From east, west, north or south you came. Sent to find why no word has come.

All of the coast relies upon this place for it's coal, it's metals and gems.

The Iron Hall has fallen silent. As all of you gather outside from your various places of origin you hear a faint and ominous hollow sound from the wind winding through the tunnels below.

Lexin
2013-12-14, 07:48 AM
Liam leans on the wall, just by the entrance to the tunnels and quietly watches his surroundings. After a longer moment of complete silence he decides to say something though...

"Quite a crowd, I see. I am Liam Saiman, if you came here to see what's wrong with this place, our goals are the same. We may as well join our forces... safety in numbers and all of that..."

Ragmund glances over and down at the short man. He nods and utters, "Ragmund Spirit-Sword."

He glances over at the entrance to the tunnel and then to the rest of the group, looking to familiarize their shapes so he knows what not to cut.

He then closes his eyes and focuses himself, readying his edge to deal with whatever maybe lurking inside.

He psionically focuses himself and readies his psychic strike ability. The latter is for later.

Coming from the northern direction, the large pale skin male walks slowly but cautiously into the area. A polearm blade rests comfortably over his shoulder. When he finally spots another living creature, his face loosens a tad.

With a few quick strides he approaches Ragmund and Liam, no sign of fear in his step. He gives a nod at Liam's introduction. "Wise words spoken. Thrag Bearkiller" He says with a bow of introduction.

Listening to the howl of the wind, his bald head perks up to look around once more. "Do you hear the wind spirit's warning? Danger lurks nearby."

"There’s always danger lurking nearby. Its part of the lifestyle beings like us lead. "

A smallish woman follows the quite voice as she steps from behind the massive goliath warrior. The woman, is clad in chainmail and covered in a deep cloak and hood. She bears a sheathed long sword, a shield and a backpack with a bedroll strapped laterally across the top.
Next to her is a massive hound, clearly pure-bred and proud of it. The cinnamon colored dog sits on it’s haunches and quietly awaits commands from his mistress.

"Vayle Nightdancer, " she says as she extends a gloved hand in a surprisingly womanly fashion.

From above, Kobayashi Haruka drops down on wings of black wavering shadows, red hair falling down her back. She is dressed in a long red and orange coat with detached sleeves. A light silvery shield floats by her side and the outlines of a fine suit of armor is visible beneath her clothing.

She stretches and grins at the group, taking Vayle's hand and shaking it with a gloved hand of her own. "Kobayashi Haruka."

"Ah, you all glow so brightly. It's nice to see that my companions are at least competent." She chuckles, smiling. "Well then... shall we head into the tunnels?"

"I wonder what could have happened here, to draw this much attention from such a diverse group."

As the speaker leaves the shadow of a nearby outcropping, she is revealed to be a woman of average height and solid build, clad in a long travelling cloak. A spear-like weapon with a curved blade is sheathed at her back.

"My name is Imoru Tsuro, and my purpose is also to determine what has happened here. If we are indeed committed to the same cause, it seems only prudent that we join together. We know nothing of what awaits, however; additionally, we know nothing of each other. Perhaps we should change that before we charge into the dark together."

During the past few minutes Imoru will have subtly scanned each person with both Detect Evil and Detect Chaos, and will be wary of anyone who registers.

Laughing Dog
2013-12-15, 11:39 PM
Ragmund opens his eyes and looks at Imoru. "Sensible. I came here after hearing that no word was coming from this place. I do not know what could do such a thing, but I doubt it is a good being. I am a sword of one of the Uthgardt tribes, and have made my way since leaving the tribe as a hunter. Such, I can track... whatever it was that we are to look for if you wish."

He then looks at the rest of the group expectantly, waiting for a reply.

As the group enters the Dwarven Tunnels you notice a distinctive lack of the sounds of smelting, or mining, or forging as you would expect. Instead carts are being trundled back and forth filled with what looks like rubble, newly fashioned building materials, and tired dwarves sit around on break or get up to continue working.

