"My amour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!"

The Mythic Dragon

The Dragon; Fear, Awe, Majesty. All these words describe Dragons, born of a god beyond even others, few can match the power they wield.
Even the young of Dragons can match seasoned adventurers, and the most powerful, can challenge even the gods themselves.
They wield Magic with such grace that Archmages tremble in jealousy, and Clerics beg their gods for the dexterity of the beasts.
Seldom has a creature walked beside a Dragon, which could match it's size and mighty brawn. For they stand tall against the mountains, roar louder than a howling wind, consume lakes to quench but a meager thirst and flatten villages with a single, well aimed, swish of tail.
Yet consider not the dragon but a lowly steed of simple wiles. For tucked inside his steel strength skull, lies the wisdom of the ages. At a moments notice can the Dragon recall any finer detail of a life stretched far beyond that of the humble man, and then apply it with deft and deadly accuracy. The Dragon is a cunning, conniving and oh so clever creature, and all would be well warned to never pit him in a game of wits, for none but the Dragon should ever came out on top of such a duel.
Lest not you draw the Dragon's ire, for his wrath is like an inferno, it will consume all before it, leaving nothing but death and destruction.
For the Dragon is Death, and hell follows, lest it be noticed.

New Feat: Born of the Inferno
Prerequisite: True Dragon, At least Juvenile age. An ECL of at least 10.
Benefit: You gain access to the following Prestige Class, and gain one bonus Mythos of any level you have access to.

The Dragon's Mythos
At each level of this class, except for 10th level, at which they gain 2, The Mythic Dragon gains A Mythos from the list below. They calculate the save in the same way that they calculate their breath weapon save DC. They are always (Ex) in nature, unless specified otherwise.

A Mythic Dragon also has the ability to learn more Mythos, above the ones automatically allotted to him by leveling up - by Gathering Treasure.
For every thousand gp in the Dragon's hoard, it gains A thousand Mythos points. They amount of Gp in the hoard may not be increased by anything other than stolen, or taken by force. If they remove part of their hoard, and replace it, they do not gain anymore Mythos points. It must be in gold pieces they have never had before. This may also be used in place of other classes' Mythos point gaining method that the Mythic Dragon has access to.

By spending 1,000 Mythos Points, and 250xp, he may learn an Exceptional Mythos. A Fantastic Mythos requires 5,000 Mythos Points and 500xp. A Legendary Mythos takes 10,000 Mythos Points, and 1,000xp. And an Exalted Mythos takes 20,000 Mythos Points and 2,000xp.

Exceptional Mythos

Breath of Destruction
"The roaring inferno, a bone rattling tundra, the bubbling typhoon of acid, the cloying miasma of choking gas, or the ice cold wind. The fluff is a bit sparse (Doesn't really have any connection with the other Mythos classes or cosmology), the abilities are a bit narrow, and it kind of steps on the Mythic Kobold. You're packing too many Mythos abilities into a single Mythos, which leads into the second problem being that it's a Mythos prestige class that gains a Mythos every level and then gets 2 extra at level 10, which die to the spacing of it means you never have to buy a Mythos outside of the one exalted Mythos (Which, lets be honest you only need two).

On the subject of narrow Mythos', the fluff you write speaks of dragons stomping things and scorching things, which is represented in the mythos', but then goes on to describe how super intelligent Dragons are, how they wield great arcane might, and how they can recall thoughts easily. Yet this is not reflected in the Mythos' themselves, you should implement some extra supplementary Mythos' not dedicated to shooting things with your breathe or bouncing things off your scales. Considering a dragons "vast pool of knowledge" a Mythos based around the Dragon seeing a Spell being cast, passing a Spellcraft check to remember it properly, and then shooting it back would be good, with a limit of one "Spell Stolen" for HD/Rounds. Advanced Manifestation can be no limit on number of Spells stolen, and another could be stealing it midcast to counterspell it with an opposed Spellcraft check. Or something. I dunno. I feel like it needs a bit of expansion in the flexibility department. Could also use some Excellencies.

Lastly, Good Reflex save but bad Fort and Will? I didn't know Dragons were weak minded creatures with bad immune systems and twitchy reflexes.

True on that account, I wasn't sure how to include the others, but It will tie in with the Akastarepti.
Or perhaps the Mythic Kobold steps on the Dragon's toes? :smallwink:

That was actually the plan with it, to be a self contained Mythos class, but I can understand the point made. I suppose I could break them into more, Any suggestions?

I knew I forgot something, I should have included a Mythos based on casting. Damnit, I'll fix that immediately.

I've never fully understood Advanced and Baisc Manifestations, as I've not understood exactly what qualifies as 'advanced/basic'. To me it's One Mythos with the array of bonuses.
I will use the Spellpool, I like that. The Spell Switching is very cool, I'll be stealing that as well.

Excellencies; I'm not sure what the balance of power here is, in addition to the Advanced/basic, it's not something I've quite got yet. They seem roughly 50% weaker than a Mythos, but I'm not sure on that.
I also didn't include them as it's a PrC, Not a Full Mythos class.

