Question about monster stats

So apparently not all monsters list their hit die size. For example, Illurien (MMV) has 20 HD, with a given total of 230 HP, but the die used for those HD is missing. How do you figure out what it is?

What type is it? Use the die size for that type.

Edit: Assuming it's an Outsider, or possibly an Elemental, it has d8s.

Tuggy's got it. The type of HD a creature uses is dictated by its creature type. Unless it also has class levels.
