I really like the idea behind the gunslinger's "grit" point for performing daring deeds. Is there a D&D equivalent among the many classes and variants?

Yeah that's a great one, too. I was thinking more along the lines of a daredevil type, but I don't think there is one.

Action points is a variant system (or actually several of them). UA (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/actionPoints.htm) has a stronger version, ECS uses a bit more toned down one.

Extreme Explorer PrC is about being a daredevil, but it presumes and requires to ECS action points to be in play.

Thank you so much for that information Greenish! Since I have UA handy, I'll look into that, and I think our DM has ECS. Worth asking about it.
