I want a thread about how you beat other players in a battle of wits, IE outsmarting them. This is the story of my book.

So some time ago, my char found a rare homebrew book. I rolled a 20, then an 18, with a +9 to search in the Library of the Capital City. I found a book that's basically a magic item compendium. It allows me to look up any magic item i want, and allows me to identify any item i find, whether or not its evil, cursed, or an artifact, its properties, how to activate it, a list of previous owners, and a list of those owners' magical items.

Needless to say, i love this thing and i try not to abuse it. I'm a chaotic good mystic theurge of Kord/transmuter specialist.

There is another player in the party who shows up semi-frequently and is a jerk. He plays a gnome wizard and he is a metagamer, to the point where i knew i couldn't even let him know i had this thing OOC. So, i kept it a secret as i do not trust this gnome. Anyways, i come up with a plan to implement as soon as i can involving Leomund's Secret Chest and Casting Gloves.

So, our characters level up on their birthdays. We recently came into a huge sum of money from a difficult battle so i set my plan in action. I get the chest constructed and he's all like "why are you bothering with that spell" and im like w/e. I get my casting gloves and put my book in the chest. The other player isnt paying much attention because he had a birthday, and earlier that session it was leaked that i had this item. So, he levels his wizard getting arcane sight and permanency, casts them and says, I look at <my name>. I respond, 'ok, but you dont see much, just my equipped items.' He says 'what about your stupid book and all your evil artifacts (my character has a growing collection of evil artifacts he wishes to rid the world of)'.

I'm like, 'you don't know this, but i put them all in my secret chest and put the replica in one of my casting gloves. You still don't know i have them.

Felt good.

What are your stories of victory over other players that arent killing them?
