Which do you find is better and for what reasons?

Wizard. Less work to get standard competence without having to keep track of all the charges in existence with the same general maximum efficacy rate.

Artificer, access to ALL SPELLS at lvl 15.
keep staffs, wands and scrolls of lvl 9 Sorcerer/Wizard spells, Cleric spells, Druid spells and what other lists there are with all the go-go gadget you have on you whilst you shrugg off anything the Wizard throws at you with a ring of anti-magic field, which you turn off when that pale skinny bastard has expended most of his spells.

Depends.

If there's little downtime for the artificer to craft then the wizard wins, hands down.

At absolute maximum optimization the artificer has broader access to all the game-winning abilities at no cost to his class build.

Through the rest of the spectrum it's pretty tough to call. Honestly though, excepting druid the big six are all pretty even overall.

Orbs of force. Any spellcaster worth their salt knows wizards care not for antimagic fields.

At low level they both suck too badly to kill eachother and the Artificer will already be scribing lvl 2 spells, downtime is granted by sleep and general leveling.

If it's a question of superiority... that'd depend on the scenario. Based on preference, though, it depends on my mood. Artificers are to Wizards what Wizards are to Sorcerers in terms of spell preparation and mandatory bookkeeping. Wizards are easier to pick up and just run with, that's for sure.
