View Full Version : Mythic huge monk

So, here's the situation, I'm creating a new campaign, based off of Pathfinder rules referenced with D20pfsrd, with the occasional mythic boss fight (the only time mythic powers pop up is in these battles)

One of the final level 20 bosses has the leadership ability, and a level 18 monk cohort. As I'm creating the monk I noticed two separate abilities, one is a mythic path for the champion: Titan's Rage- a third tier ability that increases his size to Large for 9 rounds (based off of his tier level); and the other is a mythic feat: Titan Strike- which makes your unarmed strike do damage as if you were one size category larger.

My problem is that when this monk bursts into flame, doubles in size, and charges the party, I have no idea what to roll for damage, the closest I have is that a large level 18 monk deals 3d8 points per strike. I haven't found anywhere a table for how much a huge sized weapon would do, let alone a monk's weapon damage at that size, does anyone know the process to figure it out?

Assuming the same size scaling as 3.5 uses, 3d8 should go to 4d8 (and then 6d8 if you find another increase somewhere).

Whenever I build a custom monster, I use the math found here:
http://blogofholding.com/?p=512

Basing monster damage off PC damage is a very slippery slope that I try to avoid. So using scaling damage off of size makes sense, but I wouldn't try to go over an average of 35 damage dealt by any but the strongest of his attacks.

So maybe something like 6d8 + 8 damage for his usual recharge attack?

(28 is the average for a Level 20 monster, but since this guy is probably elite or solo I boosted it by another 25%.)

Do you know where I could find a table of the scale?

He is elite, and I'll keep that in mind, but I'd also like to know in case one of my members does something similar, or gets even bigger (like with an Enlarge Person spell, assuming I let the size increases stack, I'm not sure if they can)

Oh, dude! My mistake! I sent you this while the thread was still under the 4e links.

The math I sent you is from 4th edition. So don't use it! I'm sure there's tons of other Pathfinder resources out there to help. Unfortunately, I know none of them besides the SRD...

There are two size progressions. One with d6 and one with d8

1d2->1d3->1d4->1d6->1d8->2d6->3d6->4d6->6d6->8d6->12d6->16d6->24d6->32d6->48d6 .....

1d10->2d8->3d8->4d8->6d8->8d8->12d8->16d8->24d8 ....
(2d10->4d8)

it's quite easy. Every two size increases the amount it increases doubles.

Hope that helped

Do you know where I could find a table of the scale?

Monster Manual p. 304, under "Improved Natural Attack".

There's also a slightly more robust table in the Rules Compendium p. 152.
