Does anyone here know of any good wizard ACFs that take the place of a familiar? I already know of immediate magic and eidenic spellcaster, but I'm not entirely sure whether I want to take the latter, and I believe generalists can't take the former

Depending on your style, you could give it away for a good ol' Animal Companion (Unearthed Arcana).

But, you should keep your familiar, you know, make it a Hummingbird (Dragon #323) and have that good ol' +4 to initiative~

Hmm, I didn't remember the hummingbird. Thanks!

For mroe information, the character is a gish-type with 6 levels in wizard, so I don't think animal companions would be a good choice

UA Necromancers can swap for an Undead Minion. It's basically just a Human Warrior Skeleton that upgrades over time, but once you can cast Awaken Undead he can have feats, which suddenly gives you an extra proper Warrior. From there you can Haunt Shift him into a Huge suit of Mechanicus Gear and have a pretty fun tank.

Don't you have to be a specialist for that though? The character is an (elven) generalist

Any more suggestions on what to do with my familiar as a gish? I don't particularly want a hummingbird, it being from dragon mag, and if there's no useful jobs it can fulfill, I might as well go without one

With various ACFs or substitution levels, you can gain aquatic-, drakken-, frostfell-, or wasteland- familiar.

You could also trade the familiar for an animal companion or trade it for the Wizard of Sun and Moon ACF, that lets you prepare 2 spells in 1 slot, one of which is usable outdoors and during a day and the other during a night or underground.

I believe those are all ACFs a non-specialist Wizard can take for a Familiar.

Immediate magic is a great one, depending on which school you can make every caster targetting you take damage and make a concentration check or blink out of the way.

Generalists don't qualify.

Wizard of Sun and Moon (Dungeonscape) is pretty awesome.

The elven sub level lets you double the bonus from a familiar I dont know that I would trade it away so quickly. Also I think dragon mag had a butterfly familiar that gave a bonus to spellcraft, that +6 is handy if you are going incantrix

Here is a post (http://community.wizards.com/forum/previous-editions-character-optimization/threads/1151316) on the wizards boards that has a list of ACFs. Might want to check it out.
