Hello all! So I've been looking for quite some time for a way to add the spell Moon Bolt (http://dndtools.eu/spells/spell-compendium--86/moon-bolt--4576/) to my Sorcerer's spell list. Outside of dipping into Wyrm Wizard (http://dndtools.eu/classes/wyrm-wizard/) for a couple levels, I haven't found a way to do this. To clear up anything race specific, I'm a Draconic Spellscale. Any ideas? Thanks.

How about the patently obvious arcane disciple to pick up the moon domain? You get moonbolt an a couple other moon themed spells.

Hmm... Upon double checking, I may be wrong about that.

yeah that's one of the first places I checked I thought it would be there but unfortunately not

Some cursory google-fu maneuvers tell me that you're pretty much stuck with wyrm wizard. It's really not all that bad a PrC though. Unless you're already planning a build that can't afford two levels and arcane preparation (useful in its own right) you probably ought to just bite the bullet and take it.

If it's not in a domain it can't some in, unless you find it on a strange list somewhere. If it were a divination then you could use Unseen Seer. There are also 10 levels of Rainbow Servant.

I thought Master Specialist could grab anything from their chosen school?

[edit] Oh, duh! "Sorcerer."

I actually like rainbow servant a lot but unfortunately I don't meet two of the requirements...I'm both chaotic and evil :3

Ask your DM if you can research the spell to add it to your spells known. From the sorcerer description:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/sorcererWizard.htm
"These new spells can be common spells chosen from the sorcerer/wizard spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the sorcerer has gained some understanding of by study."

It's an often overlooked clause, but if your DM cooperates, there is intent for sorcerers to have other spells. If it fits a theme, you may have a better argument.

You could always take Extra Spell (moon bolt). It would have to be your 12th level feat though, at the earliest (assuming no bonus feats at levels 10 and 11).

Wasn't extra spell erratad to only work for spells on your spell list?

the research thing might be something but probably not since I'm the most optimized of my group no matter how hard I try not to be. I've always been under the impression that extra spell only works for your list based on wording even though it doesn't explicitly say.

Extra spell is a bit dodgy. It wasn't an errata file but an FAQ answer that said it was to be drawn from the same list. The intent is unclear from the feat's text and DM's can rule either way.

It was FAQ'd to that effect, but only in PF do FAQ entries count as errata.

seeing as wyrm wizard is the only way I know to efficiently do it if I can get my DM to allow the PrC do you think it's worth losing a CL for moon bolt? it seems pretty powerful to me

Not worth it for a single spell, not unless it's something hideously broken.

I second the "ask your GM to use Extra Spell" thing. It's a pretty reasonable interpretation of the feat.

I mean that's quite a bit of STR drain. could easily drop a lower strength foe I feel like...but yeah I'll ask about extra spell
