Huh. You know, I don't see pathetically weak, here. Except for the flip on the back thing, that is just silly. I see rather powerful. If you see them as a race and culture instead of a monster.

I mean, compare them to a human. They fly. They have powerful natural weapons. They are all but invisible when hiding. They can extrude acid strong enough to eat through glass (but not wood or stone, sadly). Their cities must be damn fascinating.

Edit: plus their stats are amazing. So much more dextrous than elves. Wiser than just about any mortal race. That's it, I'm building a flumph civilization in my next campaign setting.

That said, they move very slowly, have poor maneuverability (albeit they do have the "Hover" feat), and very quickly become ineffectual vs. higher level creatures/characters. Also, IIRC, their fluff says that they tend to use their sickening stench spew at the slightest sign of danger or duress. I could just imagine one getting startled in a Flumph city, shooting out his stench, and making all the Flumphs within smelling range also freak out and do the same, starting a chain reaction that fills the entire city with stench… once a day, every day… All in all, they're just silly. Granted, the 3.5 version can stand on it's own better than in the AD&D days, but the concept is still kinda odd.

So, there's some sillyness to prune, that's why rule 0/DM fiat exists.

So they have a skunk reflex. So what? I can build around that. I can probably make it part of the culture. I've already decided that they are masterful glass blowers, using their acid to cut glass with their tentacles and shaping it.

There's so many ways to work with the stench. Perhaps when in humanoid society, Flumphs empty their stench glands first thing in the morning, far away from everyone, so that they don't cause embarassing scenes the first time someone drops a fork at the table.

In their own cities, perhaps they do it ceremonially. As a show of bravery, perhaps? "I am without fear, so I will now disable my defences for the day." Ritual before a battle or duel. Perhaps, being so tied to fear, they will invoke it in religious ceremonies. Ooh, perhaps there's a sexual component to it.

That's not fair to Law or Vergo. Clearly, Vergo is a high-level unarmed Swordsage, and Law is more like a psion of some sort.

Yes, but "Swordsages vs. Psions" doesn't have as much punch to it.

It's not that.

It's the "Eye of the Tiger" song, after which Rocky is now Optimus Prime, or at least huge good guy who is "Humanity's Last Hope (tm) (r) (c) (we thank our sponsors...)".

The image probably doesn't make it justice, but I can see why it'd be amazing.

It's not that he has too many teath, he has the normal amount of teath. He just has no lips or cheeks so you see all of them instead of just the ones in the front.

His muscleture isn't absurd. In proportion with his body it's about the same as strong athletic guys.

Now, think here. He's fiftenn meters tall. He has superstrenth above and beyond what his size and muscleature would imply(He punched the head off of a suimilarly sized titan), he can regernate from almost anything as long as his nervous system remains intact(That his, his human bodies nervous system. His titan bodies bran can be replaced), when he get's pissed off he can turn into a bigger stronger flaming version of himself, and in his first fight, he killed an other titan with his teath.

Add to that that Eren killed his first titan after it ate him alive, that when Eren's titan form first apeared and started killing ither titans, he served as a moral booster and Eren's sister, not knowing who he was and thinking eren dead(cuoe, ya know, he got eaten) called the Rouge Titan(The official name of Eren's titan form) the manifestation of humanities anger.

To put this in context, becuase of Eren Jaeger and his Titan form, humanity got it's first desicive victory against an army of regenrating man eating giants in over 100 years.

Still don't think that's awesome?

Not really, no. I will keep my "bland" opinion. "Like X, but bigger" is always pretty boring to me, as is "Like a human, but X", and this is both.

Then it just has the standard suite of Shonen powers. Super strength, regeneration and fire. It probably shouts a lot too.

It just sounds like lazy design.

A titan made of makeup doesn't seem that awesome.

Put it this way: A body the size of a 5-story building, controlled solely through fighting spirit, capable of regenerating from nearly any wound, able to be summoned in whole or part in under a second, so strong that when it punches a similarly-sized creature in the face, both the punching hand and the face explode, that has hidden reserves capable of putting it on equal standing with similar beings that can harden their bodies to the point of indestructibility. It makes the concept a bit easier to appreciate.

