In D&D 3.5, a druid may have an animal companion. Now, I know this is probably something that's been asked multiple times, but can a druid have more than one animal companion?

Thank you for your patience

With the right PrCs, yes. Just a default druid, no.

There's the Beast Master PrC which gives you more. Or take Wild Cohort feat. Not exactly the same though.

Not generally, no. You can get one with wild cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a) though, and that's not the worst plan, and you can get a whole bunch through beastmaster (CAdv, 26), but that is the worst plan.

Is there a means of having more without giving up wild shape nor casting levels?

Wild cohort is just a feat, so that's pretty much the way. It's not really the best way to spend a feat, but you could do worse, and there's no loss of wild shape or caster level involved.

Well, there's taking Exalted Companion so that your animal companion is actually a magical beast and thus can take Wild Cohort itself (and also Sacred Vow > Vow of Poverty so you don't have to spend money equipping it), but that's [Exalted]
