Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 291 through 300.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on January 20th, 4pm EST. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, :miko: 285 A Moment of Truth (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0285.html) was bent on slaughtering all of its competition. Again. However, at the last moment its hand was stayed by being ordered to accept the award without any further bloodshed.

Who will win the award this week? We only get to find out once you start voting

The Award Season might just be starting up in Hollywood, but the party never stops here in the Playground. With that in mind, click the links below, relive some good times, and tell us which of these strips deserves to win.....

Hmm, this is a difficult one. I think I'll go with 292, runner up being 300.

Hmmm. Montage or splash panel...or Eugene...

...

Montage (#298)

294 Contracts, Shmontracts - Roy tearing up the contract is awesome.

Wow, this is a toughie. I'm torn between No. 298 and No. 300. The former wraps up plotlines from NCftPB, while the latter is focused on the threat of Xykon, Redcloak and the Hobgoblin armies in W&XPs.

In the end, the splash page of Xykon riding the Zombified Silver Dragon is too cool to pass up:

300

Hmm, lots of good ones in this batch. Fortunately, they're all very different kinds of "good," which makes the choice easier.

I'm going with 298: The Future is Forged in the Fires of Today. The montage is just too good not to vote for.

It's hard to choose between #298 and #300 (I'm a big fan of epic finales and cliffhangers), but in the end I'm going to go with #298: The Future is Forged in the Fires of Today. The cutting between the blacksmith and different scenes is very neatly done and gives this particular strip a unique feel.

I remember when that splash page came out. It was a big deal. 300.

I have to vote for #300 and the splash panel, I think.

Eh, 298 I guess.

Very strong group. I'm a sucker for a good montage of this type, though, so I'm going with #298

I'll go for 294.

My vote is for 292, but if a tiebreaker is needed between 298 & 300, I'll opt for 298. It's my 2nd choice.

294 do is a temptation, but 300 wins.

297, for being a forger of swords, not a speculator of dwarven motives for falsehood.

298 for me.

Uh, a really nice batch. The one that I like most are 293 (I love how Haley treats Eugene ), 294 (Belkar on stilts is awesome ) and 300 (awesome splash page is an awesome splash page :smallcool:)

But I'm going to vote for 292 Non-startling Revelations. I'm just curious how much XP an Ghost receives for killing a dramatic moment :smallconfused:.

The montage is great, but I'll have to vote for 300 for the panel of the army.

I'll be the only one to do so but I vote for 293. First time we appreciate what Lawful Good really should be, one of the best concepts in the whole comic. Hopefully 490 will have more luck.

To me it's 300, hands down.

It is very hard to choose between 298 and 300, but, well, you know. Splash panel.

#300 is the best one to me.

#291 made me pout a bit, my parents never came for my school plays... :smallfrown:

Hmm. Good set. the splash page is cool, and I liked Eugene's brutal murder of that innocent dramatic moment. But I think the sword-forging montage in 298 is my favorite.

Strip 300's nice splash page can't match the style, foreshadowing and humour of 298!

"...medium-sized..."
"...no loose plot points..."
"...might still be a little hot."

I've gotta go with 298 here. Splash pages are nice, but I just love me a good montage.

Exposition strips are important, but less often entertaining. Stuck between 294 and 295. I think I'll go with 295. That illusion I think seals it.

I agree, but unfortunately we are in the minority, as the exposition strips almost always wins ... Welcome to wasted vote country with me :)

In order of preference (for tie-breakers):

1)294
2) 300
3) 295
4) 298
5) Others

This really is an exceedingly strong set, inn't? In fact, one of my favorites (299) hasn't even received a vote this time.

Tough tough tough.

I think it's between 299, 295, 298, and 292 for me.

295 by the slightest of margins. The Belkar comedy at the end just nudges it ahead of the MitD understated humor.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:roy: 298 The Future is Forged in the Fires of Today (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0298.html) is the winner this time. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
