LA question

So, I have a Lizardfolk ranger.
Their ECL is +3
Rest of the party is human, their ECL IS +0
They are level eight, all of them.
What level is my Lizardfolk?

ECL = Racial Hit Dice + Level Adjustment + Class Hit Dice

A Lizardfolk has 2RHD and +1LA so they start with ECL 3
A Lizardfolk Ranger 8 has 2RHD, +1LA and 8 Class Hit Dice. So they have an ECL of 2+1+8=11

Or did you mean you are all ECL 8 (aka balanced power)
A Lizardfolk Ranger 5 has 2RHD, +1LA and 5 Class Hit Dice. So they have an ECL of 2+1+5=8

You seem to be confusing ECL with LA.

ECL is "Effective Character Level". It is equal to the sum of the number of Racial Hit Dice, Class Levels, and Level Adjustment a creature has.

LA is "Level Adjustment". It represents that some races are inherently more powerful than others.

Generally you will want to have your whole party playing at hte same ECL (at least to start). So if your partymates have LA +0 and are 8th level characters, they have an ECL of 8. You have an LA of +3, so to make an ECL of 8, you have 5 class levels/Racial Hit Dice.