Also, rater, that's spelled teeth, musculature, fifteen, superstrength, similarly, regenerate, body's, brain, another, other, adoptive sister, 'cause, Rogue, humanity's, its, decisive, and regenerating. (Also, you put a space before the opening parenthesis, and unless the parenthesis is right after a period (like here) you don't capitalize the first letter inside the parenthesis.) I don't normally nitpick like this, but reading that post was physically painful.

Eren is incapable of Talking while in Rogue Titan form. The closest thing we get to shouting is when he roars(literally) while in a berserk state.

Now, this isn't a shonen series, so don't think about it like a shonen series. Eren isn't a Shonen Hero, he's a guy who turns into a Kaiju.

His physical form is much more unique then other titans, and he wields powers that others lack.http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQMmb7OlpFyCMVc1RP0XpomhLn6DYxBY IMQM4CMmH7AcBEMebtV

So maybe you should watch him in action before you complain about him being bland

It was a snarky comment related to the fact that he typed Rouge Titan instead of Rogue Titan.

I didn't exactly appreciate Attack on Titan to the extent I think I could've been, mainly because I think it was overhyped for me.

Sure, it was good for what it is good (it does pull off a good mix between at least 2 different types of horror and action), but calling it mature because it spills more guts all over the place then a bad slasher movie while leading all the characters into near breakdown mode because it's edgy and stuff doesn't exactly make it something revolutionary.

Because the Manga is still ongoing and has the requisite mature themes and drama for the hype, as well as suitably shocking plot twists and intrigue.Like the revelation that the only diferance between a normal titan and a titan shifter is that Titan shifters can regenerate their human body as well as their titan body.

Or the Survey Corps plotting to usurp the government because it no longer has Humanity's best interest in mind and the Survey Corp has sworn to serve humanity, not the king.

Honestly, when I first heard the name "Attack On Titan" I thought it would be an anime about humans living on the planet Titan being invaded by aliens. When I heard that it was actually about humans fighting giants....I was honestly disappointed. I'd rather have an anime set on the planet Titan with hard science being attacked by aliens instead...

can anyone make a "Attack On Titan: Disappointing to Eclipse Phase fans everywhere." demotivator for me?

No - you don't get it. Attack on Titan is a good anime for its mix of themes. Not for its overuse of cliffhangers or gore.

And Raziere, I'm still laughing at that idea. That'd be AWESOME.

Kaiju translates to "strange monster". "Big human" is not strange. It's bog-standard. Taking humans and making them bigger is if you don't have any other ideas on what you could do with your monsters. I don't care what other powers he has, "Big Human" is for people who couldn't even come up with "big insect" for their giant monsters.

Also, I didn't say it's a Shonen series. Just that he has all the generic powers of a Shonen character. (ALso, it is a Shonen series by definition, it's published in a Shonen magazine).

Oh, and agreed on the "Titan" part. That's just disappointing. And bad grammar. I was so hoping someone had made a good hard SciFi show.

Oh, and agreed on the "Titan" part. That's just disappointing. And bad grammar. I was so hoping someone had made a good hard SciFi show.

1. So your saying that man eating giants are bland? I do believe that you just called one of the biggest repeating themes in myth bland and boring.

2.If it acts like a giant monster, I'm calling it a Giant Monster, then gosh dern it, it's a giant monster.

3. The name is a pun that doesn't translate very well into English. The Japanese Title can be interpreted as "Giants Advance" as it, "The vicious man eating giants are advancing on our position, we're screwed". But, it could also be interpreted as "Advance on the Giants", as in "We have just made our first successful advance on the giants in over 2000 years. we might not go extinct after all."

4. I don't know that many Shonen genre horror manga. Which is what Attack on Titan is. think about it. 2000 years ago, massive humanoids appeared and began eating humans, driving humanity to the brink of extinction. around a hundred years ago, the survivors managed to hide inside a massive city with Giant walls, and for the first time humanity was truly safe. soldiers would guard the walls, and soldiers would go out and kill titans. In both cases, a soldier was less expected to fight and more expected to die bravly. Then a giant titan with no skin kicks down the outermost wall. 20 percent of the human population dies that day.

