You are gathered for a friend's funeral. Professor Petros Lorrimor had passed. A light rain falls as the cleric reads the last rites for him. Many people have gathered to mourn the passing of this man. You may remember how you knew him and what you did with him. Now as you watch them lower the coffin into the grave, you see a young woman you may or may not remember. She introduces herself as Kendra Lorrimor and asks you to follow her. As you do so, you are taken to a carriage. She beckons you to enter but the choice is up to you.

Myrra glances at the others Kendra had called out to. She was certain she had seen the monk and the one-eyed man before, if only in passing, but she wasn't sure she had seen the smallest one before.

Myrra knew she had never spoken to any of them. She really didn't spend much time talking to others, it was bad enough that her great height already invited scrutiny. Although Petros had always been kind to her, even knowing her heritage, but her battered history didn't let her so openly trust the friends of friends.

Well maybe they will focus on the child, the half-orc thinks to herself as she ducks down and steps into the carriage. Why is that kid here anyhow?

Hana fidgets slightly under her black robe, eyes cautiously surveying the other mourners. While she knew it was only proper to mourn the Professor's loss, standing here in the open did not sit right with her, particularly with so many people so close.

Nevertheless she remained there, watching and waiting silently; hoping to go back to the inn where she could mourn in her own fashion.

Noman

Noman was standing just behind the main circle of friends. Wearing his best of his travel weary clothes, his eyes folded in front of him, he gazes at the ceremony impassively. A nice, solemn ceremony of the kind, though with some strange guests. It took a well trained eye, but the beauty standing there was a half-orc and the child on the other was a halfling. And Noman 's eye was nothing if not trained.

Noman sights and look at the sky.

"It seemed to me a kind, gentle man. Of course you would take him. Don't want to spoil this plane with too many good people, hah?

Strange that I was asked here, though. I only met him for a few days, back then when got into trouble with them kobolds. Did he still remember it? Obviously."

He gets ready to leave, back to his inn, when Kendra Lorrimor (a daughter? A wife? A niece?) summons him. Noman half walks, half limps to the carriage in his very distinctive gait.

Millie sheds a few tears as the professor and his coffin are lowered into the grave. Professor Petros Lorrimor was the first man to give her a safe place to stay where she wouldn't be required to wait on him hand and foot. At least, the first who was aware of what he was doing. Even though it was only for two weeks, it helped to strengthen her faith in the belief that, eventually, she and her cat Rita would find a good home.

Suddenly, Millie hears a meow to her left. She looks over at Rita, who in turn is staring at a young woman beside a carriage. As the woman beckons them over, the cat meows again before turning to face her owner. Millie senses that Rita wants the two of them to approach the young woman.

"Well, you've never been wrong before," Millie says as a small smile forms on her lips. The two of them run to the carriage and Millie climbs in. As she does, she notices a rather large woman already in the carriage. A moment later, Rita leaps in after her owner.

Kendra gives you all a sad smile. "It's good to see all of you, and I wish the circumstances were better. Some of you remember me, others might not. It may have been some time. Father was getting older, but his death was still a shock. Anyways, why you're coming with me is that you all touched him in some way. He has provided you all something in his will. The barrister will be reading it when we reach home. One other is supposed to meet us there. I believe that person was at the funeral but is not here now." The carriage continues towards the home, allowing you relief from the rain that had started falling as you came to the carriage.

Noman

Noman enters the carriage and stretches his mangled feet. He indeed did not remember the lady, because he had never seen her.

The news of something in the will cause him to raise an eyebrow. True generosity is rare, and even fake generosity was in short supply these days. Noman stifles a cynic comment and waits to see how this would play out.

Millie sits down in the carriage opposite the pink-haired woman in the corner. She finds herself feeling a little wary of the larger, black-haired woman for a moment, but before the feeling can linger or grow, Rita climbs up onto Millie's lap, and then curls up and starts purring.

Well, Millie thinks, if you're fine with the situation, then so am I.

As the coach is going down the road, there is a noise outside. It is a cry of pain. Something is happening. You can't quite make out what it is inside the carriage, but you get the feeling something is quite wrong. The coach is suddenly moving faster and erratically. There is a thud outside the coach. Kendra seems anxious. "What's happening here?" she inquires. She looks towards you to see who might be willing to investigate.

Brumbar stood in the rear of the group attending the funeral. Death, though infrequent among the dwarves, was still a terrible burden to bear as it meant one less person to carry on the struggles of life. Though it had been some time since he and the Professor had last enjoyed a good sit down with hot tea (hopefully the Professor was the only one who knew how much he enjoyed that brew) and a conversation of the world, he always carried that memory with him. Few lay people understood nature the way the Professor understood and his passing was a great loss.

Once the funeral concluded, Brumbar saw Kendra waving to everyone to join her. Still upset at the passing of his friend, Brumbar decided to follow along with the coach on foot. The walk in the rain would help clear his mind.

The sudden shakiness of the carriage knocks Rita out of Millie's lap and she meows uneasily as she hits the coach's floor. Seeing how two of the other passengers are looking out the sides of the coach, Millie decides to follow suit. Perhaps she might see a hint about what caused the carriage's strange behaviour and the peculiar noises, although the source or sources of the noises could be coming from either side.

After thinking for a moment, Millie tells Rita to look out the same side the black-robed woman is looking out, while the brown-clad halfling decides to inspect the side the man with the limp is looking out.

Millie takes a look around but can barely see for the rain. Suddenly, she hears a meow from the other side of the coach. "Did you see something Rita?" Millie asks as she turns to where her cat is. She gets the feeling that Rita is alarmed by something but cannot quite make out what. Just in case it means trouble, Millie reaches into her backpack and pulls out a flask of acid and a rose-coloured crystalline stone. She brings the latter item to her forehead and then releases it, causing it to start orbiting her head.

He is musing over how it didn't seem so long ago that the old Professor had taught him that books were valuable to everyone, be they traveler or be they a peasant or be they king. Suddenly Morkren is ripped from his day dreaming as he sees the sight of figures hazed in rain, standing over forms streaked in pink. What madness was this then?

"Alright then lads..what this here then?"

As Morkren says this he loosens his axe and hopes his shield can be at the ready. He looks for an escape route, knowing he couldn't possibly stand against this group if they were concerted evil.

Well despite everything, it's now a fairly quite ride back to the residence. Kendra sighs in relief. "I don't know what happened but right now I'd like to forget it. Please come with me for the reading of the will." She opens the door for everyone to enter.

Active Spells: Endure Elements

Further down the road, on Professor Loromir's porch, a young woman sat in a halfing sized rocking chair in a snug red dress with a low neck. A medallion of Saranrae, forged of precious metals, hung over her heart, the tip tickling her cleavage. Her sheathed scimitar sat over her knees, and a frame back pack with a number of straps rested between her and the door. Though her dress was fairly dry—unlike the cloak thrown over the back of the chair—her fiery tresses were muted to russet by the rain. A few droplets still mingled with the tears on high cheekbones.

A few years back, as a novice cleric, she's been assigned from a lager, nearby city to assist the local parish priest. She had become good friends with the professor and his daughter at the time and spent many evenings on this porch drinking in his seemingly limitless supply of lore.

She'd not been able to bring herself to watch him lowered into the ground. After whispering a small prayer of her own, she'd al but fled here by a footpath. Now she waited, growing more concerned by the minute, for Kendra and the others the barrister said she was bringing.
