pathfinder playing as Astral Deva

Ok so my NG character went out in a blaze of glory to take down a CR 20 enemy, Our party average level is between 12 and 13. We have access to resurrect spells but the DM has said if i wanted i can roll up another character instead that is level 12, including picking a monster race if i so choose. Is it worth rolling up an astral deva using the 15 level racial class for pathfinder (i guess mainly for fluff basically saying my character was transformed into an astral deva) i sacrificed myself to save a town that was under seige, and there was literally no other way to kill a CR 20 monster that was destroying the town so i blew us both up after we realized he was going to be able to hit over 180 Damage/ round vs our group of level 10 characters. I played the character as almost an exalted paladin type.

What should i roll up? Suggestions.

Personally, I'd rather go something along the lines of an Angelkin Aasimar Paladin or Cleric, for simplicity, convenience and ease's sake.

That said, if I was going to play a Good Outsider, I'd probably try tacking Paladin levels onto a legion Archon.

...Personally, I would love to play an Astral Deva. Even if all I get is 'monster manual as written' Astral Deva, being an actual warrior of heaven is a unique opportunity. It might not be particularly high op, but it's a chance you might not get again for a very long time.

Besides, everyone will know who to call on when it's time to put on the Christmas Play ;)

Any chance you can be a Planetar instead? Only 2 CR higher, but casts as a Cleric 16, so it'll be pretty easy for you to continue its progression by taking more cleric levels.

The party already consists of a LE cleric who has devil and demon domains, and a CN cleric with the Death and destruction domain. If i were to make an aasimar cleric/ paladin i would have problems with the party's alignment.


Alternatively, i can roll up a summoner class or something random just for "fun" although I'd go from the strongest on the group to maybe mid-lowest because of the level loss.

Our party does have access to resurrection spells i believe, but i kinda want to try something a little different, the DM was a little upset about my characters power level. And that's why he threw the CR 20 at a group of 3 level 10's in the first place.

Pfft darn, that was short lived, the dM just neutered the idea... " you can't come back as an angel, its too clíche" bleh....

I guess that's the end of the thread unless you guys have some other ideas? Btw my character's body was incinerated, the DM has said " there is no afterlife" so your soul goes nowhere. ( He has said that there are souls in the campaign.. but apparently nobody gets them when a creature dies... )

Could your soul come back inside something? An animal, a robot, a magical beast?

Yeeeeah, if your party members are evil, you've pretty much signed up for PVP as an astral deva or as a paladin or good cleric.

I've asked the DM about my character having the means to come back, he said i could try to become a ghost, but that's the best i could do. So using this knowledge, i may just make a ridiculously overpowered class as a new character out of spite instead of playing something balanced like i offered. Either that or a polymorph or summoning specialist. And either become what he said i couldn't play, or summon legions of them.

Spite him with playing a Summoner and fluffing your Eidolon as an Astral Deva.
