So I had an idea for a campaign. This would probably be E6 (partly because I have yet to actually enjoy that style, though it sounds great), but I'd like to run a campaign that follows (loosely) the count of monte cristo. Could that work as well as I imaginie it would in my fantasies?

Running games in Prison is usually fairly tough, but it might be workable. You'd have to have players on board with intrigue and there'd be issues with the rails if there are any...

First question you have to ask yourself: how am I going to adapt a story with a lone protagonist into a story with four protagonists?

The dynamics of a lone underdog interacting with the setting are quite notably different from the dynamics of a group of such characters interacting with the world and each other.
