The rules of Random Banter
(Please follow these to ensure a safe and pleasant journey)

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Now let the banter commence! :3

Thank you everyone!

And since there's apparently a popular demand:
To start with the white side of the Yin and Yang. It's sort of intended to represent the calm, relaxed and/or enjoyable side of Random Banter, and starting at the top, going left to right, top to bottom we have:

TaiLiu - flying
LaZodiac - playing Nintendo (3)DS
Haluesen - DMing
Teddy and Flodhäst - playing and relaxing
CurlyKitGirl - reading
MoonCat - playing with a ball of yarn
Dimonite - flying
FinnLassie - drawing
Kneenibble - sitting in Finn's hair, watching her draw
Amidus Drexel - playing guitar
Thufir - acting
Elemental - shooting fireworks (Uhm, Ele, isn't that a bit dangerous?)
Cuthalion - sleeping (and dreaming)

The black side, in turn, is supposed to represent the hectic, stressful and/or unenjoyable side of Random Banter.

MoonCat - studying
Kneenibble - crashing
Amidus Drexel - studying
FinnLassie - studying while accosted by terrible moths
TheWombatOfDoom - flying with a ring in his mouth (no, I don't think getting married sounds unenjoyable, but still quite hectic ;3)
Teddy and Flodhäst - running á la Tintin (http://youtu.be/zb-9TIr31i0)
Mynxae - struggling to hand in forms
LaZodiac - shoveling
Taet - brewing tea (or at least trying to)

Now, I've missed a number of people here, partially due to lack of space, partially because I couldn't figure out how to draw you, and mostly because I didn't have time. It doesn't mean very much, you're all a part of Random Banter. :3

So, now that we're on the new thread, I can give a sister update! She shaved half her head so now she's a "punk" style person. Welp.

I wonder if she intends to stick with it, or if she'll just end up regretting it (or even worse, end up blaming someone else for ruining her hair once she grows tired of it)...

In other news, I need to get down to some intense Starcraft-ing. Gonna play in a tournament tonight, and from what I've seen most of the registered players are either a league higher than me, or they normally are even higher but have happened to rank a bit lower than usual this season. If you spot a Protoss named Biedrik getting beaten later on tonight on this stream (http://www.twitch.tv/scvrush1), then that would be me. This is gonna be tough. Time to practice.

Phew, I finally got enough time to catch up with what's was written in the old thread...

Well, always cooking under the open fire gets tiring... A little change doesn't hurt, mmh?

That's true! :3

I always imagined these walls to be quite tall, you see...

Hmm...
*looks up the tall, tall walls*

*crawls out from underneath a crockpot, several jugs of wine, a couple of bottles of apple juice, an old school Atari, and for some inexplicable reason a squirrel hat*

Well, that was a fun party. Kept noticing this one girl looking at me, hopefully they were good looks, since I was looking at her and our eyes kept meeting without either of us looking away or making a disgusted face. XD Everyone apparently loved my attempt at glogg, even the guy who couldn't stand it warm and ended up chilling it in a glass with ice, or at least they all pretty much said so. Granted, I think it was the most plentiful source of alcohol involved considering I brought 5 liters of wine and a crockpot to keep it warm in.

Forgot to actually grab the brandy I had wanted to use to give it some extra kick, so it tasted like it didn't have any alcohol in it, but it was still potent enough that I managed to get enough from just checking the temperature of the wine that I had a bit too much to drink by 10 and had to spend the next 4 hours sobering up. Thankfully I found out I'd had too much because I noticed myself wanting to make an inappropriately suggestive remark to the girl I mentioned earlier rather than by having actually make such a remark. Also by getting stuck in a fit of laughing where I ended up laughing so hard I sank to my knees and almost couldn't breathe due to being too busy laughing, but that happens sometimes even when I'm stone-cold-sober, it's just much easier to get me set off when I'm tipsy.

Glad to hear you had fun, Coid, and you made home-made glögg for your party too? That's awesome! And fun to hear it was widely appreciated as well! :3

I did. I turned 15 shortly after I joined this forum, graduated high school in 2010, and entered seminary the following fall.

Wait, you're a 92:er? Wow, I was way out there in my estimation of your age. Then again, my mental picture of you is of an sagely old man with his long beard full of wisdom, which even I knew was about as detached from reality as it gets.

Then again, I'm having a little trouble realising I'm grown up and actually knowledgeable, so there's that. I still haven't quite accepted the fact that I can't assume people to know better than me just because they're older, like you could throughout your entire childhood...

I know, but I should still be more considerate. In future, I shall endeavour to appropriately mark spoilers that contain pictures of syringes unless I forget to, at which point I apologise in advance.

Hehehe, don't bother just for my sake, I'm going to open them all up and shudder anyway, because that's how I work. :smallwink:

Now, if you want to be considerate to others at the same time, however, go ahead! :3

Yeah, Horse_eComics are a bit creepy to borderline lovecraftian at times...

Really? Usually I thought they'd just put a covering on a small wound. Though, I probably have a different idea of what constitutes a small wound.

Well, small for being a wound which needs suturing that is...

Huh... That means you're not even a full year older than I am... Assuming of course I've got my maths right and you were born in 1992. For some reason I had expected you to be older than I.

Huh, I always imagined you as being a year or two older than me, not slightly younger (or at most very slightly older)...

As I see it, rhe point is to go with friends, and if you're of legal age, get sloshed. Although personally, I don't see the appeal of getting sloshed at a concert. Especially if it's someone I really like, and I'm not the kind of guy to go to a concert for people that I only mildly enjoy.

I can never coordinate myself with those music friends.

Though I do realise that I'm going, five nights in a row, to see John Zorn's thing. Should be pretty good. Rumour is Mike Patton's going to make an appearance. Fingers crossed.

When I think of December the concert season I think about carols and classical music. These are much better. :smallwink:

I have to admire that kind of patience.

And it is good that we have a cave now but if anyone starts to compare it to Plato I am going to have to ask you to leave. :smallamused:

Patience is a virtue! Then again, so is chastity, and if everyone was completely chaste the human race would die off pretty quick. :smallamused:

Plato couldn't keep a cave together if we stuck shadows around the place and chained him to the wall. :smallamused: :smalltongue:

More like 200-300 pixels... :smallwink:

Well, it's still "over there", and it also ensures sufficient exclusion, for if anyone went within two metres of you, you'd have company in the corner... :smallwink::smalltongue:

I doubt the paper alone is enough to dry out the gypsum. Also, I think this brings us back to my original point, not that you would be unable to scorch the earth with your acetylene torch, but that it'd take time... :smallwink:

That's just what they want you to think. :smalltongue:

Sufficient space? Nonsense! My corner is not for claustrophobics. :smalltongue:

The sheetrock is extremely brittle in all the drywall I've worked with. I can break it easily with my hands, and it's constantly crumbling. Eating through it with an acetylene torch shouldn't be too hard, and if it's an issue, I can always punch through it. :smalltongue:

To be fair, due to the lack of space I did make Amidus install some shelves on the wall to put all the chillies on to... And I guess they get better natural light up there as well.

