Hey all, I know that it would be easier to use Flash or Photoshop or even just draw free hand, but I went mad and decided to draw a picture with Paint of all programmes... I've only done the skeleton and basic shape, but it will eventually be 'The King of the North' from a book I'm starting... Dont be concerned by the pose, hes sitting down... so im just wondering... will this work? Or should I give up? cheers...

Bear in mind this is only stage 1 and it will get more work...

no offense...but I think if you want to do a rough muscle outline or wire frame type start, pen and paper/3d programs (maya) are better.

I've been mad enough to use Paint for some years as my computer drawing tool. Now I'm taking time and studying GIMP. But I won't say it's bad.

You just have to think of it as different from vector programs and other real graphic programs. You must invest quite a deal of time to Paint if you want to use it effectivily and still it looses to other programs. Unless you take an artists aproach.

It's better if used in expressionistic, impressionistic or other more modern way. Or to make old style compgraf. It's bad choice if you aim for realism (even if it just the best realism that you can do). OotS style with Paint is quite difficult with pixels cause you can't use all your time to put greytones around black circles to make them round in 117*117 picture.

But: Paint does have some features that make it very good: lack of layers and limited undos can be good think when you think it that way. They give you some feeling of permanency. You're really looking at your work.. at the stage it's in.

But #2 Best part of Paint: By using Paint you must use your imagination (exspecially if you want to do something what seems impossible in Paint). Using your imagination boosts it... that is good even if your not making art or not drawing at all.

IMO for what your doing I wouldn't recomend paint but then again.. I've even done lots of high detailed floor plans.. also ones with pipes and electricity wires (for RPG use).

PS I'm not at home at moment but when I get there I can upload some Paintstuff I've made here
PPS I'm prepared to be burned alive for using paint and speking behalf it
PPPS my apologies (from another thread):
&quote: I haven't had time to learn any vector graphic programs.. ages ago (back in 97 when a lived in home) I used to use coreldraw. After that I spent six years without a computer (and without drawing with one).

From end of 2002 I've had computers of my own. (yes computers - I tend to get old ones of my friends). But any time I have wanted or have had to draw something I've calculated times: doing it with paint against learning better program. SO I'm stick with paint and nowdays very fast with it + quite good of doing almost unimaginable things with it./quote

&quote: I can't get myself not to say that somehow I prefer pixel grafic to vector grafic.. when I did vector pictures ages ago I always had feeling that I was designing or engineering that picture... not drawing or being artistic...
Well you can call me mad:smallwink: /quote

Now I re-read that and.. I didn't mean to brag

Okey, here is some paint works of mine. They're drawn in windows paint from beginning to end. All I've now done to them is to convert them to GIFs (some are in jpg format). I'll put bigger ones under spoilers.

this is portrait.. hopefully not selfportrait

this was named a record cover
I did it with a friend. we were constantly fighting over mouse control and yelling: "don't kill that part.. please"

Following picture are done for gaming purposes. First there is company logo and some subcompanies for my Cpunk rpg and rest are examples of hexegons I did for my strategy game (now after well over 100 ready pieces I've desided that they'll be painted without computer)
... and I can tell that there is nothing more stupid to do than draw hexagons with prorgram witch can turn selections only 90 degrees.

These last ones I really did like. Idea was to make cave paintings to rock wall by firstly drawing wall and then looking for figures to draw out of picture. They're also kind of stick figures.. I've done this mainly in real cave painting style but used also symbols from later mythologies.

I didn't do many cause they were quite time consuming.. and I didn't find my favorite one yet :smallfrown: I hope it's not lost.

First is here. Other two are under spoilers.

Three upper figures are different version of storm/sky god/goddes. Under them there is shaman lying on metaphorical journey and couple of spirit figures. Lowest three pictures are boat, moon and sun... they are upside down.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/Srednak/BMP21.gifThis is called Yogi because it sits in lotus position. White spots are stars from Orion-constilation.. not all them though.

Third one isn't finnished:
