Hey, so it looks like decent gish material (aside from the monstrous +4 LA) and explicitly stack with sorcerer casting, so you can just tag a level and try to PrC out, but how good would they be?

8RHD, +4LA, Casts as a 6th level Sorcerer.

Yeah ECL 12 for Sorcerer 6? So worth it!

I am curious how to make them unterrible while looking awesome at the time.

Have you ever had an interesting monster that WotC nerfed the ECL to unreasonable heights?

I have never played an Arcaniss, so I was not sure how ugly that +4 is here. The Sharn's +5 is rather reasonable.

It has 8HD, is spec'd as a Sorcerer and only casts as a 6th level Sorcerer. So that is 2 levels behind.

It has +4 LA so that is a total of 6 levels behind.

In exchange you get:
+2 cl for some spells
Heal a tiny amount when casting some spells

That wouldn't even justify being 1 level behind.

Yeah, the Sharn casts at a higher level, and more to the point has some crazy stacking language and ignores components and other stupid things IIRC. This is just a monster with casting, and if that's what you're after there are much more sensibly LA-d options. Wyrmling Steel Dragons and the Gloura are nice.

I like trying out a variety of monster races, some just because of Rule of Cool. Arcaniss is a bit trickier to try to avoid not being terrible, so I was seeing if there were any tricks to help.
