vile Plague Lord may select any Sorcerer/Wizard spell of a level he can cast, and add that as a Divine spell into his spellbook. He may now memorise that spell as a Divine spell as per normal.

Weakened Toxin
Toxin deals only 1 damage to the selected ability score, increasing to 1D3 at level 8, 1D4 at level 13, and 1D6 at level 18.

No companion
V'K'kraan'ck keep slaves, not pets. They gain no Companion or Improved Companion.

Spell Progression
Due to the initial martial focus V'K'kraan'ck Vile Plague Lord's are slightly slower to gain spell-casting powers than a normal Vile Plague Lord (see table above).

Racial Class
The first two levels of Vile Plague Lord replace the 2 Racial Hit Dice for V'K'kraan'ck.

Martial Study
Gain Martial Study as a bonus feat.
A V'K'kraan'ck Vile Plague Lord may select only from Iron Heart, Diamond Mind and Stone Dragon only.

Martial Stance
Gain Martial Stance as a bonus feat.
A V'K'kraan'ck Vile Plague Lord may select only from Iron Heart, Diamond Mind and Stone Dragon only.

You give them 9th level spells in the spelllist, but none are granted in the table. Unless he's got to be epic to get full spellcasting, you should probably address this.

He gets 0 9th spells at level 20. So he can still cast if he has a high enough CON to get bonus spells.
It is meant to be a weak spellcasting class due to his extra class features. Though I might improve it by an extra level.. tossing that idea about in my head.

EDIT: Improved it, though not the progression looks fast at the top end compared to the lower end of the spells.

Looking at the new spell-list, I'm really liking where it's going. However, for the first three spell levels, I have a few suggestions:

1st--Angry Ache, Bane, Demonflesh, Fengut, Grease, Sacrificial Skill, Stupor, Suspend Disease

2nd--Augury, Blindness/Deafness, Control Undead, Death Knell, Delay Poison, Desecrate, Hold Person, Power Word Sicken, Sadism, Shrivelling, Touch of Madness, Wave of Grief, Wither Limb

3rd--Absorb Mind, Eyes of the Zombie, Nauseating Breath, Seething Eyebane, Red Fester, Rotting Curse of Urfestra, Stinking Cloud, Touch of Juiblex

Otherwise it looking good. Putrid Toughness seems a little over the top for a CON based caster, perhaps make it a Natural Armor bonus with a slower progression? Also, he could probably drop the good Reflex saves, since I can't imagine the big fat mofo moving very quickly. In addition, since he has Contagion and Poison as class features, they don't need to appear on the spells list.

You know, you could give him a "Dictionary of Plagues", or equivalent, to act as a limited spellbook, so his list could be a bit bigger, but his selections still limited...

Interested to see what happens. Con based casting is going to be awkward for beings without a con score. I'd suggest a feat that allows undead to base it off of charisma.

Not meant to be a class for undead or constructs. However it would suit some undead... so perhaps an undead only feat could work.

Fair enough. I never even considered leaning new spells, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. In any case, I'm really loving how this is shaping up. I'll start writing out my character tomorrow, and adjust things as you move forward.

Might allow some ACFs to swap the spell list for slight variations on the theme if you like. But take a look up at the Vasharan racial substitution levels. :smallwink:

I removed that ability entirely to simplify the class in the end. But the capstone will provide NA bonus.

Ability score damage. It is a contact poison that you exude once per round. Grappling you would be a big mistake for anyone. :smallcool:

But now I'm torn, should I go for the Animate Plague Zombies and Toxin abilities, or extent his repertoire of spells with the Vasharan levels...hmm. Decisions.

Since I don't know how leadership systems exactly work, if my character has a Plague Leadership score of 12, does that mean I have a 7th level companion?
