Animated Inanimate Object Contest

That's right! You will be drawing avatars (in the OotS style) of inanimate objects that have become animated!

And, of course, there is going to be a First through Third place of the following:

Best Avatar
Best Group (>1 Being = Group)

There can be only one…Best Overall award.

And, of course, the Roland’s Choice Award will go to the avatarist's creation that most appeals to my, admittedly absurd, sensibilities.

Every entry must include a bolded introduction as to what category you are trying to enter in.

A comedian [Yakov Smirnoff, thank you Roland] from the Cold War era used to make those jokes. He originally lived in Soviet Russia. He would say things like,

"In America, you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, party finds YOU."

They were puns on the oppressiveness of the Soviet regime. Then somebody had the idea to apply them to something else. The rest is history.

When I was much, much younger, I read this children's book where an ordinary boy was sent to the stars by a crazy old professor where he met a bunch of flying space hats who were melted by water. As I recall, they were trying to take over the universe by making infinite chocolate, which sounds like something that would appear in a thread on the d20 boards.

I think the contest is really more about drawing objects that are, by design, inanimate and animate them. Robots, Voltron, and such are, by design, animated, so I don't think they really qualify.

An animated toaster? That would seem to count.

I'm not happy with how I did the rabbits legs, but I couldn't get them to look right drawing them in a semi-realistic fashion (ie, using the cover of Watership Down as a model). The gray came out kind of funny as well.

It happens because of two things. First, Best Overall is not limited to just those that won their category. Second, Best Overall tends to split the voters, thus spreading them more thinly and allowing (as it did here) someone to sneak into the top spot. So an avatar that two of the judges think is best in the its category and best overall may lose that fight in best in category (where everyone is focused on that category) but then win it in Best Overall, where the votes are spread out among the judges' preferences in other categories.

Someone could probably create a far more detailed scenario, graphic, or mathematical formula to represent this. But I think you get my drift.