I never said snuggling! I just said the corner is snuggly! You know, tiny! :smallmad: *scribbles on white wall*

Yes! Bacon for all that reside in the corner! I didn't bring all these frying pans for nothing. Well, sometimes they are to discipline you if you haven't been good to my chillies and all that. Not to hit you, no, but to sway them veeery close to you.

*sits alone in corner with all the bacon*
It's so lonely... :smallfrown:
*noms bacon and cries*

ACK! I never allowed you to redecorate my redecoratings! I painted the other wall olive green and made you put the shelves in for the chillies and now you're just throwing slime everywhere?! AMIPOOP! :smallannoyed:

They also get all their needed water through the holes in the roof. It's quite an efficient system, I think.

LIES AND SLANDER, HOW DARE YOU MISLEAD ME SO. :smalltongue:

Mmmm.... bacon... sorry, I forgot everything else you said because bacon. :smallcool:

*returns to corner* I return, with chairs and blankets and room to sit! Come, let us dine on fried pigflesh!

One does not throw slime everywhere. It's a delicate process and must be carefully applied to the walls. :smalltongue:

Are you certain? These antique chandeliers I just installed are clearly hanging off something.

How can you be sure? If it's already affecting you, you may not be able to tell!

Perhaps they hanging from floating platforms? Or maybe we just have holes in the ceiling.

Eh, I'll never remember anyway, so why worry?

Something with polished hardwood floors I think... Maybe a few hand-woven rugs and an eclectic array of antique furniture.

The idea of gluing people back together like damaged figurines is probably more disturbing in my mind than a giant needle.

It's simple! We demolish the corner and put up a new corner for you directly adjacent to Amidus's new corner.

Hardwood is great, for sure, but I like tile a little better. Tile doesn't normally squeak when you walk on it, and it's refreshingly cold in the middle of winter.

Honestly, I think that'd be pretty cool. Certainly much better than how we do things now, anyway.

Or just scoot the corners next to each other. They're mutable things. :smallcool:

That's very odd then. Are you sure these performance majors aren't theater majors?

Well, it's under the music department, and they're listed as "Music Performance - Liberal Arts; Music Performance - Instrumental; Music Performance - Vocal", so I'd assume not. Of course, we might actually have a conservatory. I'll check.

It doesn't appear to be the case - searching through google or the school's website reveals nothing about us actually having one.

Aaah, okay. Sounds pretty hectic, I doubt I'd be able to go to a concert. So many people, so much noise :smalleek:

Eh, you get a smaller show, there's less people and stuff. Generally just as noisy, though, because you're closer to the speaker cabs.

The picture is fantastic. :smallcool:

I think I'd gotten most of those... heheheh. :smallamused: I find it interesting how by far the most common things on the white side are "playing", while the most common things on the black side are "studying".

A lot of people have overestimated my age around here. I don't know why. Maybe it's something in the way I write? I definitely don't talk in a super mature manner, but writing is different. As for my beard, it is not long, but I'd like to think it is full of wisdom.

Impressive! Exactly how long did it take you to make this?

That must have taken a while.

I started at just a pair of minutes after 13, and posted at 19:30, but some of that time went into uploading, writing and raging at my family for wanting me to eat dinner when I was just so close to finishing (and then I went and ate half a pot of noodle wok because the adrenaline overrode my feelings of fullness), so I would say 6 hours of continuous drawing.

That's just what they want you to think. :smalltongue:

Hmm, I smell a conspiracy... ;3

Sufficient space? Nonsense! My corner is not for claustrophobics. :smalltongue:

But then I could talk to you face to face at almost uncomfortably short distance without even being in the corner...

Hurrah! Good luck!

EDIT (Typo)

(Were you known by another name before the last round of name changes went through?)

Darting is bad enough just on ordinary trousers, and denim is designed to be hardwearing and stiff. I'm not very good at four point hemming denim, I'm not very good at darting fabric in general (mostly due to a lack of practice), so I'm dreading having to dart my jeans. But I'm not willing to have to buy more kit so soon after getting clothes for presents; yeah, it means I'll have lost weight, but sewing is a right pain!

I must be lucky to not feel the same way about sewing. I'm about a size below the smallest men's size in most clothes shops. Sometimes there are things that just aren't available in boys' sizes.

Though I do sympathize as far as sewing with denim. Thus far, I have avoided it altogether.

I deny everything, except for the fact that you are the real Dragonprime.

This could cause you to become highly contradictory.

My science is perfect with the crumbs.

But but but wooden counter tops are the best... :smallfrown: And and and we don't really need a fridge if we build a nice cellar to the ground... *takes out her plans to remodel the RB-crib*

I really don't think so. :smalltongue:
You can explode the new corner you made for Amidus. That'll teach him to behave... :smallamused: Ok, maybe not. Can't we have a firework show in the open area?

I mean, when the syringe is in a certain context, you don't talk about the syringe at all, really... If you're getting vaccinated they might ask if you're afraid of needles, but other than that they just talk about vaccinations... and the non-needle type syringe, well, I do hear that word coming more often, but it's totally normal not to mention the word syringe at all and just talk about medicating. *shrug*

But what if you're trying to use science to develop toast that never leaves crumbs?

I disagree. Stone is less likely to get damaged accidentally when one neglects to get the cutting board out to divide the most recently acquired bounty from the bakery. Mmm... Bounty...
As for the cellar/fridge debate, why not both? *waits to see if a crowd of stereotypical Mexican villagers appears before continuing* As an Australian, I'm generally opposed to the idea of cellars for fear of flood, but here in Random Banter land we can probably make it work.

Are you sure? Like, really sure?
But that would result in shards of granite flying everywhere and getting in people's eyes, and the only people who would profit from that would the Eye Patch Manufacturers' Guild. Sure, we can have fireworks, will there be an occasion?

Odd... But I see how that works. We usually talk about either having an injection or having blood drawn, so I'm not sure why I find that so strange.

In other news: I saw a doctor this morning and he was a very optimistic doctor. But in any case, I don't have a bacterial infection and should be fine in a few days, a week at the most. After that, we went shopping. I bought a calendar to put on the wall of my newborn niece's wall because I quite literally couldn't think of anything else to get and the calendar stand had a very helpful salesperson. My Mum thinks it's a terrible choice, and she's probably right, but it's a nice calendar. I also got Mynxae some cutlery and plates and things because he needs them.

