I have a class that I want to give power point progression to. However, the progression for many classes aren't linear, they seem to be on a curve of some sort (getting more points at higher levels). How should I stat out the progression if I wanted a class to have 80 points by level 20? Any tips or tricks for power point progression?

Extansive analysis says the equation is logarithmic,m and really complicated.

My suggestion? Think of it as uses per day. pp/level=# of max level powers per day. 80/20=4, so 4 full powers/day. Split this over 20 levels, starting a 1 at level 1, 2 at level 5, three at level 10 and finally 4 at level 15. pp=((level/5)*level)+level

Might want to soften the curve, but it should serve.

Are you wanting that 80 to be with or without bonus PP from a high attribute? For my Soulknife (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16069797) I aimed for a 80-100 total by level 20, but only gave around 40 innately and cut bonus PP from attribute in half to accommodate. (A manifester level 20 character with a manifesting attribute of 10 gets 100 PP straight up without accounting for the baseline value. So with my progression he gets 40+50 instead, which is 90).

If you're wanting 80 without bonus PP I'd go to the Psychic Warrior and multiply by .6(round up) across the board. Getting you:

1-0
2-1
3-2
4-3
5-5
6-7
7-9
8-12
9-14
10-17
11-21
12-26
13-31
14-36
15-41
16-48
17-55
18-62
19-69
20-76

Slightly lower than your goal, but pretty close. (just be aware that unless you also mess with bonus PP or manifester level that's going to be somewhere between 180 and 200 for someone with a high attribute)

Alternatively, the psychic rogue (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040723b) ends with an even 100 pp, so multiply that progression by 0.8 (rounding to the nearest integer rather than rounding down) for 80 at level 20.

{table=head]Level|Power Points
1st|0
2nd|1
3rd|2
4th|3
5th|5
6th|6

8th|10

15th|38
16th|45
17th|51
18th|61
19th|70
20th|80[/table]

I'd smooth it out a bit and make the 45 a 44, the 51 a 52, and the 61 a 60, but otherwise keep it the same if you want to end with 80 pp.

Wow, thanks for the quick feedback. This helps tremendously! Can't wait to implement this. For those of you wondering, this is for my soulblade (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16651253) class.
