Item Famliar vs. UMD

Short line of questions, but I can't seem to find an answer on my own:

Can UMD be used to activate someone else's Item Familiar? How dificult would this be? Can it be done with an Item whose owner is dead (not undead but Dead-dead)?

My guess would be no as UMD doesn't have an option for emulating a particular person. The rules do cover inheriting an item familiar from a dead character though: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/itemFamiliars.htm