Hehehe, don't bother just for my sake, I'm going to open them all up and shudder anyway, because that's how I work. :smallwink:

Yeah, Horse_eComics are a bit creepy to borderline lovecraftian at times...

Well, small for being a wound which needs suturing that is...

Huh, I always imagined you as being a year or two older than me, not slightly younger (or at most very slightly older)...

Well, I suppose I won't bother then if it's not going to make a difference.

Eh... I can't be bothered being considerate if the situation doesn't call for it. As far as I know, you're the only person here who is uncomfortable around needles and their associated instruments, and if you're not going to heed warning labels, then there's really no need to place them. I mean, I'm not going to proof my house against volcanic eruption when the nearest volcanoes are so extinct they've crumbled away into interesting shapes.

I'll just count myself lucky then that I chose not to examine it in greater detail then.

That's definitely not my definition of a small wound then.

Hmm... If you were born in '93, that makes me older than you by a couple of months, if you were born in '92, that makes DraPrime (it's going to take a while to get used to that) a couple months older than you. Because your birthday is in May, whereas both of ours are in March.
Fortunately for me, you're both on the list, while I'm not as it hasn't been updated in the longest time.

A lot of people have overestimated my age around here. I don't know why. Maybe it's something in the way I write? I definitely don't talk in a super mature manner, but writing is different. As for my beard, it is not long, but I'd like to think it is full of wisdom.

Įf ÿœū hõłd łęttèrß øñ æ Måç, čòół łëttêr ôptīõńš ßhòw ūp.

Apologies to everyone, but this reminds of something most interesting. The ß used in Germany and other places despite looking like a B is in fact a result of writing a double s quickly. Of course, the first s in this case would have been an ſ, which was used in every situation, save for the end of a word, the second s in a double s or preceding or following an f. Hence, ſs, became ß.
Alas, I can never remember the code for it, so I can never use it for fun.

This was Elemental, from the World of Useless Facts.

Eh, I'll never remember anyway, so why worry?

Hardwood is great, for sure, but I like tile a little better. Tile doesn't normally squeak when you walk on it, and it's refreshingly cold in the middle of winter.

Honestly, I think that'd be pretty cool. Certainly much better than how we do things now, anyway.

Or just scoot the corners next to each other. They're mutable things. :smallcool:

I have no real idea... It's foggy up there.

Umm... That was a pen license. I.e., a license that signifies I can write neatly enough to write in pen...

In this case, I needed to make sure that Mynxae hadn't already made arrangements to get cutlery and plates.

It's not an almanac... An almanac is a book that lists tides, planting dates, weather forecasts, festivals both religious and secular, astronomical data such as the times of the rising and setting of the Sun and Moon, the motions of the planets and any eclipses predicted to occur. I assure you, that even I would not buy such a gift for a newborn. But yes, in any case, it should be pretty and brighten up her room considerably.
Out of curiosity though, does almanac mean something completely differently in Swedish?

I do too. There is stuff I want to do.

I wonder how seriously people get taken when they have performing arts degrees if they don't come from a conservatory. Do you know if your school awards BMs?

Eh, they require much more upkeep than tile, they're more expensive, and they're less durable/more susceptible to burning. The only advantage they have is that they're aesthetically pleasing, which doesn't matter too much to me.

Indeed it is. However, one can hardly count them as among the more uſeful pieces of information. Still, the part about it ſeeming as though they're moſt of what you know is a feeling I am alſo familiar with.
I wonder if there is ſome ſyſtem by which the human brain remembers them with greater eaſe...

As far as I am aware, we never get fog where I live. Sometimes down in Briſbane, but never here and it always burns off rather quickly. Occaſionally there's miſt in the nearby paddocks late of an evening, but that's hardly the ſame thing.

Remembrall is the word indeed. However, they always ſtruck me as a rather pointleſs device. All I can ſee them being at all practical in terms of uſe is to make ſure you've included all the information in a report or the like. I mean, if you've forgotten ſomething, being reminded probably won't jog your memory until an appropriate external ſtimulus pops up.

Not neceſsarily. I point to the caſe of the Palace of Versailles. Originally, much of the interior had poliſhed marble floors which required frequent waſhing, which in turn threatened to rot the flooring timbers. As a reſult, they ſwitched to parquet flooring inſtead.
Plus, if your house is on fire, it's not going to matter very much as to the flooring material as fires tend to burn upwards. Plus, in addition, prior to the riſe of iron and ſteel as ſtructural materials, almoſt every building incorporated wood in the form of ſtructural timbers. ſtone beams are too heavy, and as ſuch, roofing timbers have been incorporated in buildings ſince time began. Except in places like Egypt and the Middle Eaſt where timber was more ſcarce. Examples include the Parthenon of Athens (I believe they uſed imported cedar for the job, I could be wrong of courſe.) and almoſt every cathedral built in Europe. In fact, there was a big fuſs when they were finiſhing up Cologne Cathedral in the eighteen hundreds as the architect in charge of building the roof decided to uſe iron over the traditional timbers. Of courſe with World War II not even a hundred years later, it proved to be a wiſe deciſion.
So where was I? Ah yes... The material of the roof and walls is of more importance when fire ſafety is concerned. And beſides, when it comes to durability, you people juſt need to remember to not drag furniture acroſs it.

I know that, but I don't want to be ſo eaſily repaired. I know it ſounds odd, but I'm a thoroughly traditional perſon with regards to theſe kinds of things.

But doeſn't it enlarge while retaining the original proportions? In which caſe I'd look like an ordinary horſe, juſt bigger ſomehow?

That is indeed good news. I found myſelf being irrationally concerned about you Americans and your ſemeſters continuing right up to Chriſtmas.

I'd assume they don't, then. It's not like the music department is really a big deal at this school. We do mostly engineering and business. :smallamused:
Well seeing as how most schools do not, I figure it's a safe assumption. :smallamused:

Doesn't look like it; they're listed as BA's. Might have something to do with the music department being under the college of liberal arts and human sciences, rather than as its own college. (like say, engineering, or business :smallamused:)
Oooh, business. Such a worthwhile degree. :smalltongue: Alas, most schools only offer BAs. I know my school offers BMs to con. students, but even if I graduate with a degree in studio art, I think I'll end up with a BA and not a BFA. Granted, if I went to art school I couldn't dual major in the way I intend here, but whatever.

You should steal him before I move. I can't take him with me unfortunately.

He has become a little fat now, which looks ridiculous with his tendancy to sit permanently fluffed up.

How old is the poor fluff? I feel like this parting of ways may be tragic for him, and that kidnap would be a mercy. For in my captivity, he would be assured of companionship, and that good use would be made of every square inch of that fluff.