Let's talk about the titans fror a moment. Their very existence blatantly defies the laws of physics(This is commented on in universe) They don't actually need to eat, and in fact will only attack and eat humans. they have no reproductive organs, but yet more keep appearing. Backing up a bit, the titans don't actually have a digestive system. they have a vestigial stomach. they chew you up, and if you don't die you get the joy of drowning in gore, or being boiled alive in blood because a titans natural body temperature is several dozen degrees hotter than a human's. The smallest such monster is 7 meters tall, the largest is 30. The bigger they are, the higher their body temp gets(to the point that the Rogue Titan's "Flaming" appearance is less actual fire as much as it's body temperature being just that high). They regenerate. Cut then, shoot them, tear them apart with cannon fire, and they just get back up. not even a clean decapitation will finish them off, unless it takes out a specific part of the neck. Then we get the Abnormal Titans, which have appearances and capabilities far greater than the common ones. This one is smart enough to hunt. This one is super fast. This one has natural armor.Every last one of them used to be human. For a Titan Shifter like Eren, the human body is located inside the titan's neck, and the human nervous system is connected to the titans nervous system. while inside, the "piolet" is kept on perfect life support. They don't even age.

With a normal titan, he human body is absorbed into the Titan body, leaving nothing but a broken central nervous system remaining.

So think less "giant humans" and more "giant zombie apocalypse"Even the apeareance of eren doesn't make it anyless horrifing a setting, becuase even though e's humanitieds best hope for survival, he's also very weak as far as titanshifters go, he's the only one on the good guys side, and he could lose control of himself at any time and start attacking his alies.

so maybe the concept is't orginal, but please don't call it bland without actually watching it.

It does try the grimbright method of being "mature", which is something I hate so much it makes me feel like ripping my own guts off, but if it wasn't trying to be "mature", I'd like it quite a bit. I do believe that I already mentioned that the actual "mature" elements(Other than the blood and gore) don't come in until after the Female Titan Arc.

Since the anime ends after that arc...

I haven't said a word about the show. Or, well, maybe the Zombie Apocalypse part. I said the monsters sounded very uninspired. Not the same thing, some people can do good things even with the most basic ideas.

That said, I really don't have the time to spend three and a half hours on just anything. To get me to watch a show, it will probably need a good premise and several recommendations from people I trust, at least. Good graphics, too, from an Anime, which this seems to have.

My Two Copper Pieces

Haven't watched any of Titan (aside from team four star's abridged version) but I will say that while the monsters are a little basic, it seems like its been so long since the concept's been used that it goes right back to an original idea.

Zombies have been in such constant use that they constantly need to come up with twists to make it (somewhat) interesting. Same with vampires. But giant people as the main antagonist of the story hasn't been used since Attack of the Fifty Foot Tall Woman. Before that you have all sorts of giants in mythology, but it seems like it just hasn't been touched on alot by more contemporary media.

I don't know just seems that Titans are unoriginal for ripping off giants in folklore the same way Dracula and Varney the Vampire are unoriginal for ripping off Eastern European folklore. Technically true, but the idea has had so little saturation beforehand that it's become original again.

Basically what I'm saying is, anyone can come up with a wildly original creature and make something out (and that's the exact opposite of wrong) but there's a reason some classic monsters have survived. The undead are our fear of death. Werewolves a fear of losing control and of the wild. Aliens a fear of the unknown. Giants though are a simple but terrifying fear, that there are things out there that can kill us as easily as we kill ants. It's not complex, but there's still a primal fear of being the prey there. When something so primal exists, yet has barely been used, why not explore that kind of fear in a work? Simplicity and scale are sometimes the best way to convey fear.

There's that.

There's also the fact that even when it's friendly, the idea of anything that big is terrifying.

And the Primal fear of being eaten alive, the fact that if you get swallowed whole you're either going to drown in gore, be boiled alive in gore, or be cooked alive by the Titan's body heat.

The fact that the Titans have apparently no reason to eat humans.

It's terrifying

More that when you're competing with creatures that rewrite history, immortals, teleporting demons, vampires that destroy anything with a literal flick of the wrist, knife throwing maids that stop time, people who keep thermonuclear hell ravens, and the humans that fight and beat all of this, someone who controls bugs is rather low on the totem pole. Yup, sounds pretty much like Worm-verse. How big armies can the demons teleport? How long does it take for the vampire who can destroy anything to choose a different powerset? Does time ever start again? How many Godzillas are there in Touhou?

