question:

Let's say we have an hyena with trip, meaning it get's a trip attempt as free action after a successful hit with a bite.
Let's say, in hyena's previous turn, he successfully tripped you.
You turn: you stand up from prone within hyena reach, provoking attack of opportunity.

question: Does the hyena get another trip attempt upon successful bite, tripping you back down immediately upon standing up, or does this not work this way?

No, because the attack of opportunity happens before the action is completed. When the hyena bites you, you're still prone -so it gets +4 to its attack, but it can't trip you again.

What if the target of an attack of opportunity is standing, and walking by the hyena, and the hyena bites it with its AoO? Then would it get a trip attempt?

That would be a yes.

Why would it not?

Why would it not?

Never had a scenario where something or someone actually used Improved Trip.

Or ready an action to hold off your AoO from standing up prone when they fully stand.

That's not how readying actions works. Readying is a standard action, and you spent your standard tripping them, so you don't have one left to ready. Nothing in the rules permits you to delay your AoO; once the opportunity has slipped, it doesn't even make sense to get a free attack anymore.
