Essentially the ultimate (but still easily beat) D&D challenge.

How can you make a level 1 commoner who is stronger and more capable than even epic level characters and force dragons? Have fun :P

Chicken Infested and a spell component pouch.

Pun-Pun.

Basically, the only way to do it is going to be to exploit an infinite loop of some sort, and most of those are already known, especially the ones accessible to a commoner 1. Which makes this kind of a boring question.

I'm fairly sure you need 1 or 2 more levels to get Pun-Pun on a commoner. Chicken infested kind of defeats the purpose. I think this is more of a classless optimization thing. Maybe the standards should be lowered, as force dragons and epic characters seem literally impossible.

In that case just make the challenge to make a 1st level commoner as powerful as possible.

White ethergaunt commoner 1 is better than a Fighter 5000TM. [edit] Assuming equal WBL, anyway.

Powerful in what way?

Basically capable to when most combat encounters while still being useful in a roleplay sense.

No, but dice re-rolls are allowed :P

Nope, it's just slightly less reliable than on a paladin. All you need to Pun-Pun is to be able to hit a DC25 knowledge check. A level 1 character can be built to do that.

How about a guy like this?

Sir Jorlon the Quaint
Middle-Aged Human Commoner 1
Stats: Str 10, Dex 10, Con 10, Int 12, Wis 12, Cha 12
Feats: Precocious Apprentice (Heroics) [1st], Magical Training (Arcane Mark, Mending & Prestidigitation) [Human], Apprentice (Craftsman) [Flaw] and Master of Poisons [Flaw]
Skills: Appraise +5 (4 ranks +1 int), Craft (Alchemy) +7 (4 ranks +1 int +2 apprentice bonus), Craft (Poisons) +7 (4 ranks +1 int +2 apprentice bonus), Craft (Weaponmaking) +5 (2 ranks +1 int +2 apprentice bonus), Knowledge (Architecture & Engineering) +5 (4 ranks +1 int), Profession (Squire) +2 (1 rank +1 wis), and Use Rope +1 (1 rank +0 dex).

This is Sir Jorlon the Quaint, he is a humble little man who for some reason has been picked up by the talons of adventure and not let go yet. As Sir Jorlon has a BaB of +0, one simple weapon proficiency (light crossbow) and no armor/shield proficiencies he is a very soft, squishy target in any battle. Which is why he primarily stays out of battle. If he has to support his allies he does it in a hidden spot 70ft. away from the prone position where he launches poisoned bolts at foes.

But Sir Jorlon the Quaint is not a squire to noble and courageous adventures because he takes cheap shots away from the thick of battle! Sir Jorlon is primarily tasked with making alchemical/poisoned products for his comrades, cleaning their equipment/spicing up their rations with a casting of Prestidigitation, repairing minor damages to their equipment via Mending, judging their plundered loot, applying his knowledge to the entry of buildings, aqueducts, bridges, fortifications as well as once a day bestowing one of them with a Fighter bonus feat for 10 minutes.

Sir Jorlon contributes to his adventuring party in a very logistical manner, assisting them in very small ways that make their lives easier. He does not join them into the tombs of ancient mummy lords or through the caves of goblin hordes. He stays back at the inn, watches their equipment, produces alchemical/poisonous goods and manages their accounts of possible.