Damn it, Another thing I missed.

All in all, Thanks for the Peaching!

i've never really mae homebrew myself, so i might be missing something, but isn't Glorious Destructive Shimmering Body crazy OP? i mean, that 99% miss chance means that even if you are 20 levels higher than the dragon, you will still miss 99% of the time. thats insane, especially when you consider this would probably be used for NPC boss dragons more than PCs.

In..retrospect, it kind of is. But at that point, you start hitting with auto-hit things. Maybe it should be 80%..

Could you be more specific when you say that the breath weapons lingers? Does it deal reduced damage? Is there a save involved when within the area?

Some of these numbers are kinda... ridiculous. As commander panda mentioned, the 99% miss chance, quadrupling of breath weapon damage (how exactly? dice? final rolled damage) and as a free action. Why is Mind Shattering Voice not classified as a mind-affecting ability? Functionally speaking, that's exactly what it is... I'm confused. :smallconfused:

Lingers, I'll clear that up. I read a lot of 3rd party books, and lingering is an effect I know a little too well.

They're meant to be, this is a Mythic DRAGON, after all.
The Miss chance is fixed, Quadrupled is also explained.
Mind Shattering Voice is not classified as such, because it's not a mind affecting ability, it's literally the Dragon's silver tongue. It's not affecting the mind beyond normal speech, Just as Diplomacy isn't, or normal speaking isn't.

But... there's a limit to how far you can reasonably take that. There's the dragon that is poses a challenge to the veteran adventurers greater than any they have ever faced (or will face for some time), and then there's the dragon that makes the players throw up their hands in frustration and say "Screw this, I'm going home". I don't know of many people interested in dealing with the latter.

However, I'm not seeing any suggestions beyond Tychris's...

Yeah, I don't care how dragon you are; 99% miss chance (with an extreme deflection bonus on top, just to screw over the mundanes who roll a 100 on the d% anyway) is bad design. It's saying "Be a caster, or you are not allowed to participate in this combat." You can get up to that on a CR 15 Young dragon just in core.

EDIT: Okay, so it's fixed-ish.

Resounding Mystical Energy...Dragons are going to have high Spellcraft just by virtue of inflated Hit Dice, so this says "Be an divine caster or you are not allowed to participate in this combat. No, I don't care that it's SR: No, because my ability is sloppily worded like that. Also I might have divine spells too, because Imma dragon, and if I do, clerics are not allowed to participate in this combat either."

Honestly, it looks like the only reliable way to take on a high-level Mythos Dragon is with a Tome of Magic class, with spells away from the Wizard list that the dragon has decided are not worth being immune to, or by RP. This is just not good design. Entirely rework these abilities so that they don't hard-counter almost the entire Player's Handbook.

Hrm, small annotation added to Arcanic Mind.

But in all truth, I would VASTLY prefer 'Here, this is what I would do in place of x' instead of 'Lolz broknz fix.'

Yes, you're right. Constructive feedback > complaining and harping about something. I'm just not on the ball, here...

Not really sure what to do about the concepts, but perchance I'll come back to this later (after the sleep deprivation kicks in) and throw a bucket of Sturgeon's Law-compliant ideas at the wall.

It seems to me you did the feat requirement backwards. Usually the class requires the feat, no? Plus, it's an otherwise useless feat. Other PRCs that have feat perquisites require feats that generally do something mechanically (and add flavor to the way they fight or cast spells or whatever).

Tychris1

Alright, *Cracks fingers* lets get to work. I agree with everyone elses sentiment that this class is horribley broken, and pretty much needs to be worked over immedieately. I like the sentiment, I like Dragons, and as a result I like what you're trying to do. So here's me helping.

Exceptional Mythos': Exceptional Mythos' are generally of a lower standard and can do one cool thing that blends in with the rest of the class, sometimes acting as a stepping stone for further Mythos' and can even be prerequisites. So far you have a Mythos about breath attacks, one about the sheer intimidating factor of dragons, one about a Dragons ability to charm, and one about the Dragon casting spells. Lets work on this for a case by case basis. As a start, they could all use a bit of a fluffy preface, to get the point apart and make it a bit more enjoyable all the while.