Did someone mention ships? *looks around for that ship that won't stop chasing me*

I'm Beluga now? I suppose that's a thing. I am doing very well, thanks for asking. Finished with my quarter and all, so on break and everything is dandy. How have you been, Kneenibble?

I don't get it. Do you mean that people keep shipping you? Or that you have cracked, and that you actually believe you are being assailed by invisible enemies?

Yes, you are Beluga now. This is goodly: for is it not pleasant to have rest? I myself, for a number of reasons, am better than ever before. Come let us celebrate all this goodly news with a few thimbles of sweet distilled laughter.

Well, I cheated a bit by tweaking a storebought spice pack and forgot to spike it with brandy, but, yeah. Was the first time a lot of the other people had ever had non-chilled wine as well as the first time a lot of them had ever had anything other than hot cider as a warm winter drink.

Just as long as we're not supping on his meaty flanks, I imagine he needs those.

Heh. Fluff for the Fluffenlaird.

Was it a spice pack specifically for a-mullings? Damn you're making me crave the stuff. Mit or nein mit das brandig.

He can still use his flanks after we sup. I just want a teensy taste. ;___;

hello everyone, i've been lurking around here for a while, wondering whether or not to post (i hate walking in on new threads :smalleek:)

Welcome to the banter! It is always a new thread. All the talk in here would be 300 pages long but the banter is put in a fresh thread sometimes. I am making some tea. You may have some too. I will try and find something in the last two pages to talk about.

But what if you're trying to use science to develop toast that never leaves crumbs?

In other news: I saw a doctor this morning and he was a very optimistic doctor. But in any case, I don't have a bacterial infection and should be fine in a few days, a week at the most. After that, we went shopping. I bought a calendar to put on the wall of my newborn niece's wall because I quite literally couldn't think of anything else to get and the calendar stand had a very helpful salesperson. My Mum thinks it's a terrible choice, and she's probably right, but it's a nice calendar. I also got Mynxae some cutlery and plates and things because he needs them.
As for my brothers, I'm just going to put money inside a card, and possible inside an envelope.

That is good science. And they did try. Crumbs in space were dangerous to the rocket controls. :smalleek: And since space science is good for us all we got bread that does not drop too many crumbs. It is called english muffin bread. It is not a true english muffin. It tastes like it after toasting and butter though.

I am happy that you will not take weeks to heal.

The calendar needs a little more to make it special. Buy a ribbon and a good pen and a little bottle of hand sanitizer or a travel box of hand wipes. Tape the ribbon to the calendar and tape the pen and hand cleaner to the calendar. Add a card that says now you do not have to run for the baby book when she does something special. Write baby's first moments in here and write them down in the book later when you and baby are not going to spill anything dirty on the special pages. :smalltongue:

Okies, I shall try and remember to post when I arrive home.

I'm doing a transcription of the order of the stick comic. I have about 536 left to do, and am trying to get some helpers, but it's mostly just me. The tricky part is going to be posting them in such a way that they avoid the character limit, as well as leaving enough room for future updates. :smallsigh: The first post goes up to update 45, the second to 80, and so on. I just wish I could get 50 in a page, but alas.

Not to mention I've got my huge world building project, and my even bigger Annotation of the order of the stick, which is getting fairly big, yet fun to archive. Data entry for me is fun when I enjoy the subject. I like problem solving things that come up in the entering as well.

I'm a tad messy at home myself, but as a teacher I'm VERY organized. It's a strange contradiction.

I'm most familiar with this version:

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who got his foot stuck in a bucket
Try as he might
It remained stuck on tight
And so in the end he said: "Oh bother."

Because there's no such thing as clean limericks
There once was a schoolgirl whose shame
Was that she had a ridiculous name
Her schoolmates would tease
And pelt her with cheese
Then the teachers would do just the same.

There once was a man from Bengal
Who went to a fancy dress ball
He decided to risk it
And go as a biscuit
But the dog ate him up in the hall

Ok, guys... I'm going to be pretty much non-existent on the forums until next Monday evening, and I'll probably be here sobbing around on Christmas eve and day, and after that I'll be very much non-existent again. I have assignments, I have a stressful amount of stress that I can't handle right now, at all. My deadline on the 23rd is killing me and I'll be reading and writing my ass off until then, only to begin writing two other assignments due in January plus lesson planning, and after the assignments it's straight to my 6-7 week placement block... I will not have a holiday until Easter...

Lie? But we do have good beaches! They're not on the same level as some beautiful beach in the tropics, but the Cape, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket are all very fine places to go relax near the water during the summer. Certainly they're nice to a Canadian who lives near the arctic circle.

Hey, my old drummer's family is from Nantucket! I hear it's a wonderful place, and full of horribly dirty limericks. :smallamused:

Well, I know for sure that Halu isn't very fond of needles or drawing blood either, and I'm pretty sure there were two more who found Finns syringe staff a bit uncomfortable, but I don't remember who...

It was inteded to be put in relation to wounds in need of suturing, but I don't think I stressed that very well...

Ahh, by the way you phrased it, I thought you were a ninty-twoer as well. With this sentence in mind, I'm pretty sure you can guess my age relative to yours... ;3

I was thinking about throwing my sewing machine driver's license into the joke, but couldn't come up with any witty way of doing it...

Right... Sorry, I didn't sleep very much last night and mixed the words up in my head. But yes, the etymological equivalent of almanac in Swedish is a calendar in book format with extra lines for filling in appointments and such. Not the same as a calendar, but at least a bit closer to one...

I bet they didn't seal the cracks between the marble tiles very well...?

Meanwhile, to me it sounds like they're all ending early...

Heh, I keep reading your 'ſ's with a lisp. Also, I think switching back may be a good idea, going on for too long may not be entirely compatible with the rules against excessive formatting...

That's right. I can't believe I forgot.

No, it was not particularly clear. But that's alright, communication difficulties are par for the course.

Well, if I was a ninety-twoer, I'd be older than DraPrime by about three weeks. Hence, he's almost a full year older than me, but falls short of the mark by twenty-three days.

Ahh... I had assumed you somehow misinterpreted what I had said.

That makes sense I suppose. Still, it would surprise me if you didn't have your own equivalent of the English definition as they were rather handy before the invention of the Internet.

*Verſailles. Can't believe I missed that one...
I've got no idea. But they were concerned about it enough to change the floors and start a new trend in interior decorating.

On what possible world could ending a semester in January exist? Does Sweden exist on the other side of a dimensional barrier of some sort? Because that is a very unusual occurrence in my mind. I think it best not to have the exams straight after a break for Christmas.

Yeah... I do that too sometimes. They just look so much like f! And yes, I will be switching back, and have already done so. The work required slows down my typing slightly, inconveniencing me mildly.

