Hey guys I was wondering if there is anyway to have an obscenely high amount of skill points and some form of Phoenix ability from as early a level as possible?

I figured that's all that would be needed to RP as The Doctor, but anything else nice that can be thrown in might be nice :)

Cheers for any help.

Well, obviously the regen thing comes from his race, so either a custom race or a "Timelord template" you could add to a human would be the way to go.

You *could* do it as a contingent Last Breath [SpC], tied to a contingent Heal, to bring him back to positive HP.

I'm not big on the dnd knowledge if I'm honest so I'm going to have to ask, whats that?

And I was hoping not to home rule things if possible.

Piggy Knowles had a Dr Who build that he reposted recently that would be relevant here: Piggy Knowles' Dr Who (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16484513&postcount=6)

Contingency, last breath and heal are all spells. Contingency and heal are in the SRD, while last breath is in Spell Compendium.

Without a homebrewed race, magic is probably going to be your only way to pull this off. The problem there is that the Doctor really doesn't have a lot of magic to speak of.

Artificer [ECS] maybe, fluffing some kind of wand or rod as the Sonic.

Don't forget to carry something that ostensibly is a wand of knock but in reality is a staff of infinite wishes.

Tardis might be a Weapon of Legacy and or a Item Familiar which is capable of lots of cheese. Out of the box thought could the Tardis be a mount? In many ways the Tardis is alive.

The Doctors regeneration seems to be a pact spell or contingency spell. Both are really fairly high level. While handling that with a custom race is a closer analog, I can't imagine what a proper level adjustment would be.

Having the Tardis cast the Pact or Contingency spell might work thematically and allow for more cheese that could be done at a lower level.

As for class, I like Factotem because of the heavy Intelligence focus. It also has a lot of the pull things from the seat of my pants theme to it. While the Doctor can do almost anything he isn't flashy and it's not easy like it would be for a Wizard.

The other big option I see is Artificer. Since the doctor can build all manner of things this is appropriate.

It's hard to imagine a character capable of both so much and so little.

Wow, that was extremely good sense of the Doctor. Did Piggy ever design a Tardis? That seemed surprisingly missing. The Sonic Screwdriver while icon isn't that powerful by itself compared to the Tardis. The Sonic Screwdriver could almost be a Legacy Item or powerful magic item, but the Tardis almost needs it's own character sheet. Isn't there a character class that can be an item?

I would use the 3.0 rules for Ride (category skill like knowledge and craft), and make the TARDIS an Item familiar investing ranks in Ride(Time-space continuum).

You can make a TARDIS using Stronghold Builders Guide and the Landlord feat, gain immortality by using the Wedded to History feat (Dragon 354), regenerate with Planar Touchstone: Peak of Continuation (Planar Handbook), and make the Sonic an Item Familiar. Good classes are Factotum, Archivist, or Bard with the Half-Elf substitution level. By using Leadership to make the companion, you can have a fully functioning Doctor build as low as level 12, if you're willing to sub planar travel for time travel.

Factotum was the first thing that came to mind class-wise.

I think it might work better to do the TARDIS as a cohort.

By making Doctor Who...do you mean the show..or The Doctor. There is no person named Doctor Who.

I would say an artificer with an obscene intelligence, constitution, and charisma...you could dump strength and probably even wisdom depending on which generation of the Doctor you are wanting to play.

That would give you skill points and all the nifty gadgets you want and need

I had a little fun with this once, though I do not have any of my notes anymore. I home brewed a joint Gallifreyan(race and monster class) and a time lord advanced class(d20 modern kept in mind). I can't remember everything, but I believe this allowed regeneration as an early ability. Time Lord was a skill monkey springboarding off of a smart hero base class.