Granted, there are characters who are out of the bug-girl's weight class, but as you said, it's all about the cleverness in implementation of the power. If there's any discernible weakness at all, a clever and versatile power can go a long way.

One demon (well, close enough to a demon), specifically. Limits on it were never explained, but given that she can keep a whole country hidden, implied to be stupidly powerful.

Choose different powers? Not following.

Yes. Generally people find their selves surrounded by many knives though when time unfreezes.

Godzillas? None. Mostly little girls in hats shooting lasers at each other. Lots of lasers.

The main thing was that she wasn't very clever. She was a first stage enemy that got mad at people for not being interested in watching fireflies.

In the one time she appears, she uses this power to reflect the said knives at the maid after turning them to sand and reforming them, causes indestructible blades to rise from the ground around her opponents, delegate a god to do the fighting for her while she thinks, become immune to harm, cast a Daylight spell, cut light in half, and mentioned that while fighting some of the heavyweights of the verse, she could win each fight another 39.9 million times, since she only needs to use a couple of her powers each fight. Not to mention she's absolutely immortal as long as she doesn't leave the moon very long.

Also, I'm not too familiar with Worm, so I have to wonder if Skitter ever deals with something too strong, too artificial or too on fire for her insects to hurt in-story.

She does. All the time. Notably, Aegis, Dragon, Mannequin, Weld, Glory Girl, Lung (mostly), Oni Lee, Night, Fog, Hookwolf, Cricket, Spitfire, Newter, Gregor the Snail, Sundancer, Genesis, Echidna (in a really bad way), Bonesaw (and as a result Jack Slash, too), Crawler, The Siberian, Mannequin (worth repeating), Burnscar, Hachet Face, Gray Boy, King, Crimson, Winter, Nice Guy, The Number Man and Contessa (but they literally automatically win), Butcher, Nilbog, Bambina, August Prince, The Glastig Ulaine, Eidolon, Alexandria (well...), and Scion.

Also noteworthy is that Skitter ends up beating most of these people anyway. Which reminds me...

Though since the Beat titan makes a referance to being in the neck, we can coclude that he may be a shifter, even if we don't know who.

Or alternatively, that his awareness is strong enough that he realizes that he's a brain in an organic mecha.

That's
1) full of spoilers
2) tells absolutely nothing to people who haven't read Worm.

It'd have been better to give an example of a single powerful enemy Taylor faces. Like Lung. He's a bit like Hulk, except with strong but slow regeneration even in human form, and as he gets angry his body becomes less like a human and more like an enormous metal-covered fire-breathing and -controlling dragon. "Too strong, too artificial or too on fire for her insects to hurt" - yup.

Yep! And as bonus points, he's a playable character and the most mentally unstable and monstrous out of an entire cast of unstable and monstrous people!

I'd actually say that Krieg is one of the least monstrous, at least from a moral standpoint. Pre-experimentation, he'd probably be the sanest as well.
That said, it's pretty bad when the insane killer barbarian, with only the remnants of his old personality keeping him pointed at the bad guys is one of the least terrible people in the party.

Hmmmm.....I might have to say Zero for this one. Most of the other people at least have some minor motive for what they do and why. By all appearances, Zero doesn't have any. And to boot for monstrosity, the two main possibilities as to his identity are that he's literally nonhuman (specifically, he'd eridian), or he's a prototype lance assassin (in which case he's also a defector, in addition to being similar to kreig's homicidal conditioning without the benefit of his old voice holding him back.)

Based on the general shape of the Eridian guardians, he is likely not Eridian, as the guardians have a full five fingers, while Zero has four. Plus, while the eridians may have built their guardians the with the same similarity that humans built claptraps, Zer0's sword looks nothing like any other Eridian tech, as it has clear segmentation and bolts. The Lance Assassin theory might make some sense, though he would be the only male assassin, and the only one with a sword containing metal in the blade.

Plus, they all have an objective, as put by Markus: Guns, Money, Women, and Guns.

http://i.imgur.com/1MpqzVj.jpg

New feats for the challenge:

Beautiful Attack [Combat]

Prerequisite: Charisma 15 or higher

Your beauty distracts foes, leaving them vulnerable to attack.