WHY ELEMENTAL
WHY

There are even more ways you could format your posts like early modern printing. Each one of which more strange and horrible. Look, if I want my eyes to hurt, I have daily access to a rare book room of books like that. It's only fun if psychoactive book molds accompany the experience. If you can find a way to transmit that in your posts, then I shall give you my nod. Otherwise... well let's just say that you'd better close your windows at night if you don't want to wake up covered in nibbles every day.

Because one was up late, tired and sick, and one's mind wanders into strange places. Plus, I found myself unable to avoid explaining the original of the German double s when Cuthalion casually used one. Alſo, I like the long ſ.

Pſychoactive book moulds? Well, they're hard to render in a digital format, but I suppose I can put something together. But in the meantime, I'm reverting to the modern usage, as I had always intended, because to continue on the path of antiquated letter variation will lead only to madneſs. Plus, it's no fun without thorns.
Alſo, I have already cleverly defeated any who would deſire to enter my room through the window and nibble me for I have a fly ſcreen! *evil laughter*
I'll stop now...

How very strange... I just wouldn't have packed the Astronauts sandwiches in their lunches...

As am I. Christmas is coming up, and I don't want to have to miss it.

Ribbon we have, but I doubt I'll be able to get down to the shops to acquire a nice pen. But in any case, I'll suggest that to my sister in law.

Dirty Limericks about well-endowed and perverse men from Nantucket. :smalltongue:

Because there's no such thing as clean limericks.

Or, you can go for the original version which can be published here:

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.

As for the part about a lack of clean limericks, the point can be summed up in limerick form:

The limerick packs laughs anatomical,
Into space that is quite economical,
But the goods ones we've seen,
So rarely are clean,
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

Not that there aren't good ones that are clean, they just seem to be less memorable.

It's quite simple really, none of the other places are inside a paper bag.

It is difficult to take you seriously when your combination of older and newer fonts causes all of your 's's to look like 'f's.

I personally prefer hardwood floors. They are nicer to walk on and look better in my opinion.

Well... Technically I didn't change fonts... I just copy-pasted the same long 's' over and over again. And besides, they don't look like 'f's as they are lacking in the cross bar. Okay... They look like 'f'...

Agreed. They are so much more cosy than tile.

@Dimonite: Well, the issue comes down to who he's comparing himself to on the field of drawing well. Compared to Leonardo Da Vinci, he's terrible, compared to a seal on LSD, he's probably pretty good. I say probably because I've never met a seal on LSD before.
As for my personal opinion, I cannot comment on the minotaur as my own ability to draw humanoids is non-existent. However, I will say the anatomy of that unicorn is a bit off. But I can barely draw an animate thing without a reference, so I can hardly be called an expert in the field.

Can you please explain the reference to me? I don't understand. ;___; *bobs head wildly, squawking*

Hey, ask your mother [unless, does she not work with books?]! There's a weird buzz you get from enjoying books more than a couple hundred years old. It's no wonder all those early modern thinkers, poring over their classics, were so zany and creative. Perhaps it's psychological, but I seem to recall reading an article on the topic.

Here, at least, is a neat article about the science of old book smell (http://pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.1021/ac9016049) (I proffer this also hoping Curlilius might be interested).

Amazing drawings, Wombat! I love the paint drip effects on the edges of their fins. It makes them look really cool.

Gratsi! I wanted to do something to make them appear...wet! I've liked the flowie paintie thing so much, I'm going to try it with other things - Elephants, Dogs, Horses, Tiger, and so on. We'll see how they turn out!

Okay, these are fun. It's like "oh, just painting some nice, representational fish" but then you go to the fins and it's Pollock out of nowhere.
 Ultra realistic with abstractism thrown in is my favorite style, so this played right in to that.

I too approve, those fish-draws are amazing. I like the salmon one.

Why thank you! I think it might not be too far of a stretch to start some sort of budgie....:smallwink: The brown (steelhead trout) and blue(rainbow trout) are 11 x 13 I think, and the red(coho salmon) is 11 x 18.

 I...well...I can't draw avatars well. If I did make myself an avatar, It would be too detailed. I've tried making online comics, and my illustrations aren't very good at all. What do you charge for pieces of this size? I'm just curious.

Well, I tend to charge based on the amount of time it takes and factor in size. The seahorse sold for $135, but I've had more detailed paintings (ones with backgrounds for instance) that were smaller sell for higher prices. The 3 fish sold as a set for about $350, and I then matted them for a little more.

Truth be told, I tend to cater more toward the client's desire. The first question I usually ask is - what do you want to spend? And then give them the options they have based on that. So if someone is wanting to spend $50 dollars, I know it's going to be pretty small, with more detail, or small with less detail. So on.

Adobe Suite? I can't really draw wombats as Batman myself, which is why it took a while. :smalltongue: But I'm horrible at watercolor, and not very good at sketching either...

As someone who doesn't know much about the looks of different fish, I'm not aware what knowledge is common about them. I learned about these fish as I created them.

I assume they say drawing the same way some say kleenex instead of tissue, or windex instead of window cleaner. They are indeed painted - watercolor.

No, no, no. I'm just working of the final for my Themes in Western Art class. The final just happens to be a theoretical exhibition which we curate. See, we have to take an academic article, synthesize it, and then write an abstract as to why it does and doresn't make sense, then model an exhibit off of it. (This included writing labels for the included pieces.) Mine happens to be on the creation of early Modernism in France.

Sorry if I confused you. Although it would be fun to work for my school's art museum as a guide in the future...

Heh. My aunt and uncle are marine biologists and I memorized National Geographic books for fun when I was small. *shrug* It mainly has to do with the ... snout? I don't know the proper anatomical terms for fish aside from the different fins.

Ah. Nicely focused!

Well, I can be so when I get going. As you may've noticed, I was quite off (toward the positive side) in my predictions of when I would be done, but the high tempo took quite a toll in the several hours required to wind down, so I didn't get to sleep until 4 in the morning that night.

My Demon Cat has crawled inside a paper bag and is sleeping on top of a pile of leaflets and things. Why she's doing that when she has a settee, two chairs, and a blanket pile in just one room out of the entire house I don't know.
But I have come to accept that Her Ladyship is made of strange whims and her motives will never be known to mere humans.

Well, imagine you were living your whole life wrapped up in a snuggly, fuzzy mattress. Wouldn't you take the chance to sleep just about anywhere you could? I know I would. ;3

I heated up hotdogs from the freezer and just now have found out that they are expired by over a month and am feeling reeeeeeeally sick. :smallsigh:

Hmm, unless your freezer is too warm, they shouldn't go so spoiled as to make you that sick when frozen, even if they're one month past their expiry date, because bacteria doesn't grow very rapidly at -18°C (partially because they're frozen in place). That said, if there were bacteria in them to start with, they would still be there when you heated them up, so if they were bad from the start, that may explain a lot. I may also be a bit iffy on my freezer knowledge, I think stuff still can go spoiled in the freezer, only it happens really slowly...