"I'll tell you what I've told the other messengers requesting information. We found a cavern, and the ceiling of the passage to it fell. Straight down. Killed those doing the digging. We're working on removing the blockage, and smelting what ore we have at the moment into supports to try to hold the rest of it up so we can try to determine what exactly happened. We won't be sending anything out for a several days yet, so you're wasting your time and mine, by coming back over and over with different people. Shops, peddlers merchants and municipal buildings line the path to both sides. At your feet is a set of rails for the carts when they are working.

As you step into the light coming from the makeshift passage you are greeted by the sifht of a colossal chamber set, and bedecked with runes, sigils, symbols and patterns and shapes all worked in some strange green material, and giving off colors you cannot identify or describe that altogether is blindingly bright.

In the center of ths complex scheme sits a mountain of a man. Positioned as though restrained, his face tilts up to look at you. His skin is leathery in appearance, as can commonly be found upon those that work the fields of a farm. His face has the wrinkles of age, yet his body appears strong and healthy as that of a man in his prime. Even his hair bears the signs of age, in it's deeply lustrous silver colouration.

Based upon alignment: if will save below 23.

You feel a calm come over you, as well as a slightly stronger sense of self confidence. You find yourself standing somewhat straighter.

You experience a sense of motion held still, and pressure as though swimming beneath a shallow body of rushing water that does not move.

You find yourself backing slowly away as a strong feeling of hesitance and unease bears down on your soul.

To all:
The hum of straining magic fills the room as the man begins to stand. His muscles ripple and press outwards with effort, but his face shows no sign of strain. His voice is deep and resonant, it seems to echo through your very being and raises feelings of an ancient and forlorn nostalgia, "You ask many questions in your simple tongue. I am the last of Maan, and this is my prison." He begins stepping forwards, sending tremors through the floor due to his apparent weight, his long powerful strides quickly bring him closer, and the details of his appearance become clearer.

His skin is covered in tiny scars. Though taller than any human you have seen, his shoulders make him look more akin to a dwarf, if not for his features, and proportions. His advance finally stops several paces inside of the room, as his muscles tense with the effort. "I would not advise entering. Lest you become trapped as I." If not for his size he looks remarkably human. Though, seeing him as he approaches, you begin to comprehend the enormity of the prison.

Though barely large in size, his over-all appearance gives you the impression of looking at a statue carved from a mountain, with clouds crowning it's peak.

The term nostalgia describes a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.

"I make no demands, though the company and conversation is appreciated. Before you leave, I'm planning to restore the use of his mouth. There's no reason to fear me, I merely cannot abide his condescending manner, and had done nothing to warrant his venom being directed at my person. I have therefor rectified that situation, and hope to have given him at least some small measure of... Hm. What is the word for it." He shrugs his shoulders. "Humility."

You notice the man appears to be gradually relaxing, as though whatever force holds him here is gradually weakening.

Or perhaps made him a mere head, had his limbs dissolve back into his body... closed his nose as well as his mouth... had his head settle down into his torso. Perhaps repositioned his mouth so he would breath eat and defecate from the same orifice. What I did was end his verbal abuse."

She man gives you a flat stare, and speaks sternly. "I was imprisoned for slaughtering demons and devils to the point that their layers of hell dissolved. I will not tolerate you blatant lack of respect, nor your insinuations. And for you rather obvious display of willful ignorance perhaps I should take your sight. Be grateful that I do not."

He stares up at the stars, tilting his head back and opening his arms as though to embrace the heavens.

"My imprisonment was willing. Though it is good to once again be free, I rather wish my prison had remained unopened. My work has begun to become undone."

He shrugs helplessly.

"Now, one of a few things will occur. The planes will realign correctly, and become a semblance of their original balance... or the planes will shift too quickly and some of them may meld together, at least partially... which could be very bad. Or the planes will move back into proximity too quickly and collapse. Or they will move slowly... or... well... the last option is probably the worst, but those are only the possibilities I am hypothesizing. Something entirely different may happen, I've honestly no idea which is more likely. If I'd not been imprisoned in the first place well... things were very bad, and probably would have turned out worse."

You notice a large ribbon of vary-hued and multicolored stars stretching brightly across the night. Some of them look disturbingly close, though their somewhat bright light is quite pretty, along with the odd clouds of dark violets reds oranges and blues mixed in at odd intervals.