Benefit
When wearing neither heavy armor nor other garments which significantly conceal your beauty (DMs discretion), and attacking a creature which is currently observing your presence and isn't immune to mind-affecting effects, for the purposes of that attack, the target creature's Armor Class is reduced by an amount equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 0). This penalty cannot reduce the target's AC below its Flat-Footed AC. If, after applying this penalty, the target's AC is equal to or lower than its Flat-Footed AC, the creature is flat-footed against your attack.

Improved Beautiful Attack [Combat]

Prerequisites: Beautiful Attack, Charisma 17 or higher, Base Attack Bonus +1 or greater

Even mindless creatures cannot deny your beauty

Benefit
Your Beautiful Attack feat functions against creatures which are immune to mind-affecting effects.

Normal
Your Beautiful Attack feat does not normally function against creatures which are immune to mind-affecting effects.

Honest Question (since 1/2 of the posts here are non-content either way): Serious or joking?

That's actually serious. While I don't know all the details, here's the gist of it from my recollection: Because of whatever license Rich uses, he very protective adamant about using his material in other works (and by extension, so are other mods). So while you're on this forum, using OOTS fanart is fine, but actually taking the pictures from the comic and using them isn't.

Honest Question (since 1/2 of the posts here are non-content either way): Serious or joking?

From the Rules of Posting:

Copyrighted Material and OotS Images
Using copyrighted artwork as an avatar is technically illegal unless you have the permission of the copyright holder. Even if the art is modified in some way, the original copyright still stands and you can't use it as an avatar. Rich Burlew has specifically requested that people DO NOT use his OOTS art as avatar image, other than those he has specifically provided as the default message board avatars. Also, please do not take, alter, or use the provided avatar images, comic images, or other pieces of Rich's art without express consent. If you want an OOTS-style avatar, there are many burgeoning avatar artists hanging around the Arts and Crafts forum who might make one for you.

Emphasis mine.

While most of that pertains to OOTS with regards to avatars, it does state that the comics are off limits for reposting, altering, etc. Best to avoid the wrath of the Mods.

...Why would I be averting my eyes?
In the interest of historical accuracy I should point out that the Greek historian Polybius wrote the following of the Gauls who fought naked:
"Very terrifying too were the appearance and the gestures of the naked warriors in front, all in the prime of life, and finely built men, and all in the leading companies richly adorned with gold torques and armlets."* (http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Polybius/2*.html#29.5)

They would still have shields (http://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1390/46/1390463593508.jpg) and wikipedia describes both the fear caused, and the results when the battle started as:
"The appearance of these well-built naked warriors, and the noise of their trumpets and war-cries, intimidated the Romans, but their small shields offered little protection against Roman javelins, and the Gaesatae were driven back and their allies slaughtered." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaesatae)

So, it din't work out too well in this battle.

She blew up a meteor nonchalantly, but only because "Without intervention, not only the Scarlet Devil Mansion but the surrounding area would have suffered enormous damage." (Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, pages 52-53), and then again Akyuu lists her as extremely high threat level, and that if confronted by her, you should just try and escape instead of negotiate. She then goes on to say that the claim is based only on her power and that eyewitnesses have described her as terrifying, not on any known personality or innate evilness. (Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, pages 80-81). She is apparently in Forbidden Scrollery chapters 2 and 7, but I haven't read it yet, so I don't know if those provide evidence to Flandre's status as Evil or not.

Both for the book joke and the average amount of motivators we seem to have per page, given the amount of tangents :smalltongue::smallwink:

I could say the same thing; to my memory she only asks "what exactly is" once, all her other such lines are just "what is" ("What is a 'pissing-off person?'").

...And now I want to make a poster of Nia telling Kittan that what was supposed to be her interrogation was "very informative," but I can't find a screencap of it. So here's more Girls und Panzer instead:

Sorry for the last one. I could only find "the only way IN" :smallannoyed:

I'm sorry to butt in, but your choice of fonts makes it really hard to actually read these. The lines are longer than the images, and the font is kinda small, AND the fonts aren't very clear.