Well, if I was a ninety-twoer, I'd be older than DraPrime by about three weeks. Hence, he's almost a full year older than me, but falls short of the mark by twenty-three days.

Ahh, I must've missed the "full" part, or at least failed to take it into consideration...

That makes sense I suppose. Still, it would surprise me if you didn't have your own equivalent of the English definition as they were rather handy before the invention of the Internet.

We have Bondepraktikan, which more or less is the (somewhat older) Swedish equivalent to The Old Farmer's Almanac.

I've got no idea. But they were concerned about it enough to change the floors and start a new trend in interior decorating.

I suspect they didn't, because one of the primary virtues with tile floors is that they don't leak water...

On what possible world could ending a semester in January exist? Does Sweden exist on the other side of a dimensional barrier of some sort? Because that is a very unusual occurrence in my mind. I think it best not to have the exams straight after a break for Christmas.

No idea. I and probably many of my peers would gladly shift my summer holiday one week earlier to not have to have that one week at the very beginning of January in which CSN (the ones who give us the student benefits and loans) just have to force any course which continues into the new year to schedule something mandatory which grants credits... :smallsigh:

I don't really get your point, to be totally honest. Also, Rain Dragon, here was the image I was talking about.

Can you please explain the reference to me? I don't understand. ;___; *bobs head wildly, squawking*

Oh, wait, no, I got my terms mixed up. I mean once every 2-3 years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_moon)...

Hmm, I may ask her about it tomorrow, if I remember... :3

ION:
Phew, that's enough exam studying for tonight. I spent a good one or two hours trying to figure out how to create a check matrix from a generator matrix, when the book barely even mentions generator matrices in the first place. In the end, I figured it out, but it sure was frustrating before I finally managed. Oh well, with that behind me, I should be able to handle tomorrow today's exam without too much problem...

Heh, this is exactly the kind of thing that would be included a college yearbook in the 1900s. And folks would go hysterical over it.

NOW WHAAAR BE OVIS

I know. No one can ſeriouſly complain about antiquated hand-writing techniques. Anyone who can needs a new hobby. In any caſe, I freely abandon ſuch writing to both ſave myſelf time and avoid confuſing everyone unfamiliar with them, preferring inſtead to only make uſe of them when the ſituation calls for it. Plus, I'm trying to train myſelf not to think of them as a ſtrange hybrid of 'f' and the regular 's'. It annoys me ſo much when I ſubconſciously read them as ſuch.

*seizes power in Denmark and proceeds to conquer half of Luxembourg*

Well, if you're going to be like that about it, I might as well let you in and offer you a drink of some sort.
That asterisk scares me... Where's the footnote to accompany it? WHERE?!?!?

I have always felt that people were more easily driven to hysterics in those days. Perhaps the issue was a result of greater exposure to psychoactive book moulds...

You know, one of these days, you're going to accidentally break one of those crystal goblets and stain your feathers a most interesting shade of red.
And that would be terrible because I would initially assume you were involved in a battle against some primordial evil and then I would find out the truth and be even more distraught.

We have Bondepraktikan, which more or less is the (somewhat older) Swedish equivalent to The Old Farmer's Almanac.

I suspect they didn't, because one of the primary virtues with tile floors is that they don't leak water...

No idea. I and probably many of my peers would gladly shift my summer holiday one week earlier to not have to have that one week at the very beginning of January in which CSN (the ones who give us the student benefits and loans) just have to force any course which continues into the new year to schedule something mandatory which grants credits... :smallsigh:

Well, an almanac by any other name functions as an almanac still. There have been loads of them published under many different names throughout history after all.

Not so. While it is true that they don't visibly leak, moisture still seeps through. The tiles themselves are very unlikely to permit water being marble in this case, but I rather doubt that they were able to find pieces of marble large enough to floor each area without seams.
And if said floor is being thoroughly washed regularly, then the issue is bound to arise eventually.

I think your union thing needs to think about that again. It just strikes me as exceedingly impractical, and probably something that your teachers find equally as annoying.

Although I'll most likely be having a different guy over on the 27th/28th :smallwink: Mutually crushing on each other, have for a few months but kinda didn't talk much so we wouldn't want to be desperate to see each other etc, but he's coming up to Brisbane (from Sydney, like 1000kms away I'm fairly sure) to meet family and is coming a few days early to see me (among other things... :smallwink:) :smalltongue::smallbiggrin::smallamused:

Daaaang. He came to see Ele? How sweet of him. :smalltongue::smallwink:

I'm not sure whether to feel complimented that you consider me amazing enough that anyone who visits Brisbane should visit me, or insulted that you neglect the entire rest of the city.
But then again, I admit that I feel the same way about Chicago sometimes.

Also, one of these days Mr. Crunk, I will determine where you live. But for some reason, I keep thinking you live on a tropical island somewhere, and I don't know why. I also have a feeling that you've told us already, but I seem to have forgotten.

In other news: I have tonsillitis! The doctor missed it, so I assume it manifested in the past couple of days. In any case, it is another throat/chest infection which has turned to disaster. So I'm going in again in the morning to see about a script for antibiotics. And a medical certificate so I can get out things.
If I'm not better by Christmas, I will not be going up to celebrate Christmas with the family as I would rather not make my niece sick so soon in her life. To make up for it, I will have to acquire some very nice cards. At least we're spending Christmas Day at my aunt's house, so the whole holiday won't be ruined.
Don't worry Mynxae, I don't blame you for this, my tonsils just hate me. But if I am to spend Boxing Day at home all depressed and alone, then I would appreciate a visit.

The days are quiet before going to visit my family for Christmas. This is good because I will want to talk to them. This is bad because part of the quiet is lack of work hours. But I am still drinking so much tea to keep from drying out even when I am not talking. I thought that was part of the reason. :smallconfused:

There are days when I am happy that I didn't follow through with my desire for a career in aviation. Usually this is when I'm reminded of how inefficient the industry is. Today is one of those days. Due to copious delays I am now waiting seven hours at the London airport instead of two. Oh well. Hi British playgrlunders! I'm closer than usual!

When I am driving next week before and after a long flight I will remember this and remember why I chose to fly just once and drive the shorter parts of the trip. It is strange that a pilot controls so much once in the plane and controls so very little outside of it. :smallconfused:

I did not sleep at all last night and am now desperately Googling to check the opening hours of the medical centre I went to on Tuesday. They should be open by nine, but that's not important. I need to know whether or not they take people without an appointment as we only found out last night that my tonsils have become infected. All things considered, my Mother should have had them out when I was two. I'll call them at eight thirty. Otherwise, I shall just turn up at nine with a book and sit and wait for someone to see me.

