"If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win a hundred battles without jeopardy" ~ Sun Tsu

Modified Class: Inquisitor

I've decided to port a favorite class of the previous generation, reimagined as an inquisitor archetype. In the wake of the release of the Advanced Class Guide, mixed classes are ll the rage, so I guess this could have been an Inquisitor/Bard hybrid, if you will, which is something that should have definitely been included there.

I'd like an opinion on the mechanic. I'm not really happy with the simple "check"/fail thing, so any ideas are welcome. Comments on balance would aslo be appreciated.
Inquisitors hunt their enemies with fierce determination, relying on cunning and physical might to bring them to justice. Yet, there are some who realize that knowing is half the battle, and sharing this knowledge with their allies is the key to victory.

KNOWLEDGE DEVOTION (Su): archivists might only chose the Knowledge domain (or one of its subdomains) as their domain.

LORE (Su): at 1st level, an archivist adds half his class level (minimum 1) to all trained Knowledge skill checks.

This ability replaces Stern gaze and Track.

DARK KNOWLEDGE (Su): At 1st level, an archivist who has identified a creature with a Knowledge check appropriate to its type can use this ability to share strategies for defeating it with allies in combat.

Using this ability is a standard action. At 7th level, an archivist can use this ability as a move action instead of a standard action. At 13th level, an archivist can use this ability as a swift action. An archivist can use this ability once per day. At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, the archivist can use this ability one additional time per day.

Once activated, this ability lasts until the combat ends, at which point all of the bonuses immediately end. The archivist must participate in the combat to gain these bonuses. If she is frightened, panicked, paralyzed, stunned, unconscious, or otherwise prevented from participating in the combat, the ability does not end, but the bonuses do not resume until she can participate in the combat again.

When the archivist uses this ability, she must select one type of dark knowledge to share with all allies within 30ft who can see or hear her. As a swift action, she can change this bonus to another type.

Bonus available are the same as those of the judgment ability, except that they grant an insight bonus instead of a sacred or profane bonus, regardless of alignment. These bonuses only apply to a single type of creature at a time. The archivist can change the type of creature affected by making a new knowledge check as a swift action.

At 8th level, whenever an archivist uses her dark knowledge ability, she selects two different bonuses, instead of one. This only consumes one use of her dark knowledge ability. As a swift action, she can change one of these bonuses to another type. At 16th level, whenever an archivist uses her dark knowledge ability, she selects three different bonuses, instead of just two.

This ability replaces judgment, second judgment and third judgment.

SPIRIT SENSE (Sp): At 2nd level, a menhir savant can detect the presence of undead; fey; outsiders; and astral, ethereal, or incorporeal creatures. This ability functions like detect undead, and the archivist detects all of these creatures rather than trying to detect one kind.

This ability replaces detect alignment and discern lies.

GROUP TACTICS (Su): at 3rd level, as a standard action, the archivist can grant a teamwork feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear him. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 3 rounds plus 1 round for every two levels the archivist possesses. Allies do not need to meet the prerequisites of these bonus feats. The archivist can use this ability once per day at 3rd level, plus one additional time per day at 7th level and for every 4 levels thereafter.

This ability replaces solo tactics.

ANATHEMA (Su): at 20th level, as a swift action an archivist can direct a powerful litany against a single foe he recognized (using a knowledge check) in order to daze him for one round. A Will saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 archivist's level + archivist's Wisdom modifier) negates the effect. Once this ability has been used, wether or not it was successful, it cannot be used again for 1d4 rounds.

This ability replaces true judgment.

PEARL OF WISDOM (Ex): at 17th level, if an archivist beats the knowledge check to recognize a monster by 5 or more, he can select one type of bonus from his dark knowledge ability. She is treated as if she were 5 levels higher for the purposes of determining the bonus granted by this. Unlike other types of dark knowledge, the one enhanced by this ability cannot be changed for the remainder of the encounter.

This ability replaces Slayer.

KNOWLEDGE DEPENDENCY (Ex): an archivist power comes from his deep understanding of his opponents. Whenever he uses his bane, greater bane, stalwart and exploit weakness abilities, he must identify the creature using an appropriate knowledge check. This is not an action, and it is made as an integral part of the ability in question.
