Welcome to the voting thread for Base Class Challenge XX, Fables and Mythos and Tales, Oh My (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314915)! Voting will consist of each voter giving a first, second, and third place vote for three separate base classes. Anyone can vote.

A first place vote is worth three points, a second place vote is worth two points, and a third place vote is worth one point. You may not vote for your own class.

You are encouraged to include reason with your votes, though this is not absolutely required.

The class that ends up with the most points wins the challenge contest. Voting starts now and will continue until 23:59 (Central Standard Time USA/Canada) on January 16th.

*This entry is somewhat incomplete, with not enough melodies and such to play through to level 20. However, it seems to work up until you run out of things to choose. Included because of this, though technically incomplete.

Unfortunately, the aimensobek (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16474769&postcount=6), Faustian contractor (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16481822&postcount=7), and picaresque hero (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16499145&postcount=12) are ineligible for voting.

1st)Alluring Songsmith - I absolutely love the theme of this one. Although it's technically incomplete, I could see just a few minor additions that would make it great (The ability to control and affect mindless undead, maybe a theme or a specific song; A song that deals sonic damage similar to the shout spell). Maybe I'm just a sucker for a musical class, but it really works out.

2nd)Tall Tale - I had a hard time deciding if I liked this one or not. On one hand it's a very comprehensive class, on the other it can lead to some characters that are very eclectic either thematically or with their abilities. For example the abilities of a Miner Gambler Lumberjack Martial Lorist Iajitsu Master work pretty damn well together, but don't exactly fit thematically, yet skills that fit thematically (For example Profession(Sailor), Swim, Spot, Slight of Hand, Intimidate to make a legendary pirate king) lead to a bizarre range of abilities. I think it would really help if you wound up with only one or two of your skills be storied and more of the lower ranks by the end could really help with this problem. I think that it's a sound class, but these things just keep me from really loving it.

3rd)Merry Woodsman - This class has a lot of potential, but there are some pretty big flaws with the Guile Trick system that I can't overlook. A lot of the Burn a Point tricks should just be class features, by 14th level he has more guile points than he can realistically spend in a single day (and it's not exactly clear WHEN he restores them), the wording on some tricks could be better. But despite it's need for a lot of TLC, I do like the concept of a charismatic bowman, so you get a brownie point from me.

1) Merry Woodsman I loved the "robin hood" flavor behind this class, though I feel that there weren't enough class features. It would be so fun to play a woodsy sniper class. . . if only my DM would allow it :smallannoyed: . . .

2) Knight of Dullahan Ok, you got me with the whole "take off your head and through it so it explodes" thing. Who would want to do that?! I tried to design a class like this, but terribly and utterly failed. This is want I want! This is what I need!

3) Tall Tale Finally, a PC expert that actually makes sense! This thing can take optimization to a whole new level! Imagine multiclassing with this to make the most skillful character ever! I just think that this class's abilities are so sound and grounded. No loose strings here!

I must also make an honorable mention to the Alluring Songsmith! You're number 4!

1st: Knight of the Dullahan. I like the idea of a martial deathknight to match the DN's necromancer, and its power level is a little on the low side but lacks anything that makes me go :smallconfused: and eye it leery (there are places that I feel could do with shoring up but that's much easier to do in game if necessary) except maybe Lv 2 mettle (which concerns me more as a dip than anything else because Mettle is one of those interesting abilities that doesn't matter much until you're high enough level it's appropriate).

2nd: Feyblessed. I like the concept and it might have gotten first bit between save re-roll, all good saves, and Charisma to saving throws gets me a bit worried (although in actual play I suspect it to not be so bad unless you take the multiclass feat with paladin to dip 2 levels of paladin for insane saves).

3rd: Big Bad Wolf. I like werewolves. Would have possibly gotten higher but there's not much demand for a fairy tale wolf in D&D as a pc or npc and if you wanted one you'd want a full-fledged hybrid long before they get it.

Tall Tale: It almost perfectly captures the essence of what it was trying to replicate, and looks a blast to play.
Merry Woodsman: I do love me some Robin Hood, and this pretty effectively mimics it. I would have liked to see more as far as original mechanics, however.
Feyblessed: It's pretty interesting as far as fluff, but...It feels a bit like Fochlucan Lyrist: The Base Class. Nothing wrong with it, and it seems playable, but...ehhhh.

Damn, that was tricky. I had no classes I could cross out, each and every one of them was pretty damn great. Regardless:

1st Place: Baron of Vengeance

I like the "components" of the class, I like the special way casting's handled, and I just love the way the class can be "retired" and "reawakened". Plus, it reeks of V. That has to count for something.

2nd Place: Tall Tale

The concept of bending reality by skill use was ingenious. What's not to love?

3rd Place: Alluring Songsmith

I'm a little partial to this, since it pulled off what I tried and failed to some months ago.

Plus a honorary mention for Merry Woodsman, just cause we need more Sniper classes :smalltongue:
