View Full Version : Any Base Melee Classes that use Heavy Armor & Charisma?

I'm trying to work out some fluff for my first Homebrew Class, Guardian (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16866245#post16866245). It's a Tank class that specializes in utilizing the Bluff, Intimidate, and Concentration skills in battle, so its important stats are STR, CON, and CHA. What I was wondering was if there are any base classes that would be able to slide into this Prestige Class with great ease?

Also, while you are over there, do you think you could give it a onceover and leave a review? (Mods, please tell me if I am doing something wrong here.)

Perhaps the Hexblade or Crusader.

Hexblade won't work, because Guardians tend to use heavy armor and shields, while Hexblades don't use shields and use light armor.

Knight and Crusader are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Crusader, Knight, CW Samurai (but not OA Samurai) and Paladin do by RAW.

Hexblades with the unofficial fix (http://irongamersguild.wikidot.com/forum/t-248314/unofficial-fix-for-hexblades-from-an-official-source) can go up to medium armor without impacting their casting, which means that they're a two feat tax (or a dip in a class with heavy armor prof and one feat tax, or just a mythril set of fullplate away, although technically mythril full plate is medium armor) from being able to cast in heavy armor. The fix doesn't give Hexblades shield proficiency but lets them cast using them, so it's safe to call that an oversight and give them the prof if you're using the fix.

Knight, Crusader, clerics occasionally have high charisma (feat for tower shield), Paladin, Marshall (feat for tower shield), Soulborn (uses con for main magic stat)

Paladin 2/Mashal 2/Crusader 1 could be ideal

A Binder/Fighter would work. Bind Naberius (a level 1 vestige) and you could take 10 on the bluff check to enrage enemies which might be handy.

Paladin, Knight, Crusader all fit. The knight and crusader both have support for sword and board through class features.

Soulborn.

I didn't think about knight before, but their Shield Ally ability really fits both the Guardian's role and the fluff.

If you make test of mettle scale with level it becomes a decent ability.

Thanks for the fantastic suggestions.

Anyone with other comments, please leave them on the Guardian's Homebrew page.

Test of Mettle is so much better than goad though.

Anchor Howl leaves those in the dust.

Anchor Howl leaves those in the dust.

Test of Mettle may be better against groups of enemies as it can target more than one person. It also comes in at a level 4 and is able to be used multiple times per day. Having both would be quite strong though.

If you want to have a look at another homebrew that might cater to your needs, you can check out mine.
