Rules Question - Vampire Durkon + Spells

I'm pretty sure someone has mentioned this somewhere but looking for it is a mess (more since it's old). In this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0847.html) comic Durkon says he didn't prepared Detect Magic. In this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0894.html) other one Vampire Durkon casts Detect Magic. Does changing to a Vampire (with the Domain's change) grants him this spell? I checked over d20srd but found nothing.

I think Giant said he made a mistake. Not sure though.
