View Full Version : Reaper (Mass Effect) as a Elder Evil/creature?

I was thinking of an interesting Elder Evil to implement in a game, and it was Harbinger from the Mass Effect series. I was wondering if anybody would know where to start or how to create one (as EE doesn't give details on -how-), I was thinking something similar to a Beholder (the multiple beam attacks), though I am not sure if that would work. I was thinking that it would be CR 21 or so. Any suggestions / assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS: I was also thinking of lesser Reapers, or a Harbinger aspect, but since that is similar to a 'normal' creature, I believe I am capable of creating that -- most likely will be CR 13 or so.

Hmm I do have a Colossal+ 33HD flying Kraken who manifests psionic powers as a 22nd level psion.... he's going to me a few CR more then 21 though.

If you're open to Pathfinder, an interesting starting point might be combining Great Old Ones with Robots. "Robot" is a construct subtype that keeps their intelligence intact - perfect for an AI - and Great Old Ones gain Lovecraftian aura abilities that affect everyone who is near them, allowing you to simulate Indoctrination. From there, add powerful armor/shields (high armor and deflection AC), Oculi swarm summons, Thanix cannons (mythic ray/line attacks work here) and a couple of other mythic feats/abilities and you're good to go.

EDIT to add links:

1) Great Old One (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/rules-for-monsters/creature-types#subtype-great-old-one) is an aberration subtype introduced in Bestiary 4. It was intended as a way to represent Lovecraftian entities in Pathfinder, including notables such as Cthulhu. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/aberrations/great-old-ones/great-old-one-cthulhu) The main takeaways are that such entities are impossible to kill (though they can be defeated/driven off) and that looking directly at them, being within a certain radius of them, or making mental contact forces will saves to stay sane. You can also work in the Sanity rules from the d20SRd instead of using a pass-fail save system for this, with failures meaning indoctrination. A good way to model the subtlety and gradualness of indoctrination is by looking at the Mind Seed (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/psionic-powers/m/mind-seed) psionic power.

2) Robots (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/rules-for-monsters/creature-types#subtype-robot) are a construct subtype introduced in Inner Sea Bestiary. The main benefit to this subtype is that it creates intelligent constructs; simply ramp up their intelligence and you have AI. In addition, high-CR robots in Pathfinder have Reaper-like defenses, such as force fields, jets, and laser cannons. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/constructs/robot/robot-annhiliator)

An easy way to combine the two is to borrow the "Constructed (Ex)" special quality that beings such as Inevitables (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/inevitable) have. It allows non-construct entities to gain some construct-only traits, and count as both types. You can use this to create a Great Old One aberration with "Constructed" and represent the Reapers' fusion of machine and flesh, qualifying them to be both Robots and GOOs.

A lot of this will be manual of course, but creating monsters generally is.
