Weapons for a large creature. Just look up their statblock to assure yourself:

Technically, that's a completely different creature that just happens to look very similar.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to Tauric's rules (IIRC, the template is in Savage Species), so I'm not sure what the actual size would be.

It doesn't matter unless the base creature is a medium horse:

Size: Same as base creature.

IIRC you have to mate a small top with a medium bottom, or a medium top with a large bottom. Other people might read this differently though.

So Tauric Halfling/Riding Dog for Medium, say.

The top has to be small or medium, and the bottom has to be medium or large, but there's nothing stopping you from combining a small top with a large bottom.

This is correct.

or medium top with a medium bottom (Vanara top Blink dog bottom)

It just seems werid, that, now you've got a larger bottom, so you can hold a bigger sword....

It's a result of those in charge just glossing over details. It happens.

Well that seems to be the logic for the Amazon in Dragon's Crown anyway.

Well it depends upon how you parse this sentence, but you are probably correct.

The template can be added to any Small or Medium-size corporeal humanoid (referred to hereafter as the base humanoid) and any Medium-size or Large corporeal animal, beast, or vermin with at least four legs (referred to hereafter as the base creature).
