Over the past five years, I have created over a dozen different systems for tabletop RPG's. There have been those made up from scratch; ones based on DnD 3.5e or 4e; a few that use the WoD rules. I've always wanted a system that was basic, yet easy at the same time. Each time I "start over," I get better at crafting system (at least to me). This time, I've created something I call d6 Combat.
d6 Combat (https://docs.google.com/document/d/12s5tq4O10dUkHToXbm1FUErdzHdnTdJFQR9Q_fVuIYo/pub) is exactly was it sounds like: it's use dice pools made up of d6's. At first I was writing a story in which the characters are playing a tabletop RPG game and every other chapter is told in the viewpoint of their characters while they played. Then I came across a small hitch: I wanted to use a system that was easy to understand, but still allowed in-depth play.
That's when I came up with the idea for the d6 Combat system. It combines elements from multiple things: 3.5e game me a lot of the class abilities, and I use a form of 4e's skills. The dice pools I got from WoD, but the actual mechanics of succeed/failure with rolling is one I came up with myself. I poured through 3.5e spells for the classes—the cleric and wizard classes also have magic points, which wasn't as easy as it looks to plan out.
I borrowed quite heavily from DnD, but I hope d6 Combat can stand as its own system. If you could, give a look-see through the document (https://docs.google.com/document/d/12s5tq4O10dUkHToXbm1FUErdzHdnTdJFQR9Q_fVuIYo/pub). There are links at the bottom of the page to the monster manual and such. I also hid a secret class system inside of everything.
