A crazy idea: sig-switching week, Dec 1-7

I had a wacky idea a few days ago that various of us Playgrounders could agree to swap signatures for a week. Anybody who wants to be swapped would post their signature code within a block beforehand, and someone (probably me) would randomly distribute the various signatures among those who signed up, though if you had some particular swap in mind I'd not override that.

Does this sound like a terrible idea, a potentially workable idea, or an awesome idea?

Current idea is to swap not only signatures but also avatars. Since I can gather avatar URLs from HTML source, the only thing needed to sign up is the signature code.

Copy/paste from the Edit Signature box to the middle of the noparse tags. Not strictly essential, since the code can be derived from quoting the post, but handy.

I believe the past similar instance of this was Mistaken Identity Week (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49943), wherein people specifically swapped over their signatures and avatars, and then watched the confusion. Fun times.
(Pretty sure it happened more than once, because the thread I linked above is from before I joined, but I'm sure I remember being around when a few people had swapped their stuff over)

And while I started writing this post, I convinced myself from "maybe" to "probably" to "count me in" (I hesitated for a moment because I updated my signature quite often in the last days, but not updating for a week or so wouldn't be that big of a deal anyway).

At least if you only want to do signature swapping.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that last events like that were really full swaps - everything that could be changed.

They were pretty awesome. I think we stopped doing them because theme Weeks became more prominent and the older theme weeks stopped being done because people wanted more new ones.

My idea was less to confuse people and more to make us all take a closer look at sigs again. :smallwink:

If more people are interested in swapping avatars, too, I have no problem in not participating.

If the interest is mixed and TuggyNE is willing to manage it we could also just make both.

Edit: time frame seems reasonable, but maybe you should distribute the sigs a bit earlier so everyone can post it the full week (if you start delievering at the first day it might take a while until all are changed)

It was for a forum friend who wanted an avatar in that style. My favourite of the official ones is, "Alot more dangerous . . . baby less dangerous." Never fails to crack me up when I read it in a goofy monster voice.

It does indeed (the end of the 7th, no less), although the confusion wrought by ending early (or late) is certainly no small thing as well.
