My group and I think that a weapons damage type (bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing) should have more of an effect on combat. Does anyone have any additional/homebrew rules to make damage types more involved?

There are magic armor enhancements that give DR 5 and can be bypassed by particular weapon damage types. (Hammerblock, Axeblock, Spearblock iirc)

PHB2 has a few feats dependent on damage type:

Crushing Strike: When making an attack with a bludgeoning weapon, every attack that hits grants +1 to other attacks for the rest of the round.

Driving Attack: When making an attack with a piercing weapon, you initiate a bullrush attempt against the target, with damage dealt replacing your strength modifier on the check. If you push the foe back more than 10ft you can reduce the distance by 10ft to make them fall prone instead.

Slashing Flurry: When making a standard action attack, you get to make a second attack (attacks made at -5/-10); or when making a full attack you can take an extra attack at your highest bonus, giving a -5 penalty to all attacks that round.

You could consider just straight up giving these options to everybody for free.

Another possibility is pick out a status effect that seems in theme, and weapons apply that on a crit. So a bludgeoning crit nauseates the target for 1 round. A slashing crit might make the target flat-footed for 1 round. A piercing crit might inflict a couple points of ability damage on a crit)

Each of those abilities requires a +14 BAB, that means nobody but a full BAB class can actually get them as a feat.

And yet all of them are relatively weak.

Which is why I suggested just give them away for free, as a way to differentiate the weapon types.
