The arcane devotee is a 5 level prestige class from the FRCS that has the following ability at first level:

Enlarge Spell: The arcane devotee may cast a spell as if it were under the effects of the Enlarge Spell feat. He does not need to prepare this spell in advance, and it does not increase the casting time or use a higher spell slot. This ability can be used a number of times per day equal to 1 + The arcane devotee's Charisma bonus (minimum of once per day).It explicitly says that you need not prepare the spell you want to Enlarge, meaning that you can cast from a slot you leave unfilled, so long as Enlarge Spell can be applied to it. Really good for a wizard who wants to spontaneously cast Cha mod + 1 times per day.

Chalk another one up for Forgotten Realms' balance in 3rd Edition!

Oh Forgotten Realms. How did you manage to be worse than WotC regularly is at balance?

It was mentioned that way for the instance where a sorcerer becomes a arcane devotee...or did we forget they exist? Otherwise if you can make a spontaneous casting wizard, then that's how it works.

Well, at least Wizards have a reason not to dump Charisma any more.

Also, now we can make Wizards even more spontaneous than they were before. Throw in:

Uncanny Forethought feat (Leave up to spell slots open. Cast any spell you know from those slots as a Full-Round action at -2 CL, or any spell you have Spell Mastery for as a Standard action at normal CL. Requires [I]Spell Mastery, which in turn requires Wizard level 1)
Spontaneous Divination ACF (spontaneously cast all Divination spells, replaces 5th level Wizard bonus feat)
Alacritous Cogitation feat (Leave at least one slot open, spontaneously cast out of 1/day as a Full-Round action). Optional, not all that great anyway.
Nexus Method feat (Spontaneously cast Summon Monster)
Arcane Devotee 1 PrC (Spontaneously cast any spells 1+Cha mod times per day. Requires Enlarge spell, 4th level arcane spells, skill ranks)

So that comes out to a total of [2 + Int + Cha] spontaneous castings per day, [1+Cha] of which are auto-enlarged (in case you feel the need to over-compensate for something), plus casting Summon Monster (which is already an insanely versatile spell) and all known divination spells spontaneously. To take full, cheesy advantage of this spontaneity, take a level in Geometer and at least one Blessed Book so you can scribe spells insanely cheaply. If you start at mid levels, you can have all the spells you care about known and at your fingertips without preparation. For 6 feats (5 plus the one traded out for spontaneous divination), you basically become Schrodinger's Wizard.

Side Note: I find it amusing that Enlarge Spell can be applied to any spell, even though it doesn't have an effect on spells whose range isn't short, medium, or long. So that feat works for every spell.

On 3.5 (Player's Guide to Faerun) this ability's text is slightly different:

At 1st level, the arcane devotee may apply the effects of the Enlarge Spell feat to any spell he casts. He does not need to prepare it as an enlarged spell in advance, and the use of this ability does not increase the casting time or use a higher-level spell slot. The arcane devotee may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + his Cha modifier (minimum once per day).

Is there a way to make a Spontaneous Wizard normally? I know there is a thing called a Domain Wizard but is there any way too?
