I've just started playing with a group after years of absence, and I always wanted to pilot a Binder but never really got the chance. Several members of the group are 4.0 people and are used to the whole 'defender' route, something I said a 3.5 Binder can pull off.

Normal Binder/KotSS build. I plan on using Savnok and Dahlver-nar (with Orthos/Otiax later); and I have access to an 'Improved Goad' feat which has a higher DC and forces Casters/Ranged types to target me.

I need to be setup to be prepared for Epic level play, which basically just eats my skills up. Race-wise I will probably be human, but I'm open to alternatives (Desert/Dream Dwarf? Hellbred of either type?)

Basic idea is Improved Goad and Move Ally to do most of the 'defending'; and I'm not really interested in a trip build (my stats wouldn't support it anyways); but I have 3 or so feats left to play with after the basic Binder suite.' Standstill might be an option, but I was hoping a community that had played in more recent years might have some more advice on how refine the idea?

EDITED WITH MORE DETAILS:
Rolled stats are: STR: 15, DEX: 14, Con: 15, Int: 12, Wis: 7, CHA: 16

Other Party Members:
Aasimar Wilder; planning on Thrallherd
Kobold Rogue; planning on Trapsmith/Combat Trapsmith
Warforged Druid; planning on Landforged Walker/Forestmaster (what a mess!)
Grey-Elf Wizard; planning on Master Specialist/Iot7FV; Counterspell focused
Human Cloistered Cleric/Warlock; planning on Eldritch Disciple/Paragnostic Apostle; Knowledge Devotion

Is that right now, or just the future development of the game? If not, what level are you at right now?

We are starting at level 1, but play is going to be 'episodic'... we do an adventure, time skip and gain a few levels while 'adventuring' as a group or on our own before reconvening to deal with the next big threat... so starting at level 1 but hurling into Epic much faster than normal play would bring us

Ok... didn't get a lot of feedback, but here is what I am tentatively going with:

Binder 6/KotSS 5 (Savnok)/Binder +14

Skills: A few here and there, skill tricks for intimidate, ultimately Maxing out Intimidate, Knowledge: The Planes, and Knowledge: History (for Epic preparation)

Feats:
Human: Improved Binding
Flaw 1: Standstill
Flaw 2: Combat Reflexes
Level 1: Improved Initiative
Level 3: Goad
Binder 4: Ignore Special Requirements
Level 6: Weapon Focus: Longspear
Level 7: Retrain Weapon Focus: Longspear -> Weapon Focus: Glaive
Level 9: Martial Study: Shield Block
Level 12: Martial Stance: Thicket of Blades
Level 15: **Improved Goad**
Binder 11: Sudden Ability Focus
Level 17: Retrain Improved Binding -> Imperious Command
Level 18: ???Ability Focus: Goad/Standstill/Shield Self; depending on which seems like it needs it???

**If there was no 'improved goad' homebrew feat, I would probably pick up Imperious Command sooner, and end the last few levels with Favored Vestige: Savnok and Rapid Recovery
---------------------------------------
First adventure went off ok, some political stuff then basic dungeon crawl, freeing an informant from some sewer-dwelling goblins instead of the local nobles having to pay ransom.

The party includes a *lot* of squishy characters (Kobold rogue, Wizard, Cloistered Cleric, Wilder), so I am glad I am going this route; though the last party member is a Warforged Druid who is very melee focused and is towing the front line with me very well.

Well there is the classic Hold the Line + Combat Reflexes, and since you want them to attack you you may as well hit back

I'd move Ignore Special Requirements up the list, personally.

Hold the Line is a good idea... I will try to squeeze it in there; though may not have the space for it until later. Is it more important than Thicket of Blades?

I feel like Ignore Special Requirements is a good pick for the Binder Bonus Feat; though I could swap it with Sudden Ability Focus and not be in too much trouble (none of the Vestiges I plan on taking day-to-day have any really restrictive stuff going on)

Well Hold the Line is when they charge you and Thicket of Blades is when they 5ft step away, so in conjunction they are great, its really a matter of taste as to which one goes first

What about Stand Still (from XPH or the other psi splat)? Your damage sets the DC for a reflex, fail and opponent loses movement.

Looks like the Feat slated for the 1st Flaw.

hmm. what about Robilars gambit?

and i do not understand

Level 6: Weapon Focus: Longspear
Level 7: Retrain Weapon Focus: Longspear -> Weapon Focus: Glaive

why are you doing this? if it lets you dodge some prereq, I think whatever prereq you dodged is afterwards missing and nulling whatever you needed the prereq for.

The prestige class I go into at 7 reqires any weapon focus; but also gives better weapon selection itself. It is a grey area in retraining rules, but one approved by the GM already for me.

Now that makes sense, Binders dont get martial weapon prof, but your PrC does, makes sense now
