Hey everyone!

Please forgive me, I've never posted on a forum before, so if I miss some etiquette or make a faux pas please let me know.

Anyways, onto the heart of the issue. My girlfriend is playing a level 7 bard in our new campaign, but she's never quite sure what spells to pick. Our DM said she can change her entire spell list if she would like, but she has no idea on what to go with/what is actually useful. We can use most books but are trying to stay away from Forgotten Realms/Ebberon. I'll post her stats below, but any help that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced!

Prestidigitation is always a gem at 0th level due to the wide variety of uses it has, detect magic is also always useful.

At first level spells, make sure to pick up Inspirational Boost (SpC) for +1 Inspire Courage. Grease is also a great first level Bard spell as is Silent Image due to its incredible variety of uses. Improvisation (SpC) is great at high CL but might be a bit lacklustre at CL7 definitely one to trade for at higher levels though.

For second level spells, Glitterdust is hard to beat, Mirror Image, Invisibility and Alter Self are great as well though.

Third level spells that are worthwhile include Haste, Major Image and Dispel Magic.

Remember you can always use spells that are on your list through a wand even if you don't know them. CLWs for out of combat healing is thus a good choice for a wand

The Three G's: Grease, Glitterdust, Glibness.

Spell selection can define your role so it depends if she wants to be a party buffer, charmer/enchantment specialist, thief, imitation-wizard, diviner, melee fighter, archer, dungeon utility-caster, diplomat, virtuoso, etc. It also depends on if there is a wizard or cleric already in the party.

I like Charm Monster, Dispel Magic, Fear, Good Hope, Love's Lament, Haste, Sculpt Sound, See Invisibility, Major Image, Allegro, Alter Self, Battle Hymn, Swift Fly, Ray of Dizziness, Silence, Sonorous Hum, Suggestion, Tongues, Harmonic Chorus, Charm Person, Comprehend Languages, Hideous Laughter, Improvisation, Inspirational Boost, Magic Aura, Invisibility, Scholar's Touch, and Silent Image.

Also, if you want to go deeper, this (http://www.imarvintpa.com/dndlive/FindSpell.php) has all the spells. You can sort by class and spell level to make things easy to find. Most of the best spells are in the original PHB and the rest are in Spell Compendium so you're in good shape there.

Check this out. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=8284) Unfortunately the spell section is crap but the rest of the info is sound.

These two handbooks have some Bard spells you may want to look into:
Bard Handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=8284)
Inspire Courage Handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9830.0)

Thanks for the help! We'll be adjusting her character tomorrow. Hopefully everything will work better this time around.
