View Full Version : Question about spell levels

So I've been searching all over to find what the (D) means next to some spells' duration means.

I know that (C) is caster level. (S) is double the caster level (?) What is (D)?

Are there any other (X) that I should be aware of.

Also, where can I find the stats of the wizard's summonings?

And a final question. The Conjurer Specialist, gets one lvl1 spell slot and 1 extra conj spell know per level?

The (D) means that the spell in question can be dismissed by the caster.

Specifically, that the spell can be dismissed as a standard action by speaking a modified version of the verbal components (or, if the spell had no verbal components, by gesturing).

I'm not sure whether this means that if something prevents you speaking, you cannot dismiss a spell that was cast with verbal components.

Also note that the standard action for dismissing a spell does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

(D) Dismissible
If the Duration line ends with "(D)," you can dismiss the spell at will. You must be within range of the spell’s effect and must speak words of dismissal, which are usually a modified form of the spell’s verbal component. If the spell has no verbal component, you can dismiss the effect with a gesture. Dismissing a spell is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

A spell that depends on concentration is dismissible by its very nature, and dismissing it does not take an action, since all you have to do to end the spell is to stop concentrating on your turn.

Edit: The information regarding other (X) elements of a spell description can be found here. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/spellDescriptions.htm)

The stats for summoned monsters can be found in the Monster Manual or the monster (http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/monsters.htm) section of the SRD.

Information regarding specialist wizards can be found here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/sorcererWizard.htm#schoolSpecialization).

Edit II: The 3.5 D&D Q&A thread stickied in this sub-forum is an excellent resource for these type of questions.

(S) after Area means shapeable, which means you can set the areas affected in 10' cube increments, as long as all cubes are adjacent to at least one other cube.

I have no idea what (C) is but I strongly doubt it has anything to do with CL. Example?

Concentration? (aka it takes an action per turn or it ends)

Is there any chance someone could provide me with a list of evocation spells? Not all of them. An evoker guide lets say.

Something like this (http://community.wizards.com/forum/previous-editions-character-optimization/threads/1152046)?

That's what I'd think, but the SRD entries do not use that abbreviation for either of the two varieties of Concentration spells (detect magic-style "Concentration, up to X duration" or animal trance-style "Concentration").

No, not really this, cause this is of the BC aspect. I tried playing god but I didn't really like it, and I ended up disliking the whole thing and not wanting to play it. Pluss our party is lacking a glass cannon atm.:smalltongue:
