Hi everyone!

I'd like to start a new Skyrim character, but I haven't had any luck finding interesting characters..

My currently longest played character is a lv ~65 breton woman that uses light armor, sword & shield, and is also proficient in the use of bows (i tried crossbows but the slower shot speed bothered me as my character is all of a shift-blade)

So far I've tried a Khajiit brawler, an Orc berserker (heavy + 2handed), a dunmer dual-dagger assassin and a lv100 enchant free-destruction/restoration mage (I actually leveled my Breton warrior from here, so she also has lv100 destruction/restoration aside from the above-mentioned skills).. except for the mage, all the other characters bored my before lv 5 o 6..

Any interesting builds to try ?

I've been entertaining a couple ideas (my evil rogue's been boring me and I haven't jumped back into Skyrim in forever).

One interesting one that I found elsewhere was the idea of focusing on the Shouts. Talos blessing and Amulet, sword-and-board, using the shouts to dominate a given engagement. Would otherwise eschew magic unless that helps somehow.

Another interesting idea that I was thinking of was a "tower-shield" build. Heaviest shield you can find, light armor, and magic in the off-hand. Block is maxed ASAP.

I'm fond of hybrid characters: you can make a fine ranger, or spell-thief, or spell-sword, and it works out pretty well.

Getting high illusion (for silent spells, with perks) and conjuring means you can get some magic gear/rely on high stealth and summon minions to distract enemies while you sneak around for the backstab. I wouldn't rely too much on invisibility spells or potions, though, since sneezing at anything you can interact with dispels it immediately. Or once you get a high enough pickpocket skill and invest perks, I think you can pickpocket all their stuff while they're fighting. It's been a few characters since I've tried it so I might be mistaken about that, though.

I got bored with my spell-sword witch because she just started steamrolling everything up to and sometimes including dragons, and none of the necromancy spells were able to affect the high level corpses lying around anymore. It was getting really hard to get new recruits after she hit level 50 and the whole character concept started to fall apart.

By the way there's a general Elder Scrolls/Skyrim thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298127) on page 3 of Gaming (Other) if you're interested and haven't found it yet. Helped me out several times.

If you're bored with it as it is, try delving deep into a role. I had great fun with a Nord hunter. Going into the cities only to sell the pelts and meat I had collected. I used random alternate start so I didn't have to go through the Helgen sequence. For the eighth time. But also so I started out in the world, so I didn't have to trigger the dragons until I felt that the rumors warranted me going into the events surrounding all of that.

It was almost an entirely different experience. I spent a lot of time on the plains between Whiterun and Rorikstead, and in the forests around Falkreath. It's very... soothing. I'm thinking I'll try it again with Frostfall.

I find that shout & shield idea interesting! I'll give it a try ASAP..

also, thanks for the link! I've trying to look for something like that.. I might have overlooked at that thread!

Thanks a lot!

Roleplaying can be pretty fun, even if it's just mildly. I have the most fun when I ignore fast travel. My longest played character who Im really beginning to miss was an arcane archer- had very high destruction and archery, enchanted the bows with various elements (fire and ice? I think) that were affected by the destruction perks. It was also pretty fun with the TK combat mod which added some special abilities, such as a teleport, or the one where you fire an arrow that puts an explosive rune where it hits.

I am quite fond of crushing stereotypes. My current character (which I need to get back to!) is one, I admit, a Breton Archer / Illusionist thief. But my first character was a female orc sneak thief / archer. I just loved the idea (like playing a half-orc bard or druid in D&D) and if i make a new character she will be a redguard mage...

Orcs are some of the best sneaks around. Berserker Rage doubles all damage, including the massive sneak attack bonus.

Of course then it isn't Berserker Rage (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnstoppableRage), but the the next stage in Rage: Tranquil Fury (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TranquilFury).:smalltongue: (Yes I linked to TVTropes)

To keep all that rage inside, and challenge just enough of it in just the right way...

My most recent build is actually quite fun. I am almost completely illusion with spells to cause people to kill each other and what not. Also I sneak around a bit.

Another extremely fun way to play is as someone who isn't dragonborn and knows nothing of fighting but tries to make a living anyway. Check this out.

Also, conjuration and archery synergize beautifully.

OH MY GOD I never thought of that!

I hadn't either, then saw that pointed out and it's like Christmas all over again. Of course for the humor value, I also cranked the body slider all the way up, because I normally play with it all the way down for stealth characters. Hilarious to see this giant orc sneaking around and then stabbing faces. Totally awesome.

Heres an idea: Create the stereotypical skyrim character. you know what im talking about. Iron helmet, leather armor, fur boots, iron sword, steel shield, etc.
make the dude from the cover.

I really like that idea. Do you roleplay with it, packing large amounts of food and mead with you?

I may just try that sometime..

As for unusual builds, I'm rather enjoying an alteration specialist, though I'm playing with a mod that adds a bunch of alteration spells that allow be to move people, enemies, or objects around(whether shoving them, pushing flying foes to the ground, or doing a Scorpion-style pull on light enemies[it admittedly, only keeps larger targets from moving very quickly.. though the suppose it would be pretty over powered if I could push and pull giants around:smallsmile:)

In regards to the hunter, Are there any mods that add a better use for food? I know it sounds weird, asking if there's a mod which makes you need to eat.. But it's just so useless in vanilla. For non-stew anyway.

Try some mods maybe. There is one to play a giant or some fox like race or a rabbit like race. Sorry I can't think of the names but should be easy enough to find. That is if you are playing on a computer.

Realistic Needs and Diseases is a big one. Or if you're insane, IMP's more complex needs.

For magic, I have yet to see anything that beats good old Midas Magic.

I roleplay by bringing mead along, but otherwise it's a live off the land type, so all the food I eat comes from my hunting. I suspect it'll be a little easier with SkyRe because you can kill deer in a single shot to start with.

Ok, some ideas:

- Do a Shield Bashing character, yes, your shield will be your main weapon and perhaps healing in the other hand.

- Let vampire curse happen to your character and reach 4th state so you will be unwelcome in every town, or simply try to deal with the curse.

- Do a Summoner/Necromancer.

My favorite was a Spellthief that focused on mind control, with a further role-playing element. He was a normal Thief who tried to be honorable in his ways. However, repeated encounters with Daedra meant that he slowly went insane until he was finally a full-blown cultist and total monster.

Play what you want.

I tend to either play very stereotypical or the opposite.
My favorite Skyrim character to date was a female Orc thief / mage for example.
