So if your trying to build an army of say rangers...can you use a military "school" to help train them up to a certain level?

I remember reading something about a war college that once you graduate your level 3 or something but I cant seem to find it any more.

Anyone have opinions or linkage?

I am thinking of raising some elite units of rangers...advanced to like level 5ish.

How would you go about recruiting or training locals for that role? I mean, living in a wilderness city there have to be people who are capable, just need the training and gear.

I was thinking of making a military academy to take the common citizen, with the right pre-reqs, and training them for 2 yrs or something and come out a certain level ranger.

Same with mages / scouts / assassins maybe?

Otherwise, how else do you get qualified/skilled people for your armies?

I think most of the time "xp while training" is a dm perogative (sp) sorta thing...

Ultimately as a player tho, in a game where you wanted to raise an army of rangers to, say 5th level to start....

I would set up an "army base" ... have target practices, physical training, spell school, animal handling, basically anything you expect a ranger to do in the field, train for it. Throw in some "real world field trips" into the local forest, I think it would be hard to deny them leveling up to a degree.

I definitely agree with the idea of "field trials"...clear the hills of the raiding orc tribe scenario. And since we are so close to the Spine of the World anyways...I am sure we can find targets.

But does anyone have any info on training = xp scenarios by chance? I could have sworn I saw some...some where. :/

Anyone have some suggestions on recruiting then perhaps?

Say I need a specialist, a lv 5 ranger for a mission. I go to Waterdeep and...

Any resources you guys can think of that might help me flesh out some details here?