Breath of Destruction:"The roaring inferno, a bone rattling tundra, the bubbling typhoon of acid, or the cloying miasma of choking gas. There is no death swifter or more painful then the breathe of a Dragon. For creatures who are so adept at protecting and expanding their long lives, they are remarkably well adept at snuffing it out." Making a breathe weapon (Ex) instead of (Su) is a good start, but ironically this is one of the weaker Mythos' available and doesn't do a whole lot except act as a Prerequisite. All it does is let you breathe in an Antimagic field, which is hardly befitting a Mythos called Breathe of Destruction. Here's what I think you could do:

Add a kind of scaling for your breathe attacks, I recommend gaining an extra d6 of damage for every 3/HD.
Alright, so now we have a damage boost and the ability to shoot it off in an Antimagic field, this is a good chassis for a Mythos, so lets slap on some Advaced manifestations to make it a bit more varied and interesting (Since I recommend depowering the later Mythos')
The first Advanced manifestation could be something akin to "World Shattering Throat Propulsion" in which your Breathe attacks will always deal average or better damage to Buildings or Constructs even if you roll lower then your average it will bump up it up, and if you rolled higher then the average it stays the same, representing a Dragon rending down buildings which dare challenge its claim to immortality.
Another Advanced Manifestation could be "Atmosphere Devouring Escape Mechanism", a Manifestation that increases the range and width of your Breathe attack by 1/4 for every 4 HD you have, and gives you the ability to do a special breathe attack. Instead of a cone or line, you shoot at your feet and make your breathe attack a burst that effects everyone within 5 feet per 2 HD, usable one per hour as you try to refill your lungs and recuperate your muscles.
The last, and personally most fluffy/favorite Advanced Manifestation you could do would be "Cold-Blooded Temperament Rampage" which allows you to do your breathe attack as part of a Charge action, but causes the cooldown for your Breathe Attack to increase by 2 rounds (Minimum 2 rounds, no way around it) as the rampaging frame of the Dragon tries to rebalance himself and compensate for his recoil.

I will continue this list when I get back onto the computer later, as I'm currently pressed for time, but I intend on running down each and every Mythos, and then putting in my 2 cents along the way. Expect this post to get substantially longer by the end of the day, probably by midnight though. I'll also try and tackle excellencies when I get back, as they're a pretty important part of Mythos classes.

Also, I'd shortly ask that you consider expanding this into a full blown Mythos class. As is, it stands semi awkwardly as a Feat unlocked Mythos prestige class, because Dragons aren't a +0 LA race like Humans, Kobolds, Halflings or Elves. And there are quite a few ways to expand upon Dragons. Food for thought.

*Becomes slightly annoyed at 'horribly broken'...It's not that bad, it's just not fluffed out like Mythic Human.

Anywho, thanks for the help! Yeah, This is looking more and more like a full Mythos class, I'm thinking it could be one of those more awkward ones, and be 15 levels instead of ten.

Alright, lets get to it. *Sharpens claws. Accidentially pokes keys off keyboard*

I've never been very good at adding floof to powers, But that works very nicely, I'll use it if you don't mind.
I'll use it, based on your ideas/thoughts/suggestions, what do you think of the new Breath of Destruction?

Breath of Destruction
"The roaring inferno, a bone rattling tundra, the bubbling typhoon of acid, the cloying miasma of choking gas, or the ice cold wind. There is no death swifter or more painful then the breathe of a Dragon. For creatures who are so adept at protecting and expanding their long lives, they are remarkably well adept at snuffing it out."
Prerequisite: Breath Weapon useable once every 1d4 rounds.
Benefit: In place of your natural magic fueled breath, your body burns with newfound energy, Natural energy. As a result, your breath weapon is extraordinary in nature. In addition, Your body has less of a focus on containing your powerful weapon, and it increases in strength, It deals an additional dice of damage for every 4 Mythic Dragon class level you possess.

Advanced:
Monument breaking Energy blast:
Mortals build monuments to beings, to gods. The Monster may tear them down, and eventually, they rebuild, better than before. When you tear them down, They remain broken, for who would challenge a Living god?
Your breath weapon automatically deals average damage to constructs and buildings, If you manage to roll higher than average, it remains the same.

Devouring Tide of Destruction:
Your Power is endless, your Might, undeniable. The sheer Untamed Devesation that resides within your lungs proves witness to the fact. Your Breath weapon range increases by 10ft/2 HD, and in addition, you gain a special method of blasting;
Instead of firing your normal breath weapon, you may choose to exhale a burst of energy at the ground, blowing everything around you to bits. It has a radius of 10ft/2HD, and Once used, you must rest for 4 Hours before attempting this feat of energy again.

Look better?

Edit:
I think i'll actually make it a 15 level class, as I need to include more Mythos.

So far, The focus of the class is;

Scales, Might, Breath, Tongue, and Mind.
Those will be the key focus of the Mythos, any other suggestions?

Ugh...... Ok. When I said that an Advanced manifestation is an expansion on the basic premise of a Mythos, I didn't mean introduce a manifestation that makes you invulnerable.

Pretty much the only way I can see of handling this Dragon is to literally blast its stats until it has flat 1's for every stat, and then drop a rock on it, and permanently keep debuffing it, or zapping it with Negative levels until it loses immortality and dies. Which is solved by becoming Undead, making an Olethrofex Mythic Kobold Mythic Dragon an amazing build.

I'll........ I'll get back to this in a bit and try to PEACH. Too tired right now.

Can't really do much of a critique, but I do have one comment to make.

No love for the Fang Dragon on the breath weapon mythos'?