But back to the sleep thing... This coughing will be the scourge of my existence. It just won't let up.

Can we make an exception? Sheepie is delicious, delicious lamb after all.

No, I don't think Hobart is like San Francisco for us... It's thousands of kilometres away to the South, on an island, and as far as I am aware, isn't any more foggy than most places.

Not that I am aware of. The climate around me is subtropical and I live on a continental landmass. So, I think that's a no.
And yes, Crunk certainly writes in a style highly reminiscent to me of an American, yet the forty degree temperatures he's mentioned directly implies a location that is either equatorial or South of it.
Oh wait, I just checked and he does use the proper spellings for things. I can't believe I never noticed before.

How do you think I know I have tonsillitis? I only suspected it so I had my Mum look down my throat with a torch to confirm sightings of the dreaded white spots. I'm rather hoping I can get antibiotics that are good enough to kill this thing dead in a few days, but I rather doubt they'd be that effective. As such, I am pretty certain I'll be going to my Aunt's house on Christmas day as there is no problem if she becomes sick, but I won't be able to go up to Proston on Boxing Day because there's no way on this Earth I'm going to risk getting my infant niece sick.

That is true, but you do need to remember that Versailles was constructed in an age before concrete and other modern construction materials. As such, the floors were held up by timber, most likely oak, and timber rots when it gets moist.

Hehe... I like how you Scandinavians can just add whole words inside other words. I find it inordinately humorous and eminently practical.

I find this statement rather humorous for reasons that are difficult to explain, but in any case, you needn't concern yourself with reminding me as I am fully aware of the dangers.

Correction: timber rots when it gets moist without getting the chance to dry out properly again, which is why you need to ventilate areas subject to moist properly. But yes, I'm fully aware. :smallamused:

I find it beautiful, and the pracitce of writing apart quite crude, to be honest. It isn't very kind to automatic translators, however, since they usually have trouble figuring out the components of a word if the words comprising it usually aren't used in union, such as when my friend tried to translate "morotspengar" ("carrot money").

Google Translate is pretty okay when it comes to composite words, though. It accurately translates "hjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhj ulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjulhjul" into, well, 25 repeated instances of the word "wheel" (think a wheel which is mounted on a wheel, recursively). It fails when I add one more "-hjul" to it, though.

Was out running Christmas related errands (we ran out of wrapping paper again!) and was stuck in a queue behind a mother with a brat-child. Only thanks to my constant looking around while in queues (I've yet to decide if it's an inability to focus, a reaction to boredom or that leads to me doing this) did I catch this brat-child within three inches of shoving a [I]massive chunk of chewing gum into my hair.
Given that my hands were very full I whipped out my Automatic Authority Voice and snapped out, "DON'T YOU DARE YOUNG MAN!" so loudly I startled half the people in the line and made the brat-child drop his gum.
His mother was going to shout at me until I looked very pointedly at the gum on the floor and said "If he put that in my hair, rest assured ma'am that you would be paying for my new haircut." It would have been very expensive too because the angle of his hand meant that he would have shoved it from the tips of my hair right up to the root just above my ear - extremely prominent and very difficult to disguise.
And perhaps, out of spite, I'd have gone to one of the more expensive places because it had been yet another long day, I was tired and hungry and hot, and no one reacts well to getting a wad of chewing gum shoved into their hair.

I think you'll find that it rots even with a chance to properly dry out. It is an organic substance, and thus fair game for millions of years of evolution to have developed bacteria and fungi that go after it. Plus, it's made of hydrocarbons, and they tend to decompose on their own, microbial life or not.
But I digress. The timbers holding up the floor of Versailles are unlikely to be properly ventilated seeing as they are located beneath the floors and placed there in an age before people knew about these kinds of things. If they had, they would have taken that into account when they built the place and they would never have switched to parquet flooring.

Both systems have their merit, and I do find spaces to be a very useful commodity that one shouldn't limit. But then, longer words are so much more specific, which is its own joy. As for matters of elegance, it really depends on the situation in question.
Carrot money? Is this money for buying carrots, or money made out of carrots?

In this case, I'm going to have to say the English equivalent is more elegant. We just say "wheels within wheels" and let it be. Though I suppose in this instance, "wheels upon wheels" would be more accurate.

Personally, I am doubtful of success. But one hopes things will go well.

:smalleek: Get well soon! I hope it doesn't worsen. :smalleek:

Excellent work Curly. I do think that people these days let children get away with too much. Why, if I had tried to do that as a child, my parents would have been furious. In fact, they'd probably be furious if I tried to do it now.
In any case, you handled yourself remarkably.

As for the issue of running out of wrapping paper, that has never happened to me. In fact, we still have the same rolls of wrapping paper that we have had forever in our cupboard. I put it down to gift giving never really being a thing in my family due to a combination of being poor and my parents never having felt the need to provide us children with extra possessions. This house is cluttered enough as it is.
And for looking around while in queues, it's to be expected as they are considerably dull that one can hardly be expected to not look around for a convenient distraction.

In unrelated, yet still relevant, news, I have an appointment at 11:45 at the doctor's. My brother is driving me down, but I'll have to walk home. Fortunately, I can stop at the fish and chip store and get myself a nice lunch which will give me an opportunity to rest part of the way home.

In fairness to her, she didn't know what her child was about to do and was reacting to a stranger shouting at her child, once she saw the gum she (quietly) went into Lecture Mode on the child, so I got an apology from both the child and the mother.
She had long hair herself, so there was definitely empathy in there too.

We always run out. It's just a fact of life - death, taxes, need more wrapping paper. And for us at least, we always do presents for everyone, even if the adult nieces/nephews/cousins only get a box of biscuits or some toiletries; but we always go big for the children (under sixteen and especially under ten), the aunts/uncles/siblings and grandparents/parents.
Sometimes I don't think we should because I honestly can't remember the last time we got anything from the paternal side of the family for Christmas (they 'don't do Christmas' when it comes to us, but we always do Christmas for them, right down to my cousin's children), meaning it's pretty selfish of them to get stroppy when we say that we might not be able to get the adults things for Christmas. We always do, but there's a cost to that - our food and bills usually. At least with my honorary aunt and her lot she and mum came to an agreement that the babies (read: everyone under twelve) got something, and everyone else was optional - there are Problems That I Won't Go Into involved in that.
So our gift buying extends to about seventy to ninety people 'with lots of love from [Mum's name], [Dad's name] and kids' (or a variation thereon), and my personal gift giving to about a dozen at the moment seeing as I'm an adult and should be using my own money (and using my own money to buy on behalf of other people)to give presents to people, or at least go splitsies with another sibling.
And since some of the presents are small (jewellery) and others are very awkwardly shaped we're always running out of wrapping paper.

