Ok, there is game for sale for 2.99 it is 70% off the original price. What is the original price and how do you find it?

.7x = 2.99. Solve for x.

Not quite, since it's 70% off that means that it's 30% of the regular price so

.3x = 2.99 Solve for x

If $2.99 is the price after a 70% discount, 2.99 is 30% of the original prince; multiple it by three and one third (100/30) to get back to the original result. In this case, it's even easier since 2.99 is basically three bucks, and it should be pretty easy to see that three is thirty percent of ten, since it's literally just moving over a decimal place.

The game was probably $9.99, but might have been ten dollars.

So if I am doing this right, its 10 bucks normally? Give or take a few cents.

And remember, if it's half-off, then you get it for free. Just pay for it with the money you saved.

So if it's 70% off, you get it for free and they owe you $4 :smallwink:

That's the exact same logic I use when filing my taxes.

Nine dollars, ninety-seven cents.
