Personally, while I have taken some important lessons in overall game design from the polarizing Frank Trollman, I've never really subscribed to what seems to be his school of thought regarding the design of D&D classes. "Tome" classes, like this (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Barbarian,_Tome_%283.5e_Class%29), this (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Ninja,_Tome_%283.5e_Class%29), or this (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Witch_%283.5e_Class%29) are basically simple, powerful, cynical, and sarcastic. Are those the basic guidelines accepted by what I'm going to define as the "Tome Community?" Does the Tome Community still exist? I've been around a while now, and there were a few years there where the Tome Community was a huge, cynical, disparaging part of the homebrewing community, where no creation was safe, especially if it dared to dream or pursue lofty, complex goals. Are there any overarching design goals for a "Tome class?" What do people think about "Tome design?"
