After finishing up the campaign I am in currently, I was thinking of starting a northern, arctic campaign. Possibly with Nordic influences. I don't know much more than that but I was wondering what kind of stories or experiences other dms have had with running similar campaigns.
Anyone who has experienced or run one, or who has any ideas to input can go ahead and post. I'm simply looking for ideas currently.

Extended Fimbulwinter (http://dndtools.eu/spells/frostburn--68/fimbulwinter--1306/)s are your friend. Do you have a copy of Frostburn?

Yes, get Frostburn. This is ideal for what you want.

and stormwrack if you go with nordic. should be important either way, but you cant have a nordic campaign without viking ships!

I'd look over the available classes: wizards don't fit well but bards, clerics and druids do. Bear warriors certainly quite common.

Yes I have both Stormwrack and Frostburn and I have read them both extensively. They have wonderful ideas and will certainly be a great resource for whenever I begin the campaign. Gwendol, that is a good idea, I should go over classes and at the very very least refluff a few of them. But mostly I'm just looking for and sort of experience the playground has had running these kinds of campaigns, what kind of adventures did you do and how did the players adapt. Please share

if your going to play a nordic campaign, the aesir (nordic gods) are statted out in Dieties and Demigods and there is also a beserker Prc in there as well

Geonova thank you for that, I'll be sure to look into that.
So far my idea is to have them starting out in a small fishing village in an icelandic/norwegian kind of place. I say Icelandic because the village they are going to start in is a sort of colony for the kingdom they come from. Possibly with them all being exiled criminals, as in Australia. Any ideas on this?

Here's (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1969.0) a diary of a Gestalt Viking/Norse themed game.

Are Pathfinder resources usable? If you could could checkout the Northlands splat for the Midgard campaign setting. Lots of Northern European flavor. There are also some 3.0 (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=10006) books (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=10013)by Avalanche (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=8335) Press (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=8327)that might be useful (and probably cheap).

Remember that magic was a female discipline to the vikings. So much so that Odin even gets trashed talked for being a man and practicing it.

If any of your players want to make male wizards or sorcerers let them know that they are basically professionally crossdressing.

You can refluff the Shugenja as a pretty decent shaman, if you want the more thunder-and-lightning kind than the nature-y Druid kind.