And for looking around while in queues, it's to be expected as they are considerably dull that one can hardly be expected to not look around for a convenient distraction.

It can still be considered rude, especially if you're near the front of the queue, which I was.

That's what IONs are for!
I hope you get a good prognosis then, or that it's just for a check up.
Oh, fish and chips; for someone who lives insanely close to a fish market and a good dozen or so chippies you'd think I'd have fish and chips/similar more often, but I don't. Hope it's a good one.

It is an organic substance, and thus fair game for millions of years of evolution to have developed bacteria and fungi that go after it. Plus, it's made of hydrocarbons, and they tend to decompose on their own, microbial life or not.

Not quite. We'd have many historical buildings long gone if wood didn't have the quite wonderous properties for as long as you don't mistreat it (seriously, wood is an amazing building material). Also, impregnation helps.

Carrot money? Is this money for buying carrots, or money made out of carrots?

Well, probably the latter, with the posibility of it actually being carrot slices, which kind of look like coins...

In this case, I'm going to have to say the English equivalent is more elegant. We just say "wheels within wheels" and let it be. Though I suppose in this instance, "wheels upon wheels" would be more accurate.

That was actually my take on creating an infinite word which still is... perhaps not realistic, but at least envisionable. You can think of the hjul∞ as a fractal wheel, or rather, as the innermost wheel in a fractal wheel. :smallwink:

Spend two hours manually formatting audio files in a way that both I and my notPod (such a finicky creature that it doesn't accept mass formatting half the time) both like, find out that the notPod won't register them yet so I do my usual fix: copy and paste the entire folder containing them from my notPod onto the laptop, delete the original folder, then copy and paste the folder back.
I hit paste to move the folder over to the laptop, the little pop up tells me it'll be [time] to complete the action, so I go ahead and delete the notPod folder when it says that the paste action was complete. The paste never took hold, meaning I lost two hours worth of work and cannotbe bothered to rework it.
Joy.
At least I still have the original non-formatted, disorganised files on my laptop, but I like a neat folder instead of the mess I have.
But I can't be bothered, and my inner neat freak will be forcibly subdued.
Joy.

Oh my god I stayed up until 2:49 playing Hearthstone.

CARD GAMES.

Hearthstone did that to me too when I first downloaded it.

I have cooked 30 ginger cookies! Almost done the tub of dough, so I'm guessing I'll get an even 38.

Sounds delicious.

Carrot money? Is there a practical application for this word or is it just fun to say? Carrot money. Hee.

I looked very pointedly at the gum on the floor and said "If he put that in my hair, rest assured ma'am that you would be paying for my new haircut."

I'm glad I haven't come across the same problem. Given the length of my hair I would have to get a buzz-cut and I would look incredibly silly with a buzz-cut.

Both systems have their merit, and I do find spaces to be a very useful commodity that one shouldn't limit. But then, longer words are so much more specific, which is its own joy. As for matters of elegance, it really depends on the situation in question.

(I realize this may or may not be relevant, but) As far as I know Chinese doesn't have spaces at all. Japanese doesn't either. There are a lot of ways to do things and spaces are not necessarily a commodity which is valuable across all languages.

However, with English it would irritate me no end if there were fewer spaces. English has enough problems.

I have an appointment at 11:45 at the doctor's. My brother is driving me down, but I'll have to walk home. Fortunately, I can stop at the fish and chip store and get myself a nice lunch which will give me an opportunity to rest part of the way home.

I have my fingers crossed your throat is not too sore to eat them.

Isn't it forty degrees in Australia still? Completely unrelated to the hot meal, just wondering if everyone is still melting. :smallfrown:

1.5 world problems. You don't get to count!:smallfurious::smalltongue:
What sort of place would you consider to be between democratic and communist?

Third world does not mean communist. :smallconfused:

Third world does not mean communist. :smallconfused:
No, but second world does - or rather, did. One point five is between one and two.

On another note, congratulations on your Grade Point Average!

Third world does not mean communist. :smallconfused:

The Second World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_World) did, however. So the 1.5 World would be halfway between the 1st world and 2nd world.

Oh Mynxae... You already know my opinion on such matters so I feel no need to repeat myself.

You ate Sheepie?!?!? YOU MONSTER! I was hoping we could have him for Christmas lunch!

 He's just so tasty, I couldn't resist gobbling him all up :smallamused:

Did you here the reports of thirty-seven degree heat in Hobart? Personally, I find that just bizarre.

Yeah, my friend on the outskirts of Hobart was telling me how hot it was and was almost positively shrieking at me saying "HOW DO YOU NORTHERNERS STAND THIS HEAT?!"

I knew you were sick! It wasn't just a gut feeling! :smallsigh: I may not be able to drop by on Boxing Day though, what with the guy-friend visiting and such. :smalleek:

But back to the sleep thing... This coughing will be the scourge of my existence. It just won't let up.

I know how you feel...

In other news: I am off to get ready to see the doctor. Yay.
I hate being sick. I hate my tonsils. I hate coughing. I hate not sleeping.

My coughing and not sleeping was so bad both last night and the night before that I had to rush to the toilet to throw up. Although last night I also threw up a few hours before that from stress so eh. :smallsigh::smallannoyed:

Hearthstone did that to me too when I first downloaded it.

I never got the hype about Hearthstone... I got into the beta at the end of November or somewhere around there, played it for like an hour and got bored. Haven't touched it since. :smalleek:

ION: Sick of people stressing me out for me saying something that I think is completely acceptable and they think isn't. :smallsigh:

Yay, the weather's started to cool down. I no longer feel like I'm simultaneously melting and frying. =_=

Hmm, this is an interesting line of thought. Fear not, I shall keep these thoughts to myself. They'll take a while to think out.

Hopefully you have a good holiday. Hopefully Elemental manages to celebrate his boxing day as well.

That's alright. I wouldn't say 'hype' per se (I have not seen any hordes of hearthstone enthusiasts around), but it's good, especially to kill ten minutes.

Excellent news! I don't have tonsillitis! I have tonsilloliths! What's that you say? What are tonsilloliths? Good question! I had not heard of them until today.
Tonsilloliths are clusters of calcified material that occur in the crevices of the tonsils. They are attractive as they sound. In any case, they are likely a side effect of my numerous bouts of tonsillitis, and I will be forced to gargle salty water in an attempt to get rid of them. But alas, salty water makes me want to vomit.
Aside from that, I still feel like forcibly exhaling a lung or two, but at least my temperature is down. So a possible yay.
