Now it seems very little of any handbook covers this, besides the metamagic thesis. Today I would like to maybe reintroduce Power Components into the forum vocabulary, as far as items and builds are suggested.
First the basic rules, you can apply metamagic affect, without the metamagic rules.
So, no caster increase,no higher spell slot cost, and for spontaneous no longer casting times.
A hidden benefit, not mentioned by the metamagic thesis, that while these items could be more expensive on lower end items, and more limited to certain spelltypes. If you build an archetype around the spells or items you will be using, these are by FAR cheaper then the greater spell rods, and you can use them all day long (if you buy enough of them).
Disclaimer: Due to rules, I can't post what price they are, just that they are really kind of very cheap, and you should looke them up on Complete champion 131-132
Now for these glorious things
Angels Blood : +1 Evil DC
Ashes of power: (This one is a bit expensive) If you cast disple magic, greater dispel magic, or break enchantment. You can make two dispel checks and chose the better result.
Auriral Sapphire : Free Quicken for a [Air] or Air domain spell.
Crypt Powder: A spell that targets the undead or corpses gets a +! DC and caster level.
Doppelganger bile , Double the duration of any invisibility spell, or bonus on disguise checks.
Dragon Ruby: [Fire] spells are doubled in spell area
Essence of Order : +1 DC to [Law]
Feather of the far reaches If used in a spell from the travel domain , it adds 10ft to the speed, or caster level +1
Game of Fate: If used on something that grants a bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, or checks, one of three affects +! caster level, double duration, or restoration of a spell as per perals of power.
Guardinal feather When you cast something with a bonus to energy resistance or armor class, this increases it by +2
Heros Tears : +2 caster level for a [Good] spell
Horn of Gorgon : Anything that increases strength, be it by size increases or enhancement add another +2 to the STR
Kiss of Discord: [Chaos] +1 caster level
Obaddis Leaf Doubles area and duration of spells of the plant domain, or specifically targets plants
Pearls of Waves: Quicken Water Domain or [Water] Spells
Scholars Dreams: Doubles range and duration of all knowledge domain spells
Soil of Stone , Doubles duration of any earth domain or [Earth] spells
Sunflower of pelor : Double sun domain or [light] spell area.
Talon of Ehlonna: Animal domain spells or spell that targets animals, increases the caster level by +2
True Warriors Blade: Increase any divine spell that does HP damage by +2 per spell level.
Twilight Green : Increase negative energy +1 damage by 1 point per spell level
Unicorn Horn: Any touch spell with a healing descriptor is transformed int oa ray with 30ft range.
