CLASS FEATURES
Integrated Spellcasting: Upon becoming a nightcaster, the nightcaster loses the ability to cast spells or mysteries as their previous classes. In exchange, their spellcasting as a nightcaster is equal to the levels lost. This cannot exceed their character level. Nightcasters either cast divine spells or arcane spells, depending upon the spellcasting class used to qualify for the prestige class.
To cast a spell a nightcaster must have a Intelligence score or Wisdom score, depending if they are arcane or divine respectively, equal to the spell level + 10, and saving throws against nightcaster spells have a DC of 10 + spell level + the night caster's Charisma modifier.
Like other spellcasters, a nightcaster can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Their base daily spell allotment is given on Table 1-1: The Nightcaster. In addition, they receive bonus spells per day if they have a high Charisma score.
A nightcaster's selection of spells is extremely limited. A nightcaster may only know a number of spells based upon their level, given on Table 1-2. A Nightcaster's spells, upon becoming one, are drawn from their mysteries and spells known, but cannot exceed their limit on spells known. From that point forward, when they would learn new spells, they may select any spell that meets one of the following requirements: Spells of the Necromancy school, Spells of the Darkness or Shadow sub school, and Mysteries.
Due to the nature of their discipline, spells they cast behave more like mysteries and mysteries they cast behave more like spells. Any feat that benefits spells or mysteries exclusively can effect all nightcaster spells and mysteries equally well and nightcaster spellcasting can be treated as and be advanced as mysteries or as the form of spellcasting used to enter this class, be it arcane or divine. Any attempt to dispel a nightcaster spell by means of either a spell or mystery by someone who does not cast both faces a -2 penalty. A mystery user with no levels in a spellcasting class or a spellcaster with no levels in a mystery-using class takes a -2 penalty to identify mysteries or spells cast by a nightcaster, respectively.
Furthermore, whenever they cast a spell with somatic components, observers can make a DC 17 Spot check to note that the nightcaster's shadow is making different gestures from the ones the nightcaster is making.
A nightcaster's mysteries do not naturally progress to spell-like abilities nor supernatural abilities. A nightcaster retains all level 0 spells and fundamentals known. While they lack level-0 spell slots, they may sacrifice a single use of a fundamental to cast any level-0 spell they know.
Adverse to Daylight (Ex): Nightcasters, in their bond to both shadow and negative energy, begin to find daylight ever more repelling. Upon becoming a nightcaster and from that point forward, when exposed to natural daylight they take a penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks. This penalty is equal to their caster level/5 + 1. For example, a nightcaster with a caster level of 7 would have a penalty of -2, where as one with a caster level of 12 would have a penalty of -3.
Shadow Component: A nightcaster can, in exchange for a portion of their life force, replace the need for a spell's material component or focus. When casting a spell in this fashion, they take a number of points of damage, in accordance with the table below. Damage taken through this class feature does not require a Concentration check to cast the spell successfully.

Component Cost (gp)|Damage Dealt
<1|1
1-50|5
51-300|11
301-750|17
750+|23

Shadow-Wrought Necromancy: Beginning at 2nd level, whenever a nightcaster creates an undead creature they may choose to bestow the dark creature template to the raised undead at no extra cost.
Beginning at 5th level, the nightcaster may choose instead to bestow the shadow creature template upon undead they create.
Beginning at 8th level, whenever the nightcaster would summon an elemental from the plane of shadow, such as by means of Summon Umbral Servant, the summoned elementals gain the necromental template.
Desecrating Aura (Su): Upon attaining 4th level, a nightcaster begins to give off an aura of desecration. Each Charisma check made to turn undead within 10 feet of the nightcaster takes a -3 profane penalty, every undead creature entering this area gains a +1 profane bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws. Undead creatures created within or summoned into this area gains +1 hit points per HD. This effect cannot be dispelled except by a dispel evil spell. If the effect is dispelled, the nightcaster can resume it as a free action on their next turn.
Greater Desecrating Aura (Su): Upon reaching 9th level, a nightcaster's Desecrating Aura becomes stronger. All numeric effects of the nightcaster's Desecrating Aura are doubled.

I'm confused. Is this meant as a PrC or as a base class?

It's a PrC; it just replaces your levels of the base classes you use to enter. Sort of like how Shadowcaster can eat arcane casting levels with the Creeping Darkness variant, except all at once.

Well...

Yes. However the model/method is based more on the Maho-Tsukai (Oriental Adventures), than Creeping Darkness itself.

My goal overall is, if the name wasn't clear in this, to create a prestige class that integrates Necromancy and Shadow Magic wholly and in a fashion inspired by Nightshades. Needless to say its rough at this point. Im adding things as I come up with ideas, and I welcome help with attempting to balance it, and fluff it appropriately.

Ah, interesting. I'll comment more when it is more flushed out. But I like the idea.
