View Full Version : [PF] Improvised Weapon Rogue (Rapunzel Version)

A While ago when I was last among here I tried asking how how best to go about making a rogue based around improvised weapons. While I did get the advice I sought, it was also very clear what direction people thought I should take this kind of character. (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1jvrcFyM01rreoa3o1_500.gif)
As I've been on something of a Disney binge lately and have been looking to re-enter a game a little more fantasy oriented I thought this would be a good time to polish out this character concept.

First off to get some mechanics out of the way, this character originally was planned to focus around four feats:
-Catch Off-Guard (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/catch-off-guard-combat)
-Bludgeoner (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCombat/ultimateCombatFeats.html#bludgeoner)
-Sap Adept and Sap Master (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCombat/ultimateCombatFeats.html#sap-adept)
For the sake of ease, for now lets ignore anything about magical hair that glows when you sing and possesses healing qualities... that's really not a route I feel like going down just now.

So that's about it. The above feats I probably could get out of the way pretty early but I don't really have any idea where to go from there. Also since this is more about keeping to the character then being optimal I also don't quite know where to focus skill wise, I mean if the movie opening alone was taken into account Rapunzel's skills (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oOo1pAUk348/T05XLjblqLI/AAAAAAAABvc/ZtG8cqaZPTA/s1600/rapunzel+painting.jpg)are (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-glCuyqdtb24/UA9WQpa13bI/AAAAAAAACIU/AR6E1tjRuyQ/s1600/tumblr_m73crsSxab1rad1f3o2_500.gif) all (http://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/02/Tangled-Pottery.png) over (http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/32200000/Rapunzel-Candle-Making-Screencap-disney-princess-32246739-792-446.jpg) the (http://i56.tinypic.com/242bg90.png) place (http://24.media.tumblr.com/534db5cc376d41734a2fa89534a74984/tumblr_mfw1ixAOGT1rcb0d2o1_500.png), but I don't want to make her too much of a joke character...
Most importantly I guess, have fun with it.

Edit: This is largely Pathfinder based but with my gaming group it's not always clear if games will go PF or D&D 3.5. If possible it would help if someone knew what kinds of differences one would have to take into consideration if going the alternate system (like the differences in feats for one).

Hair focus, or no hair focus, I demand you take at least one level of White-Haired Witch (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/witch/archetypes/paizo---witch-archetypes/white-haired-witch).

Nice find. Never had a good opportunity to really look into witches yet so I never noticed that. If it wasn't for the want to focus on and maximize sneak attack (something I never thought I would say) it might have been worth going straight witch for a Rapunzel build...
It even lets you conveniently acquire Pascal!

Edit: And as I imagine the hair attack would be considering bludgeoning, it would fit into the non-lethal sneak attack build with hilarious efficiency

Thinking about this character build made it hard not to think of what to make the other Disney Princesses as...

I figure it would be along the lines of this:
-Elsa: Sorceress
-Anna: ???
-Meranda: Ranger
-Rapunzel: Witch (see above)
-Tiana: ???
-Mulan: Fighter
-Pocahontas: Druid
-Jasmine: ???
-Belle: Artificer
-Ariel: Bard
-Aurora: ???
-Cinderella: ???
-Snow White: ???

Some were pretty straight forward, but as you could see there were more then a few I couldn't really place. For some they just didn't seem really the adventuring type (like Tiana) while others just kinda lacked all-round characterization to build off of (like the original three).
Of those I placed though, I honestly think that would be a fairly balanced party.

-Elsa: Winter Witch (archetype (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/witch/archetypes/paizo---witch-archetypes/winter-witch) and/or PrC (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/s-z/winter-witch))
-Anna: (got nothing, ain't seen the movie yet)
-Meranda: Ranger (I think you mean Merida? Brave?)
-Rapunzel: White-Haired Witch (at least in part)
-Tiana: Something with high skills? Bard?
-Jasmine: Other than the Animal Companion she really doesn't _DO_ much of anything. Very low level.
-Belle: Artificer, works for 3.5, less-so for Pathfinder
-Ariel: Bard
-Aurora: Is there an Oracle Curse for narcolepsy?? :smalltongue:
-Snow White: Pack Lord Druid (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/archetypes/paizo---druid-archetypes/pack-lord)

Yes, Merida. Trust me not to double check the correct name.
The lack of a class for Anna bugs me though. Unlike some of the other princesses, it's not as if she doesn't do anything, but she still doesn't really do anything noteworthy. Nothing magical about her and shes really not much of a fighter. She's plenty scrappy so I keep wanting to peg her as something of a rogue (to round out the Princess party), but she is also... rather unskilled (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVPluoFxvP0)...

-Snow White: Pack Lord Druid (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/archetypes/paizo---druid-archetypes/pack-lord)
With the Leadership feat, or would that go without saying?
Good lord, what level would she have to be to have 7 followers?
Amusingly this reminds me of a 3rd party Pulpish d20 book I once picked up which had a class called 'Idle Rich' who's class abilities basically read as "Increase wealth" and "Gain Follower" on repeat over and over but nothing else.

I can imagine Belle being a Wizard.

She's always going on about books and adventure, plus her dad wasn't exactly dumb...

In a world where magic actually exists, merely being intelligent and liking to read doesn't seem like much justification of being a wizard. That would be more along the lines of qualifying to be a Bard if anything.

Except bards can command magic.

Belle cannot.

Belle is an expert, at best.

But think of the RP value.

For the record, I think (at least in 3.5) that Elsa would be a snow-adapted sand-shaper. Its a pretty awesome class for sorcerers to begin with, and if you get the conjure ice beast line on the bonus spell, you pretty much have all of her powers.

Tiana is probably an expert with levels in exemplar, who has applied skill artistry to profession (chef).