He takes a long look at his new surroundings, including off into the distance. He then pulls a long thin metal rod from one of the rings on his bandoleer, steps some distance from the opening and begins drawing a series of concentric circles and runes. Each one glows softly once completed.

Several of those in camp below have taken notice of your group's appearance. Some stare, some resume working, with straighter backs and more vigor. Some few back away, but are quickly swarmed upon by the others and struck down when noticed.

He glances at you with one raised eyebrow, shrugs and begins walking into the camp. When you get closer you notice many of them look like Fire Genasi, though perhaps with more of the elemental in them than mortal blood. Those reacting with fear within the vicinity of the group are sprung upon and subdued when not outright killed in a vicious manner.

Upon reaching the center of the camp the last of Maan stops and stares into the fire a few moments before clearing his throat as though to get someone's attention.

A woman steps out from the flames, and they shrink and sputter, taking on the normal hue of ordinary fire.

The woman before you looks more like a living flame wearing skin, than a woman on fire as most genasi of her kind. Her eyes are like pits into a furnace and the fires of them curl up her temples, joining the fire that issues forth from within her.

Her coloration is a deep and unnatural red flecked with sparks of gold, her skin is the color of aged ivory, and flawless. Her elaborate and ornate robes seem made of fire, and wisps of violet flame can be sen spiraling about her person, with small plumes skipping off into the night sky.

She is built in frame much as a normal and somewhat slender, if attractively shaped human.

Smoke curls up from where her foot touches the soil. She smiles and the light of fire can be seen shining through and between her teeth. She says something to him and they chuckle. Her voice is rich and smokey, with a hint of the roar of a gigantic fire behind it.

She glances at each of you in turn, eying your armor and weapons, and even your persons dismissively, as though you were ants, and she a very large boot.

"I assume that this tongue is the most common one, yes? Good." She glances at the Maan and steps towards the vampire of the group. "Silly to come here little one." She reaches out with a single finger to trace it along her cheek.

If allowed it burns painfully, but does no damage (Unless you're evil. Then it's bad. [roll0] fire damage with no resistance, half immunity.)

As I said, bad end of world thingies are happening all the time. Every plane is a mirror of every other. Had you the knowledge you could find the me of this one, or the you of my home plane. Every plane has its version of rocks, land water, air and fire. This plane merely resides betwixt them all. Thereby exhibiting the traits of all surrounding planes and their layers. For every plane there is a you, for every plane there is a me." She waves her hand in a vague gesture. "Something bad is always happening. And there you have it, if it is not one crisis it is another. I do not intend to 'merely sit and watch' this one. I sit and watch them all the time. As I said, there is always some grand mechanism threatening to destroy the planes."

She stretches her neck out.

Maan Speaks: "Planar portals exist, in many places, often randomly coming into existence or unraveling. Finding one is difficult. Predicting their appearance is more so. If you want to find demons, that's simple enough. Find a tiefling, and work on removing its infernal ancestry from it without killing it. They're about... 180 feet away and closing fast.

You see a rather familiar fire burning off towards the mountains, up upon a hill this time... and someone waving.

"Well... I am much more accustomed to duels than fighting whole armies... but who knows, it might be fun" says Liam as he prepares for the battle.

He moves to position 10 ft above the ground and manifests Share Pain power, linking himself and his psicrystal.

"Immortals" swears Ragmund.

He then pulls his true form back out into the world. He then waits a few seconds before charging the nearest enemy.

Mind blade's back out:smallsigh: Also, he's waiting until the first enemy to get within 140 ft before charging him/her. Just before the attack he will expend his psionic focus in order to use Greater Psionic weapon. Rolls and stats for the charge will be in OOC thread

The barbarians get within 60'. You can see each o them carrying an axe and a sword, with a shield on their backs. They are dressed in a variety of armors.

The front line throws their axes, and equip their shields.

Frowning at the massed orcs, Haruka drops down to about 10 feet above the ground, out of reach of the barbarians. She launches a bolt of sickly flickering violet energy into the back of their formation.

Move: Move down to N2, 10' off the ground, out of reach.

Standard: Eldritch blast the one in P1. Fort save DC 16 or be sickened for 1 minute.

((Not orcs, just barbarians.))

The barbarian is staggered, but standing.

And sickened! Yay!
