Is there anyway to avoid the feat tax of having to take combat expertise in order to gain Improved trip? Also is there away around the Int requirement?

The best solution to both is probably getting two levels of barbarian and picking up the wolf totem ACF (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#wolfTotemClassFeatures ). You also get pounce, from spirit lion totem, and whirling frenzy (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/classFeatureVariants.htm#rageVariantWhirlingFrenzy ), which are two solid things for anyone pursuing a career in tripping and general melee fun.

The passive way monk variant also gives imp trip at level 2. This offers some other benefits, but is definitely more niche than the barb path.

So im confused here because the lion totem as listed here does not have pounce unlike the one in Complete Champion, are they from a different source?

There's a Lion Totem in Unearthed Arcana, and a Spirit Lion Totem in Complete Champion.

To be clear: Take the Spirit Lion Totem[complete champion] for the Pounce ability.
