Hey Guys,

I'm building some alternate versions of an epic level character (trying to be a bit more creative with him). He's currently a ECL 36 character who's the king of manipulating the battlefield.

Frankly though, He's been getting a bit . . . dull. I've gotten permission to submit a couple modified builds to the DM for retraining

One of the varients I'd like to look into is a Debuffer. However, I'm not used to building a debuffer, and being a specialist, I gave up two rather significant spell schools for debuffing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Before anyone says it, Epic Spellcasting is on the table, but I don't have it (namely because our PCs have NPC wealth by level, and there are lots of other geegaws necessary for play at Epic levels). Also, leadership doesn't exist.

Non Negotiable aspects of the character
5LA (Half dragon + Hombrewed High Human Race)
Lawful Good (Scion of a Gold Dragon)
Middle Aged (253 years old)
Archmage 5 (At one time he was the Provost of the Imperial University of Magic)
Master Specialist 10 (He developed specialization within the campaign setting)

Any advice would be appreciated.

You still have abjur and transmutation to work with. Necro will be missed as enervation is a work horse. I recommend dispels as a debuff form mages disjunction is good lol. Polymorphing is another way to debuff by turning them into helpless rabbits. Tho debuffing typically means to strip, remove or to weaken so best 2 schools are necro and abjur. Because they either deal with raw numbers or just removing buffs.

You might look into the Fell Weaken, Fell Frighten, and Fell Drain feats. They add debuffing rider effects onto your damaging spells.

Dispelling, as mentioned above, is definitely a powerful form of debuffing.

You might look into lockdown/crowd-control kinds of spells...Solid/Freezing Fog, Forcecage, Maze...not exactly "debuffing," but sort of in a similar vein.

Debuffing isn't really that good in 3.5 anyways. Also you pretty much have made it impossible to do so. Why do you want to debuff then get rid of the schools to do so. Also you only give us 5 levels to work with. Really you only hope is to use the few remaining spells available.

Epic Magic isn't expensive if you pile enough mitigation on it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advice. Any suggested feats to make a dispeller more effective?

5LA
10 Master Spec
5 Archmage

I think Wizard 3 is necessary to get into Master Specialist, so that is 23 Levels worth. So, 13 levels to play with.
